Minor edits
[edit]Please remember to mark your edits as minor when (and only when) they genuinely are minor edits (see Wikipedia:Minor edit). Marking a major change as a minor one (and vice versa) is considered poor etiquette. The rule of thumb is that only an edit that consists solely of spelling corrections, formatting changes, or rearranging of text without modifying content should be flagged as a 'minor edit.' Thank you. --EEMIV (talk) 04:42, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry. It's become a bit of a habit. I'll not do that anymore. Way before I edit anything more on Wikipedia and Uncyclopedia I'll be sure to finish reading all necessary material about the online communities I have joined.--Padawan Animator 23:34, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
Your note
[edit]Hey, thanks for being so vigilant in cleaning up the Westchester Academy for International Studies article! You think it should be semiprotected so only signed in users can edit it?
About Kai kun saying "yeah you should" on his/her talk page, I think that was in reference to me saying I hadn't bothered to get a mySpace page, in a conversation that was removed (I noticed you said "huh?").
Anyway, thanks again! Smack your immature classmates with a dead fish for me. Peace, delldot talk 18:30, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, no problem. And yes, I do think it ought to be semiprotected. I also think that users who vandalize even once should be banned on sight. I've become irritated by constantly seeing messages that say "If you do that again you will be banned." One time I even noticed one user talk page that had much more than one message that said "This is your last warning." For Pete's sake! Just delete the user! UPDATED THOUGHT: Or maybe they were already banned after those messages, and then after the ban expired the vandalizing continued, and warning messages continued, and they were banned again numerous times.
- I'm on a quest to become an administrator, so I'm sure this recent history will look good once I finally suggest to receive this promotion.---- Padawan Animator (talk) 18:49, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Please do not attack other editors, which you did here: User talk:Delldot. If you continue, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Hammer1980·talk 23:18, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
- I regret that I attacked the user. These immature students from school have been bothering me on Wikipedia, and it's been very annoying.--Padawan Animator (talk) 23:53, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
Patrol
[edit]I am an active member of the anti-vandal unit. I patrol recent changes. Hammer1980·talk 23:54, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
- How might I become a part of that?--Padawan Animator (talk) 00:09, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
Wikipedia is not a mirror or a repository of links. There's simply no need to add all of those links, when one can easily reach the pages through the school's official website. — BrotherFlounder 01:32, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
- No problem, and happy editing! — BrotherFlounder 01:34, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
Your note
[edit]I don't think I deleted any material of yours, what are you referring to? It might have been someone else.
Sorry you're getting frustrated. You get used to vandalism after a while and it just washes right over you. We're pretty efficient at dealing with vandalism, but it is an annoyance and a drain. My recommendation is if it's worrying you too much, to take a break from vandal fighting and work on something else. Hit random article a few times and tidy up whatever you come across, or try categorizing articles that don't have categories. I have scads of other suggestions if you don't like those. Vandals are trying to piss you off, you're letting them win if it works.
We don't have to trust Kai kun: if they vandalize again, they'll be blocked, they know this. They've apologized and agreed to stop. I'll kind of keep an eye on their contributions, but I really don't think they're going to be a problem any more. Most vandals really aren't that malicious, they're just kids being dumb.
That's cool that you want to be an admin so you can help out more. Becoming an admin is a lot of work, as you may know. Almost no one is promoted without at least a few thousand edits, several months on the project, etc. But definitely keep up the good work and you'll get there eventually. delldot talk 04:20, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
- I was referring to a vandal fighting message I left on user talk 67.28.112.251. I even checked the history of the page, and it's not there.
- Anyways, I really do admire and appreciate your ideas. Thank you very much.
- What you said about slapping them with a dead fish gave me an idea. I want to create one of those banners that you see all over Wikipedia, except that this one will say "You have been slapped with a dead fish by Padawan Animator," and its icon ought to consist of a simple fish graphic with an X in place of the eye on the side.--Padawan Animator (talk) 05:10, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
- I think you're mistaken about the note, I looked in the history and according to it you never posted to the page. Also, the page has no logs, so it hasn't been deleted or anything. Could it be another page?
- Ha ha! The dead fish banner sounds funny, but I think you probably shouldn't do it as it might be taken the wrong way. You're generally discouraged from engaging with vandals except to leave them warning notices, per WP:DITV and WP:RBI: they basically just say "ignore them, they're just trying to get attention". Plus I think others may interpret your banner as getting engaged in a fight with vandals, which is definitely discouraged. You might also find that showing the vandals you're frustrated with them or engaged with them provides them more incentive to escalate the conflict. Like "now it's personal", they're getting that attention, you know? Anyway, it's up to you what you do, but I suspect other Wikipedians might be annoyed at you for doing it (and at me for suggesting it! ;) ).
- Anyways, take care, keep in touch. Peace, delldot talk 17:25, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
- Agreed.--Padawan Animator (talk) 02:32, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
Info
[edit]Hey, you probably noticed it since you edited it, but someone recently posted your real life first name (or so they claimed) on my talk page. I've removed it, but it's still in the history. What do you want done with this info: Leave it like it is, in the history? Delete it so that only administrators can see it if they look at the deleted version? Or have wikipedia remove it so that not even admins can see it? (this third option would be somewhat more difficult, since I'd have to email them and so on, but I'm willing to if that's what you want to do). Peace, delldot talk 14:36, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
- I really don't even necessarily care, because I just don't really see what harm it could do. They're just doing their best to be irksome.
- That was truly annoying.
- Do you think it could cause something terrible?
- Also, I have recenly had an idea for a general rule for Wikipedia. I just don't like the idea of discussions moving around all over the place. If a message is posted on one talk page it would be nice if responses were posted on the same page as well.
- Why aren't I able to edit the WAIS entry? I've been a contributor all this time (except for when I accidentally attacked a vandal). UPDATE: Oh. Nevermind.
- And do you have AIM? I think it would be nice to participate in a discussion that others can't see.--Padawan Animator (talk) 15:49, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
- I think it's unlikely that anything horrible could come out of it, but I suppose it's remotely possible that some internet stalker could come after you or something. I just asked because some people prefer to keep their personal info off the internet, so I figured I'd run it by you. I agree, bringing up the condition at all, let alone misclassifying it, was unacceptable. I let them know they'd be blocked if they do it again.
- I don't think there's a rule for where to post in reply, but many people do prefer to keep posts together for that reason. If you want to do it that way on your talk page, I recommend putting a note at the top of this page saying "if you leave me a message here, I will reply here to keep threads in one place" or some such, so people will know to check back here for responses. You may also want to drop me a note on my talk page saying "I replied" or something, because I kind of suck at remembering to check back.
- I don't have AIM, but I do have IRC. Also, you could email me if you have an email address registered for yourself (go into your preferences and add an email address, then wait for a confirmation email and follow the directions in it).
- About your best articles request, yes, we keep a list of the best material, we call it featured content. Articles are at Wikipedia:Featured articles. Peace, delldot talk 16:46, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
WAIS
[edit]I would currently rate the article as a "start": better than a stub, but not as good as a "B class" article on the article assessment scale. The history sections are great, very informative. The main thing I would say it still needs is a lot of references (everything needs sources, see WP:ATT for the policy). Especially with something like a school, where the information isn't common knowledge, it's important to have checkable sources because someone could come in and put false info in there. So I'd recommend finding anything you can from news sources and the like that mentions the school, hopefully that will give you more info to add in to expand the article as well. Let me know if you need any help with it. Peace, delldot talk 07:59, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
- Hey, I have an idea. I think I'll just ask all the different contributors where they got their info. And if that doesn't work I might have to research news sources.
- I remember I got my info of the alma mater and honor code from my copy of the school planner booklet.
- May the Force be with you.--Padawan Animator (talk) 22:54, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
- Sounds good. Another idea would be to look for whatever you can find on the internet about the school, since there's probably not much. It's likely that you'll find some of the same info there in those references, which you can then cite. Let me know if you need any help with it. Peace, delldot talk 03:59, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
- When I was in high school, during my senior year, I had essentially a class hour where I was an assistant to the junior level principal. He was a grade level principal at Westchester before it closed and had all the yearbooks up until closing. As the job had quite a lot of downtime, I ended up reading the yearbooks, and they documented the information I added. Hope that helps. --76.99.29.158 (talk) 01:11, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
Talk posts
[edit]How's it going? Do you know that person, User:ZeroGiga? If so, do you have background on the dispute they're in? I noticed you edited their post to my talk page. Normally you're discouraged from doing that. See Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines: "As a rule, don't edit others' comments, including signatures." Of course you're more than welcome to correct grammar and spelling in the article namespace (that is, pages without a prefix such as User: or Talk:). See CAT:COPY for pages that need it. Anyway, how goes the WAIS article? Peace, delldot talk 16:41, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
- I simply edited the grammer and such. No harm done.
- Oh. Does that mean I'm not even supposed to edit their grammer and spelling? If so, that sucks bantha balls. Oh, well.
- May the Force be with you,--Padawan Animator (talk) 22:16, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
- I think you're generally discouraged from editing even people's grammer and spelling on talk pages and in discussions, yeah. Let's see, about your turning wikipedia black question, I definitely think it'd be possible for you to do it at least for yourself when you sign in. E.g. look at the "skin" tab in your preferences and check out the different skins. I think the way you change the way WP displays for you is to edit your monobook.css, but that's way to advanced computer stuff for me to know how to do it. Peace, delldot talk 21:26, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

- Yes, a warning is exactly the right thing to do in that situation, though I don't know if the vandalism was severe enough to merit a 4-im. No big deal though. Hm, who can you ask about that. Uh... I'm not even sure where you'd go to figure that out. Let me think on it and get back to you if I figure anything out. Peace, delldot talk 23:34, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
- What do you mean by 4-im?
- Anyway, I was just looking around on Uncyclopedia when I happened to find something very interesting: an entire article devoted to myself. I don't give a rat's ass about it, though. I'm just saying it's interesting.
- May the Force be with you,--Padawan Animator (talk) 23:47, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
(unindent) Whoa, there's one about me on there too! ;) I meant {{uw-v4im}}, which is what I thought you had used to warn them. You might have copied the text from one that someone had substed. Peace, delldot talk 23:52, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, after reading a bit in the talk page I noticed that it was programmed like that. I didn't know. Well, now I have even more of a reason not to give a rat's ass. I learned all about the concept from LincaLinca's page. I'm learning something new every day. Yeah, I think I'll change the warning. Wow, now I learned something else. Wikipedia is so awesome!
- May the Force be with you,--Padawan Animator (talk) 23:57, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
- Haha, yeah, that's one of my favorite wiki philosophies, I follow it every day! delldot talk 00:03, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Agreed
[edit]Agreed, It looks like they're trying to provoke you, so ignoring them is the best response. That threat looks like a blockable offense to me, but I'm giving them a ton of leeway, and leaving a final warning, after which they'll be blocked if they do it again. I'm not going to do the block myself because you and I have been talking so much that I consider myself involved, so it's not appropriate. If they blank your page again or do anything else that's obvious vandalism, just report them to WP:AIV, following the directions there. Leave the diffs, including the one you quoted to me, threatening to make new accounts to harrass you with. Those accounts will be blocked too, without warning as obvious sockpuppets if they do the same things. If it's something that's not obvious vandalism but still blockable, you may need to go through WP:ANB, but I don't think it will be that complicated. Peace, delldot talk 17:28, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit]I must have loaded the page just after you posted the notice. Ah well, DemonicRhino (talk · contribs · count) isn't the sort of user we want here. James086Talk | Email 02:17, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
Your question
[edit]You're talking about sock puppetry, which has a couple valid uses, but is generally discouraged, and some uses of sock puppets are strictly prohibited. Checkuser is the tool we use to detect them; it's not foolproof, but it's pretty useful. Peace, delldot talk 01:33, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

US BOR
[edit]Thanks for changing all of the numbers by writing them out. It is a grammatically correct and rigorous improvement. FYI, however, the people retain "every thing" is a direct quotation - in the original it is "every thing" not "everything," so you aren't supposed to change it (like "Magna Charta" in the subsequent quotation. That's just how they wrote it.) I changed it back for you. Thanks again for your contrib. Kaisershatner (talk) 15:04, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
- Whoops. I just kind of misinterpreted things before I edited it like that. Yeah, it really does make sense for it to be written more like "every thing." I'm glad you appreciated my other edit, though. Happy editing,--Padawan Animator (talk) 15:09, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
Your note
[edit]Hey, yeah, lots of people do that before they're familiar with the 'pedia. I'm just glad you started contributing positively!
Hey, listen, I wanted to talk to you about that person that posted to my talk page. I felt like you made a good decision in ignoring them, but you could have been friendlier about it to them. I mean, if you're going to ignore someone, you don't need to tell them you're going to, right? Assuming it was Demonic Rhino (which I kind of do, since they knew to come to me), your best bet is to ignore them completely. I've had considerable experience with this, since people come harrass me for blocking them or whatnot, and I can attest that they always get bored and wander off if their edits are met with no response at all or a simple revert (had one just the other day!) You're in an unfortunate situation in that this kid has decided it's fun or something to come after you, but I assure you you're making it more fun for him by reacting at all. The way to be untrollable is to be completely unphased by it (in my case, I find it vaguely amusing, which also works). Plus, if it wasn't Demonic Rhino, you were kind of rude to an innocent person, which would be a shame. Sorry, I don't mean to be hard on you. After all, for the most part your reaction was fine.
Merry Christmas to you too! Have a good break. Peace, Delldot on a public computer (talk) 06:22, 21 December 2007 (UTC) (My sockpuppet to protect the password of my real account)

My sock
[edit]Hey Padawan, glad you asked! I use the sockpuppet Delldot on a public computer because my real account has admin rights, so if it were to get hacked it could cause a fair amount of trouble for the 'pedia. So when I'm editing from a 'public computer', one that's not mine, I'm paranoid about stuff like keyloggers and other stuff that a potential hacker could use to steal my password and hack my account. In reality, it's probably pretty unlikely that all the necessary events would occur in the right sequence for this to happen. But since I'm not the only one that would suffer if it were to happen, I have a responsibility to be paranoid about it. So I edit from an account without admin rights when I'm editing from a computer I consider to be insecure, or one I'm not sure about. See also WP:SOCK#LEGIT, though it doesn't really have more info than what I just gave. Lemme know if this answers your question! Peace, delldot talk 14:21, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
- Is the 'pardon me' in response to the IRC cloak request? That is for IRC, which I use for chat when fighting vandalism and doing other stuff. The cloak is to hide my IP address and link my nickname on IRC to my Wikipedia username. The message was me proving that my IRC nick and WP username are linked. If that's not what you were asking about, let me know. Peace, delldot talk 17:18, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, that definitely was what I was asking about. You can tell because I asked right underneath the message. Merry Christmas, and happy editing,--Padawan Animator (talk) 18:14, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

Happy editing,--Padawan Animator (talk) 17:05, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
- If you wish to source it, try to include the name of the publication, the date of publication, the author (an organization name should/will do), and the date accessed. WhisperToMe (talk) 17:21, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
- Then again, maybe that stuff isn't quite so encyclopedic, right?--Padawan Animator (talk) 02:14, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
- What the guidelines in the Wikiproject Schools state is that it is okay to include school songs as long as references exist. "As a general rule of thumb if the name of the author is known copyright usually expires 70 years after the death of the author, although some countries have slightly shorter terms. If the name of the author is not known, copyright expires 70 years after the first known performance, except for schools in the US where copyright expires 95 years after the first known performance. All school songs should be referenced. It is recommended that school songs without appropriate references where the copyright status is unclear should be deleted. For further guidance and for advice on a case-by-case basis visit Wikipedia:Copyright problems." WhisperToMe (talk) 03:22, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

Your messages
[edit]Hey Padawan! Yeah, I get that a lot too - "but anyone can add anything!" It shows sort of a general failure to understand the project, and how many people are working on it all the time. I usually either respond by explaining how it's a collaborative effort and how most bad changes don't stick around long. If they're willing to read about studies of accuracy (e.g. comparing accuracy of wikipedia to Britannica) or actually watch recentchanges, they'd see the project works for the most part. Of course, most of the time people aren't really interested in hearing about it, they're basically dismissing it when they say that. So for them, I say 'the proof is in the pudding'; tell them look at Wikipedia articles, see if they can find problems. Chances are, if they're looking at pretty common topics, like, I dunno Maryland or tiger, they're going to get pretty high-quality stuff. If they're looking at more obscure areas, the odds they'll find something crappy are higher; it's just part of the project, and it's what we're working to fix. In my opinion, we Wikipedians worry too much about our image; we should just be producing high quality stuff and letting people choose for themselves if they want to use it. Like 'it's here, it is what it is, use it if you want'. To me, the fact that we do produce a huge amount of high quality stuff should speak for itself.
About userboxes, userboxes has pretty much all the info you asked for. There's a list at Wikipedia:Userboxes#Gallery, and plenty of info on the page on how to make one of your own, e.g. at Wikipedia:Userboxes#Constructing_a_userbox. I just took the source of some userbox and changed the colors, text, and images till I had it how I wanted it, but you can use the templates they provide there. Have fun! I've listed this article for peer review because it right now seems oddly cluttered and, despite my adding of a lot of references, it lacks reliable source citations. Although I've already requested another peer review for another article, as long as it helps the articles get better, I've got the time. Any helpful comments are appreciated, as this should help me in expanding other Star Wars-centric articles (particularly bios like that of Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, also in dire need of certain expansion). Thanks. — Cinemaniac (talk • contribs) 22:48, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
public sock + paranoia
[edit]- Yeah, I'm probably being way paranoid, especially since my work computer isn't even really that public. But it would suck to have the admin account hacked, so a little paranoia is in order. Mine's never been hacked, but a few other admins have had theirs hacked, and it was a pain dealing with the resultant mess (though I think in most of those cases weak passwords were to blame, not keyloggers).
- Yeah, people are already supposed to be nice, including admins. There's WP:CIV and WP:BITE for example. I guess the best way to deal with it is to discuss it with them privately at first, and just let them know as gently as possible that it bothers you. They may not realize they're coming off as hostile, since it's so easy to misread the emotion behind people's posts. I guess if it's out of hand and that doesn't help, you'd need to get another, neutral person involved, or if it was really bad go through WP:DR. Peace, delldot talk 15:36, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
- Well, like I said, this really isn't anything happening on Wikipedia. This goes on at the Infamous Adventures message board. The admin in question has the screen name Kurdt. You can take a look at specifics here, here, here, here, here, and here. There also seem to be a couple of self-contradictory statements here. Just to make sure you know, it's not like I mean to tattle on anyone. I'm just trying to discuss ideas about this. And there have been some times when he was actually quite nice. Happy editing,--Padawan Animator (talk) 23:27, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
- Hm, well, I don't really know about non-wikipedia matters. If it was me, I guess I'd just ignore it. But my advice about maybe talking to them about it privately (if possible) and letting them know it hurts your feelings might work. But if they're trying to be a jerk, there's not much you can do. The thing about wikipedia is that you're not actually supposed to be a jerk. Not necessarily so for the rest of the internet. Good luck! delldot talk 23:42, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
- Not necessarily so for the rest of the internet? I don't, uh . . . I don't understand. :-(--Padawan Animator (talk) 23:48, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
- Ha ha, you've noticed that, huh? Yeah, if only WP:CIV existed everywhere... Anyways, don't worry about annoying me, I like attention ;) Besides, I can just fail to respond if I don't have time. Peace, delldot talk 03:05, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
- Noticed what? Happy editing,--Padawan Animator (talk) 19:24, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
- That the rest of the internet is a pretty incivil place ;) delldot talk 19:26, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
Justification
[edit]About the justifying, I don't know, it's probably just something people prefer. A lot of the style stuff has been discussed and compromised on, e.g. at WP:MOS. About the internet forum, I think your response is very wise :-) Delldot on a public computer (talk) 07:30, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
Hey hey, thanks for the suggestion. I haven't been on wp for a while - which is why I was slow at replying - but I had a crack at that userbox. Something like this you wanted?
Actually, I think you might have wanted the horse, not the bouncy wikilogo... oh well! Tell me what you think about colours and stuff too. Thanks! Electriceel [ə.lɛk.tʃɹɪk il] 03:25, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
- Wow, thanks for doing this! Yeah, I was definitely thinking that the one with the horse looks more appropriate for this than the bouncy Wikilogo. I also like the links in there. I must say, though, I'm sure we can come up with some more interesting colors. I just went back to my collection of userboxes and noticed that the one for art as a favorite subject is mostly purple, with white. Maybe it'll look better like that. Happy editing,--Padawan Animator (talk) 03:41, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
- You can see it updated up there ^^.
- Yeah. Definitely the horse. For some reason I read what you said as: 'the animated wiki logo' ratehr than 'the wiki logo for animation'. Silly, silly me.
- As for the colours though, it's a bit hard to have much variation because the running horse has a background colour on it already (#666), so its box has to be that, and then if you mix up all the other colours, it comes out looking absurdly garish. I tried a few purples and they all looked a bit silly... this one looks ok I think, but much lighter is too contrasty and much darker gets a little confusing. You can have a go at mixing up the colours if you want, or just tell me what you want :) Electriceel [ə.lɛk.tʃɹɪk il] 06:49, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
- Fucking awesome! Now time to flaunt it.--Padawan Animator (talk) 18:21, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
- Woo! Top of the user boxes! I guess it is you username... Electriceel [ə.lɛk.tʃɹɪk il] 01:04, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, that's part of the humor that I had in mind from the beginning.
- Anyways, there was that other idea of mine for a userbox that would say, "This user is a member of the Lightbox Order." Forget about that one. Eventually, I decided that the idea would be as redundant as having a userbox that says, "This user is a Jedi Knight," along with one that says "This user is a member of the Jedi Order." Archiving talk
[edit]I dunno, I just do it when it gets annoyingly long, or whenever I have time. I don't think it matters, except that pages over like 50 kb are hard to load in some connections. Check out WP:Archiving talk pages for more info. Peace, delldot on a public computer talk 04:12, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
Adoption
[edit]I would be happy to attempt the challenge of 5 users if you wish? Please leave me a note on my page, because I hardly ever check my watchlist, I know, I'll go to my room and think about what I have done :( Anyway, if you are interested, I have just opened an assignment area, that I will set up an are for you on // F9T 12:45, 20 January 2008 (UTC) {{adoptoffer}}
- Gee, I dunno. Five users, huh? That's a lot. Happy editing,--Padawan Animator (talk) 14:35, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
- But its all about Wikipedia, I would be honoured to. // F9T 20:13, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
- Okey-dokey. I accept your offer of adoption.--Padawan Animator (talk) 00:05, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
Uncyclopedia
[edit]Never have. Primarily because I'm not funny! You? delldot talk 23:55, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah. Just a little bit, though. I added in a little joke in their Star Wars article, someone changed it a little, and I was awarded a cookiee when I told the guy that they're pretty funny. I'm sure I still have a lot to offer.--Padawan Animator (talk) 01:18, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Please do not add commentary or your own personal analysis to Wikipedia articles, as you did to Palpatine. Doing so violates Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy and breaches the formal tone expected in an encyclopedia. Thank you. —slakr\ talk / 03:19, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, you're quite welcome, but I don't really understand. Star Wars is a space opera. I was making a factual correction. Happy editing,--Artist Walser (talk) 03:23, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
- Ah... gotcha.... well, do as you would like. Just be sure it's verifiable. Cheers :) --slakr\ talk / 03:27, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

Request to participate in University of Washington survey on tool to quickly understand Wikipedians’ reputations
[edit]Hello. I'm part of a research group at the University of Washington. In April, we met with some local Wikipedians to learn what they would like to know about other editors’ history and activities (within Wikipedia) when interacting with them on talk pages. The goal of those sessions was to gather feedback to help design an embedded application that could quickly communicate useful information about other Wikipedians. We have now created a few images that we feel represent some of what our participants thought was important. We would appreciate it if you took a few minutes of your time to complete an online survey that investigates whether or not these images would be useful to you. Your quick contribution would be very valuable to our research group and ultimately to Wikipedia. (When finished, the code for this application will be given over to the Wikipedia community to use and/or adjust as they see fit.)
Willing to spend a few minutes taking our survey? Click this link.
Please feel free to share the link with other Wikipedians. The more feedback, the better! The survey is completely anonymous and takes less than 10 minutes to complete. All data is used for university research purposes only.
Thank you for your time! If you have any questions about our research or research group, please visit our user page. Commprac01 (talk) 21:17, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, Artist Walser! I'd like to invite you to join the Trackers Task Force. If you are interested in Patrick Carman's series The Trackers, you are perfect for this Wikipedia Project! Just add your name to the support list to join! The task force is under construction, so maybe you can help. Goodbye!!! Hidividedby5 (talk) 22:56, 22 June 2010 (UTC) |
Wikipedia Ambassador Program in Houston
[edit]Hi! I'm leaving you this message because you're listed as a Wikipedian from Houston. The Wikipedia Ambassador Program is currently looking for Campus Ambassadors from the Houston area, to help with Wikipedia assignments at Texas Southern University. Classes at TSU will be participating in the Public Policy Initiative for the Spring 2011 semester, and the role of Campus Ambassadors will be to provide face-to-face training and support for students on Wikipedia-related skills (how to edit articles, how to add references, etc.). This includes doing in-class presentations, running workshops and labs, possibly holding office hours, and in general providing in-person mentorship for students.
Prior Wikipedia skills are not required for the role, as training will be provided for all Campus Ambassadors (although, of course, being an experienced editor is a plus).
If you are interested in being a Wikipedia Campus Ambassador, or know someone in Houston who might be, please email me or leave a message on my talk page. Thanks!--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 20:13, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
