Arlene Baxter article
[edit]As you can see, I've added some info to the article. What is written on arlenebaxterphotography.com can't be copied verbatim since there isn't a suitable license on the bio. It's copyrighted by you. You can add to the article. There's nothing against that as long as it doesn't sound like an advertisement or seem like a conflict of interest, then people probably won't raise a fuss. Sources would be welcome and help. For instance, articles, television, web sites, etc. By the way, there are a number of people who edit their "own" articles. Cory Doctorow pops to mind (he's a writer, one of my faves too).
As far as photos go, to upload one, just click on the "Upload file" link which can be found in the "toolbox" on the left side of every page. Any image that is uploaded will have to have a suitable free license. Something like the GFDL or Sharealike licenses work best. I'm really bad at the red tape that surrounds images, so anything more than what I've said would be questionable. As far as where to upload the image though, it would be best to upload it to the WikiMedia Commons. That way, any language version of the Wikipedia can use the image. For instance, the Baxter article has been translated into Swedish (see the link on the left side of the article in the "languages" box). If you uploaded the image to the Commons, then the Swedish language version could also use that photo. If you upload it only to the English Wikipedia, that's the only place it can be used unless someone else goes through the trouble of re-uploading it to the Commons or to the Swedish WP.
As far as other Playboy appearances go, I checked into the two issues that you mentioned. I have a bit of a collection, though it starts to get sparse in the early 90s and the 80s are practically non-existent. Though, I do have the two issues you mentioned. The Kathy Shower cover issue doesn't mention the models names (least not that I could find). And I think you have the wrong issue for the Elite models layout. The Jessica Hahn cover issue has part of the interview with Daniel Ortega on page 72. And no mention of an Elite pictorial in the table of contents. Do you have copies of these or were you going from memory?
I just saw that you left me a message. I think that what I put above here should answer most if not all of that message. And you're welcome. I'm sorry it took so long to get to. I work full time plus have gone back to school, so things, such as research and larger WP edits, get put off till the weekends. Dismas|(talk) 16:19, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, it is a very busy schedule. I normally only do small edits because that's about all I have time for. Anything lengthy or involved gets pushed off till the weekends. I happen to be online right now simply because I just got home from work and have a few minutes to myself.
- As far as uploading an image... You mentioning an error jogged my memory. I believe there's a sort of probationary period that a new account has to go through before an image can be uploaded. It's to keep people from causing trouble by creating accounts and then uploading copyrighted images and such before they really know their way around.
- And about the Jessica Hahn cover. I got the issues mixed up. She was on the cover of the November '87 issue as well which was the one that I was looking at. She was again on the cover for the issue you have there, which I don't have here.
- Got to go for now, Dismas|(talk) 13:26, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
Magazine covers
[edit]As far as uploading an image of a magazine cover, if I'm correctly reading what your intentions are, that would probably not be a good idea. From WP:FU, in the Unexceptable Use:Images section: A magazine cover, to illustrate the article on the person whose photograph is on the cover. However, if the cover itself is the subject of sourced discussion in the article, and if the cover does not have its own article, it may be appropriate. I've run into this a number of times. We used to have a magazine cover at the top of almost every Playmate article as well as other model articles. Some possible other examples may include Cindy Crawford, Elle MacPherson, etc. Basically, the powers that be informed the editors of WP that the image of the magazine cover must be used when directly discussing that issue of the magazine or on the magazine's article page (such as the main article for Playboy with its picture of the first issue at the top of the article). So, unless the issue of the magazine is notable for something (e.g. your appearance on the cover was covered widely in the press for whatever reason) then it's not a good idea to upload the cover image.
I get the feeling that I keep bringing up things that can't be done here when there is so much that can be. I don't mean to sound like such a negative person. But I'm just trying to let you know. Dismas|(talk) 06:43, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
New site
[edit]Done. Although, going to that site gives me the following error: "This presentation contains content that your browser may not be able to show properly." I tried both Safari and Firefox. Dismas|(talk) 20:35, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
