On Jadavpur protest article

[edit]

Besides source problems, a major problem is incoherence of the article. It's understandable. Many editors are trying to contribute, with often emotionally charged content. To begin with, the lead, that is the introduction, is huge. If I get time in next 24-36 hours, i will try to reduce its size. Overall the article has a signal ficant amount of repetition of info. Try to reduce those. Brevity is very important. Also, the fewer the details, the less problematic is sourcing. You don't need to say everything in a wikipedia article.--Dwaipayan (talk) 22:48, 23 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

huge lead per se is not a problem, if that is truly needed to summarize the article. However, right now, the article not that big as to need such a huge lead. In any case, you try to edit the content, you don't need to edit the lead for now. I will try that later, if possible. And that's a great thing you did, to tell others in facebook/Twitter not to do a lot of emotionally charged stuff.Neutrality and sourcing are the main problem. Good thing is a few regulars are editing the article, which will help.
Meanwhile, I read about demonstrations at different places. For example, Jalpaiguri in today's anandabazar. You can create a section on such demonstration of solidarity. However, each event may not need more than a sentence or two. The New York one might be a big one (considering its a different country) it seems. --Dwaipayan (talk) 23:38, 23 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I see such a section is already there (Support). Sorry, I did not really read the whole article in the past couple of days. --Dwaipayan (talk) 23:57, 23 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
ok, in the present version [1], essentially the last paragraph of Origins section, the first paragraph of Operation of gherao lifting, and most part of the subsection September 17 under the section Timeline are same. Moreover there are discrepancy in the data presented in these sections (number of hurt, time etc). Based on sources, try to consolidate these section in one part. I think best would be to consolidate in timeline section. No need of saying anything in Origins. Indeed, the operation of gherao lifting can be entirely removed, with criticism being discussed as a sub-subsection under September 17 subsection.
Also, words such as allegedly are sensitive. You need sources as citation. Indeed, often someone may ask alleged according to whom.--Dwaipayan (talk) 00:13, 24 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
