Welcome
[edit]Hello, ApRaGol! Welcome to Wikipedia! It appears you are a course instructor leading a class project or assignment. If you're new to Wikipedia or want to learn about best practices for Wikipedia assignments and class projects, we highly recommend that you go through the our training page for instructors.
The training includes instructions for setting up a structured course page and with tools for tracking student work and encouraging peer review. I also highly recommend that you review the advice for instructors page.
If you run into problems or want some feedback on your Wikipedia assignment plans, try posting to the education noticeboard.
Here are some more pages that you might find helpful:
- The five pillars of Wikipedia
- How to edit a page (editing policy)
- Introduction to Wikipedia
- Help pages index
- Visual editor tutorial
- Wikitext tutorial (if you're choosing to edit pages using the Wikitext source code instead of the VisualEditor)
- Wikitext cheatsheet
While editing:
- Maintain a neutral point of view – this is one of Wikipedia's core policies.
- Be bold, but do not add troublesome content to any article, such as: copyrighted text, libel, advertising or promotional messages, and text that is not related to an article's subject; doing so will result in your account or IP being blocked from editing.
- Respect copyrights – do not copy and paste text or images directly from other websites.
- No edit warring or abuse of multiple accounts.
- Provide reliable sources to the content you add. If you are adding biomedical information, please follow this guideline.
- Take particular care while adding biographical material about a living person to any Wikipedia page and follow Wikipedia's Biography of Living Persons policy. Particularly, controversial and negative statements should be referenced with multiple reliable sources.
- If you are testing, please use the Sandbox to do so.
We hope you like it here and encourage you to stay with us as a member of the community - even after your teaching assignment is finished. Your time, energy, and your contributions will be highly valued and appreciated among us.

- Leaving you this welcome message just in case any of the links are of use to you; you've already had a great start. Thank you for your students! I've come across two of their articles so far and they're doing really well. Looking forward to the Early Women Writers course as well. You may also be able to get your students interested in WP:WIRED - it's a very newbie-friendly wikiproject that is always happy to help editors working on articles on women's biography and history. -- asilvering (talk) 19:48, 5 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hello! And thanks for the welcome message. I appreciate it. My Early Women Writers course was last semester and they completed three pages on eighteenth-century works by women: 'Narrative of Charlotte Charke,' 'Victim of Prejudice' and 'Millenium House.' I would like your advice on a student's work this semester, though. Kylie Biglow who has a draft in the sandbox on 'The Pencil' by Susan Avingaq. But she's seeing no way of moving it toward publishing and I can't see the button that is usually there on students' pages. Could you please help with that? Or should I reach out to Brianda or someone else? Thanks! ApRaGol (talk) 16:41, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
- No problem! I've submitted it on behalf of that editor. She removed the submission template by mistake in Special:Diff/1261080144. -- asilvering (talk) 02:43, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot! I appreciate your assistance in this. ApRaGol (talk) 03:15, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
