Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

October 2012

[edit]

Hello, I'm Widr. I noticed that you recently removed some content from Kanchenjunga Express without explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks, Widr (talk) 12:18, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The recent edit you made to Kanchenjunga Express has been reverted, as it removed all content from the page without explanation. Please do not do this, as it is considered vandalism; use the sandbox for testing. If you think the page should be deleted, see here for what to do. Thank you. Mdann52 (talk) 12:35, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Please do not replace pages with blank content, as you did with this edit to Jharkhand Sampark Kranti, as this is confusing to readers. The page's content has been restored for now. If there is a problem with the page, it should be edited or reverted to a previous version if possible; if you think the page should be removed entirely, see further information. Thank you. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Coke Studio (India), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Richa Sharma (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Hurry?

[edit]

Thanks for your edits but please don't be in a hurry. Rampurhat will become a junction only when the Dumka line is put in operation. There was no need to move it now. Please pause a little before you change existing information. Then in the new page like Sainthia Junction, don't leave a page with just an infobox. Please add at least a lead before moving on to other edits. Try to add referenced information. Cheers. - Chandan Guha (talk) 05:50, 28 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Changes in templates

[edit]

I had put up two types of lines - 1. Trunk or National Routes and 2. Branch Lines/ Sections. The trunk routes were showing the main stations with intermittent lines in between indicating gaps. The Branch Lines/ Sections were showing all the intermediate stations without any breaks. I find that you are filling up the Sahibganj Loop template, which I considered a trunk line, with some of the intermediate stations. This would make the trunk line template too long and unwieldy. It would have been better if you had made a new page for the Barharwa-Kiul section. Moreover, it is time for you to develop new pages, rather than making changes and corrections only. The Howrah-Delhi main line also needs sections from Asansol to Mughalsarai. Hundreds of other pages are needed. Cheers. - Chandan Guha (talk) 05:15, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Railway station names

[edit]

I have proposed that all railway station names in India be suffixed only with ‘railway station’ and all pages named otherwise be suitably altered. Kindly give your views on this subject in Wikipedia talk:Noticeboard for India-related topics. Cheers. - Chandan Guha (talk) 13:51, 2 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your edits

[edit]

There are certain things that I thought should tell you. It is up to you to follow or not:

1. You should have a sandbox where you can try out things and then put them on a Wikipedia page when you are ready. This would reduce the huge number of edits you are making. You can get an idea of a sandbox from my talk page

2. You have been deleting links to town pages in the railway route charts. May be you are right. I had inserted those links mainly because there are hardly any railway station pages for India. However, the positive side is that it may induce other Wikipedians to put up station pages. As far as pages created by me are concerned, you need not edit out the town links. I have started doing it myself and would do it for all pages I created about Indian railway lines.

3. In the Andal-Sainthia branch line template you deleted the branch lines. You have a point but please create separate pages for the branch lines before deleting them. By page I mean text+route chart. Creating a route chart is the easier part of the job. Getting suitable referenced material for the text for small Indian branch lines is very difficult. If you simply delete, you are destroying valuable information on Wikipedia.

4. You are not filling up the Edit summary column till now. You should do it.

5. Why not create more station pages? Sainthia Junction was a small beginning. Why not Suri, Bolpur, Andal, Durgapur, Bardhaman and so many others.

Happy editing and cheers. - Chandan Guha (talk) 13:20, 4 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • About small branch lines, the point is not in merely creating a separate route chart. There are some main lines with several branch lines. You cannot have several railway route charts on a single page (particularly when you are using a BS3 chart). If you want a separate route chart for branch lines, you should put them on separate pages (chart + text). Then again, you should first create the page and then delete the branch line from the main page. Otherwise, others will think that you are vandalising a page. About deletion of town page links see point 2 above. I have already started deleting the town page links, but it may take some time as I have created a large number of templates. Cheers. - Chandan Guha (talk) 13:58, 4 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

New template

[edit]

My first reaction is that you are good at template making, but on which page are you going to place it? Sitarampur Junction? Or are you going to create a new page - Howrah-Sitarampur line? In Wikipedia, the basic is the text page. Railway route charts, photographs, maps etc. are all supplementary. So, if you are creating pages and then supporting them with these, it is fine. If you are only creating a route chart, then you may leave it like that or find a page created by someone else to put it on. In the latter case, you may not be welcome. Alternatively, you can look for pages that do not have a route chart. There are Mumbai pages, Central Line (Mumbai Suburban Railway) and Western Line (Mumbai Suburban Railway), which do not have route charts. You can add them. In West Bengal, the page Ahmedpur Katwa Railway does not have a route chart. However, I think that both the Sahibganj Loop template and this template are incomplete. Where are the links to other lines?

I have noticed that you have started signing messages. The easier way is by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your message. Your name, date and time will come automatically.
