Conflict of Interest
[edit]Hello @Antoine.Boghos - if you are going to edit pages related to organisations that you are paid to work for, you need to be extremely familiar with WP:COI and WP:PAID. I've reverted the changes to Hala Badri's article for the time being, but I see there is a lot of further material in the article that might be problematic. Did Andrey.Demiyanov also work for the department by any chance? Every assertion made in the article needs to supported by a reliable secondary source, please follow WP:RS. Thanks Lajmmoore (talk) 05:45, 18 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hello Lajmmoore. I am not paid to work for Dubai Culture. I work for an agency and not the organization Hala Badri is in (Dubai Culture). The edits made are because I know the updates on her bio. I just fixed the errors in her page. I'd appreciate if you can keep the changes I made. To be clearer, please see below edits made in detail:
- added a couple missing citations
- fixed a few things in the career section and added missing information
- fixed the board memberships she is a part of
- added the most recent achievement of being named as one of Fast Company Middle East's most creative people in business
- Kindly re-insert the changes I made. Antoine.Boghos (talk) 05:55, 18 July 2024 (UTC)
- I'm afraid being paid by any company, especially a third party is considered a conflict of interest, please see WP:COI. You need to disclose this on your user page. You need to read the guidelines on paid editing careully, and on editing more generally and follow that guidance (links above). Please do not edit the article until you have fully understood the guidelines. Lajmmoore (talk) 20:39, 18 July 2024 (UTC)
- Following up on this, the very first thing you need to do is disclose who is paying you on your user page. Secondly, I've spent a not inconsiderable amount of time making the article more neutral (see WP:NPOV) and tagging sources to demonstrate where one is required, or where a secondary source is needed. I would strongly encourage you to not directly edit the page, but to copy-paste text onto the article's talk page and ask for feedback - either here, or at WP:Women in Red (people who edit about women). Then another editor would transfer it to the article, see WP:PAID. Kindly follow these suggestions! I have left a note on the article's talk page about the situation, so that if other editors take a look they can see our discussion. Lajmmoore (talk) 21:26, 18 July 2024 (UTC)
- Every reference needs to be from a reliable, secondary source. This is good for reliability and this explains about secondary sources Lajmmoore (talk) 21:29, 18 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hello. In this case, can I send you her updated biography and you edit the article? or if you prefer, I can put the edits on a word document where additions/edits are clearly highlighted and I could send that to you over email so you'd see what needs to be changed. This is urgent please as Her Excellency herself asked us to update her page! Antoine.Boghos (talk) 04:42, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
- I understand why you would ask me to do that, but Wikipedia requires paid editors to follow the guidelines set out. For Hala Badri, she perhaps needs to understand that just because an article is about her, doesn't mean she has editorial control of it. To contribute to it, any editor - including you - needs to follow the procedures set out. This includes updating information on yur user page, and following the guidance that changes to an article by a paid editor should be made on the talk page, following Wikipedia's guidance on editing. Please do this. Lajmmoore (talk) 05:23, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
- I have placed the conflict of interest tag in my page. however, I would like to clarify that I am not being paid to edit the page, and hence I can't add the paid disclaimer as it would be not true. What should I do now? do I need to redo all the edits, or will you be able to revert them back from your end? how does it work? Antoine.Boghos (talk) 05:36, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
- Since I added the COI tag, I am currently editing her page by adding the secondary sources you advised on. Once done, I will ping you here and please do let me know if anything else is needed. Appreciate you supporting me through this process! Antoine.Boghos (talk) 06:51, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
- Done. Please let me know if everything is ok now, and if we can delete the comment on the talk page, I will greatly appreciate that - I don't want it to be part of her official page, please. Antoine.Boghos (talk) 07:09, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
- I am happy to further edit if you feel it needs that, I will happily be part of that and I really do appreciate you giving me the guidance! Antoine.Boghos (talk) 07:09, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
- Note: you will notice 2 places where you said secondary source is needed; there aren't any secondary sources, except for the organisation official page that shows her being the member. what should I do in this case? Antoine.Boghos (talk) 07:16, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
