Units of measure

[edit]

Hi, regarding the station roof dimensions you've been adding, a few points. For example, at St Pancras railway station, you've put

Materials - [[wrought-iron]] framework of [[lattice]] design, glass covering the middle half and timber (inside)/slate (outside) covering the outer quarters.

This reads like a summary, but should really be prose.

Dimensions - length 207m/'679, width 72m/'236, height 30m/'98 at the apex above the railtracks.

Again, this should be prose, but additionally, the dimensions should be given in one set of units and converted to the other form by using the {{convert}} template, so if your source gives the dimensions in metres, you would put

The roof was {{convert|207|m|ft}} long, {{convert|72|m|ft}} wide ...

which shows as

The roof was 207 metres (679 ft) long, 72 metres (236 ft) wide ...

As a side issue, when using an apostrophe to denote feet, it goes after the figure (679'), not before; but Wikipedia prefers the word "feet" or the abbreviation "ft" because of the ambiguity - there are several other uses of apostrophes. Above all: you need to provide references for all the information that you add, per the policy on verifiability. Thanks. --Redrose64 (talk) 17:34, 7 June 2011 (UTC),[reply]

Fair enough. Regarding references, those already cited by previous editors appeared to confirm most of our edits/additions. Anorakery (talk) 10:08, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
