Hello!
[edit]Greetings! I'm really excited to see your future article on Peter Hall - I recently created an article on the tapestry that Le Corbusier created for the opera house, Les Dés Sont Jetés. Do let me know if I can help in any way - I've written many biographical articles on artists. No Swan So Fine (talk) 08:48, 17 January 2022 (UTC)
- Hullo No Swan so Fine - my Peter Hall draft seems to be stuck with another editor - 'Hoary' - who I now haven't heard from for almost 2 months. Any suggestions? Why don't you edit my entry?
- Thanks

AfC notification: Draft:Peter Hall (architect) has a new comment
[edit]- Hullo. Happy to delete/transfer external refs where necessary. However, your comments re unsubstantiated claims in the para quoted is a bit more problematic. Difficult to find specific references for what is general knowledge about the history of the SOH. I can tone down the rhetoric - would that help? Its like having to source specific refs to validate the claim that Hitler was a mass murderer! Also - not sure what the next step is. Do I wait until the full article is reviewed before I address the issues raised??

[edit]As I've said, I greatly enjoy your draft . . . but it's problematic. I very much hope that it can be turned into an article, and I expect that it will be. However, do please read WP:Expert editors. -- Hoary (talk) 11:54, 6 April 2022 (UTC)
Peter Hall archive
[edit]I've just noticed that the photo of Hall looking through a camera has been nominated for deletion. Please clarify its copyright status: if you don't, it will go, and it may well take Marion Best interior c1966.tif with it (and probably others too, though I haven't yet looked at how they're described). -- Hoary (talk) 23:03, 6 April 2022 (UTC)
- Hullo Hoary! I went through a very protracted process supplying copyright permission for the images, all but two of which are from the Peter Hall archive. (two are my own) Copyright is with his son Willy Hall, who I know well. Under advice from Wikipedia I used the permissions template signed by Willy and, from memory, emailed it - with shots of the images to be used - to, I think, Wikipedia photosubmissions, as advised. Utterly perplexed that there is still a problem. I had no problem uploading the images to my article so assumed it had all been processed and approved by Wikipedia. Could you let me know what the problem is please. Anne Annejwatson (talk) 01:16, 23 April 2022 (UTC)
- Dear Hoary - it is now almost 2 months since our last communication. Can you let me know what is happening?
- Thanks. Anne Annejwatson (talk) 01:31, 13 June 2022 (UTC)

- If I may add a more personal note here, allow me to express my regret that the issues here were not identified much earlier in the submission process. Unfortunately, the primary biographical portion of the article paraphrases the source very closely, and in practice way too closely for comfort. This is compounded by the challenge that a biography necessarily follows the historical facts of the life it aims to do justice, which limits the available choice of words to use. As a consequence, copying a single source over and then trying to paraphrase (as I presume you did) will invariably remain closely tied to the original text. I would recommend, as a better practice, to start with two or more sources, take a manual note of the key points in the person's life and career, then close both of your sources, do something different for a while, then pick up your notes and turn them into prose in your own words.

- Hullo - As you say its a great pity I wasn't alerted to this copyright 'issue' earlier. However, it is not a problem because I sought permission from the author - Prof Peter Webber - of the OpusSOH website biography some time ago. I will now obtain his release of the text via your instructions. Please don't delete the offending text!
