Adoption
Hello. I am interested in being an adoptee, and am interested in editing articles about environmental issues, geography, energy, electricity generation, automobiles, computer science, and meteorology. Twexcom (talk) 00:12, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
- I'm glad to see that you've been adopted. I've been editing sporadically as of late, and I think that having an adopter who edits predictably will be better than having one who edits unpredictably. —Animum (talk) 21:02, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
Please!HELP!Adopt ME!!!!!

- I'm sorry, but I'm not that active, as I said above. It would be best to have a more active adopter. —Animum (talk) 22:03, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
Easyblock: watch talk pages after blocking
I'd prefer to watch the talk pages of those I block, can this option be added? (Should be default imo, but that's up to you). –xeno talk 13:45, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
- Ah, well, it should be an option but not the default I suppose since most talk pages aren't edited afterwards anyway ending up having to clean most redundant entries in the watchlist. But, Animum, can there be options for schoolblocking time < 3 months? And, also, perhaps a grawp-style blocking option with talk page, email disabled etc. with no block notice posting? -- Mentifisto 04:16, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
- Or make it extensible in ones own monobook. I'm currently blocking a couple of User:Yourname open proxy IPs every day with talk page disabled, {{blocked proxy}}, two weeks, and have to do it all manually, poor me. :) Amalthea 09:19, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
- If the pages aren't edited, what harm do they cause in the watchlist? =) I like to watch the talk pages because IPs are often recidivist, helps me to issue swift reblocks if they return to vandalism upon expiry of the block. Though, perhaps it should stay as "not watched" by default since that's how it acts now and we don't want to surprise people. –xeno talk 17:20, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
- Hm, I think that substing block notices with the script would be better, as well. -- Mentifisto 17:17, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
- If you're talking about {{schoolblock}}, it's not supposed to be subst'd. –xeno talk 17:19, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, all the block notifications are subst'ed in the script except {{schoolblock}}, which isn't supposed to be subst'ed. —Animum (talk) 01:25, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
- To xeno:
- I'll make it an option to be set in one's own monobook.
- To Mentifisto:
- I'm trying to make a tree-like drop-down list that does something like this (hard to explain without an example): Hover over "block," and the list appears; hover over, say, "vandalism," and a list of vandalism-related blocks appears; etc. I'm just concerned that the list is getting too lengthy for this sort of configuration not to be used. But after trying to code this before and looking at different approaches, I just can't get it to work. :-/ Once I get the code for the tree-style drop-down menu, I'll put your new options in. I think I'm going to make a friendly request to a coder on the village pump... —Animum (talk) 01:25, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
- The new tree style is excellent. Might I suggest adding anonblock? –xeno talk 23:28, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
- You may! The watchlist setting has been added, and I'll get to work on the new schoolblock and anonblock features. Perhaps we should revert to show-on-hover in light of the new style? —Animum (talk) 23:44, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
- I see you implemented it; it's nifty, and also quicker now. Thanks; in addition, could you add blocks for over a year as well? -- Mentifisto 18:10, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- It is possible to keep the show-on-click in an option, or does that cause too much headache? –xeno talk 18:13, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- It's definitely doable. :-) I forgot to tell you that to enable the watch-pages feature, you need to add
watchlistEnabled : true
to ebPrefs. (If you don't know how, see User:Animum/EasyBlock#ebPrefs.) —Animum (talk) 00:14, 13 May 2009 (UTC)- Ah, I see that you've already added the documentation! :-) —Animum (talk) 00:16, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
- Option added —Animum (talk) 00:28, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, I figured even though I am javascript-0, I could make some minor contribution ;> The new option is great, thank you very much! This is another option you might consider, though not entirely urgent - perhaps the ability for users to program their own custom blocks in the preferences. –xeno talk 15:36, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

- @Mentifisto, Blocks over a year are typically inappropriate save for proxyblocking... Putting it in a tool may encourage their use, so I wuold probably be opposed to that. –xeno talk 18:13, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- There's already blocks for over a year in the plain vandalism section. Usually schools have incremental blocks as well; would you block for one year again after a previous year block had expired? -- Mentifisto 17:54, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
- Then those should probably probably be removed. And yes, simply reblocking for another year is fine. Giving the next crop of students a chance to contribute positively and perhaps become interested enough to register an account, to me, outweighs the small effort we take to reblock each year if vandalism resumes. –xeno talk 18:00, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

- Also, Animum, do you know why the script would say that someone had already been blocked if a previous block had clearly expired as in this case? -- Mentifisto 17:54, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
- This will take some time to investigate, but my first thoughts are that the servers may not have been updated, though I'm not sure how plausible this explanation is. Because the user has been unblocked and reblocked, it will be hard to recreate the conditions that caused the faulty detection. —Animum (talk) 23:58, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

- Is there a reason why you limit the number of block log entries to two? And if there is, would you mind if I made that configurable so that I can turn it off for me? :) Amalthea 10:57, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- Whenever I added the code, I wanted to limit it to a block and a possible unblock. I also think it would be better if it showed the full log, though, so I've removed the "&limit=2" part. —Animum (talk) 23:58, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

- I'm uncomfortable with Amalthea and Animum collaborating on javascript. The result would be too epic. –xeno talk 13:28, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- Why, I'm flattered. :> —Animum (talk) 23:58, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- Also, please check that this is ok (just added 2 weeks as an option). –xeno talk 14:48, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- My scripts started acting up, I wasn't sure if I botched the change so I reverted it. Please evaluate and implement if it wasn't this particular change. –xeno talk 17:10, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- You didn't mess anything up, at least not in easyblock.js. :-) —Animum (talk) 23:58, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, I have no idea what happened. Easyblock stopped opening for me, and the handy dandy Wiki-link internalizer stopped showing up. But I just poked and prodding the scripts around a bit and everything seems ok now. I have more ideas for your easyblock (like a rouge block with talk page editing disabled ;>, and also maybe NPA/harassment and proxyblocking?)... but no rush, and they're not critical. =) –xeno talk 00:09, 15 May 2009 (UTC)
- I see you did the grawp-style blocking... although as reason there's 'page-move vandalism'... what about those who vandalize pages about NawlinWiki or other vandal SPAs who receive a similar block in style? -- Mentifisto 12:13, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

- Could you implement an automatic back-scratcher and an automated coffee brewer in the script as well? Thanks. --cremepuff222 (talk) 14:44, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, I'll get right on that. ;-) —Animum (talk) 17:08, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
Question: What are your thoughts on disabling e-mail capabilities for the NPA blocks? —Animum (talk) 17:51, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
- Yea, something like "Blatant vandalism or harassment"+indef+no email+no tp+no notify would help solve the comment Mentifisto makes above. I don't think blocking email for all NPA should be the default. –xeno talk 18:40, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
- Easyblock doesn't seem to play well with User:Mr.Z-man/closeAFD.js or Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/delsort.js, which is a shame, because I really need all 3. Even in minimal configurations of my monobook.js that have only what's needed for those 3, if easyblock is enabled, then I don't see a "close" tab, and I see a "delsort" tab but clicking on it does nothing. Is there a way you can tell easyblock to "do nothing" when I'm looking at an AfD page? - Dank (push to talk) 15:19, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
- Excellent, all 3 are working together now, thanks. - Dank (push to talk) 22:36, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

Bug report on the mass deletion tool
What I pasted in the window was:
Alex & Solo (virus) Axis Publishing Co. [etc.]
... but it actually deleted Alex instead of Alex & Solo (virus). (It deleted the other files correctly.) Gave me an angry customer to deal with :) - Dank (push to talk) 02:15, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
ThankSpam
Thank you for participating in my "RecFA", which passed with a final tally of 153/39/22. There were issues raised regarding my adminship that I intend to cogitate upon, but I am grateful for the very many supportive comments I received and for the efforts of certain editors (Ceoil, Noroton and Lar especially) in responding to some issues. I wish to note how humbled I was when I read Buster7's support comment, although a fair majority gave me great pleasure. I would also note those whose opposes or neutral were based in process concerns and who otherwise commented kindly in regard to my record. ~~~~~ |
