Hello
Hello there, i'm The Random Editor. I'm kind of new here you could say. I have been here since March 2007, though I have only had the opportunity to edit for a total of one month's time. I'm trying to say hi, to all the people I see on WP:MOTTO and stuff like that. I have seen your username pop up alot so just thought I would say hi, "hi!" --Random Say it here! 01:30, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

Help at MotD, please!
Hi, Magnus. Yesterday, I spent forty-five minutes closing who-knws-how-many mottoes, and today I've closed the same amount. But, there are still some mottoes needing to be closed, but quite honestly, I'm a bit sick of it. I've had a few mishaps (including accidentely blanking the nominations page), so I'm a bit frustrated. Do you think you could give me a hand? I understand if you'd rather not, as some people at RfA might look down upon it, but the in review section has really gotten out of hand. Thanks, Magnus! *Cremepuff222* 17:43, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
MOTD
However, aren't multiple versions of the same one often approved? Simply south 19:30, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
Done with closings
Cool. I'll be closing regularly now so that we can avoid these mass closers in the future. Thanks for all of your help! On a random note, how was the movie? *Cremepuff222* 23:58, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
- Firstly, I'm glad the movie was good. I'm quite an Eragon fan, so last night, my mother rented the movie version, which I was utterly dissapointed with. As for closing the MotDs, I'll let you and Tewy if you would like to that badly... XD *Cremepuff222* 00:15, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
- Ahhh, no thanks for the IRC thing. I've gotten in trouble at home for downloading Firefox, AWB, Perl, etc., so I'll just stick to talk page edits. I haven't read that series yet, but I've heard that its really good. I really recommend reading Eragon (though not the movie), and by the time you finish it, I wouldn't be surprised if you wanted to read the sequal. What other books do you like? *Cremepuff222* 00:24, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
- Scratch that last comment, I'll be going there right now! *Cremepuff222* 00:29, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
Motd nomclosing
On {{Motd nomclosing}}, if you simply copy the discussions needing to be closed from "In review" to "Awaiting decision", you shouldn't run into an edit conflict. Very few people edit the nominations page itself, making it much easier to close nominations. I suppose it's all a matter of opinion on whether you want to use the template, though. However, I would discourage using it on the In review page, because I know I would be upset if I went to vote on a motto for the first time and saw that. --Tewy 21:53, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
- (From User talk:Tewy) I was approving the mottoes on the In review sections directly, not migrating them to the Awaiting decision section. The only reason I used {{Motd nomclosing}} was because, due to the size and duration of my edit, I didn't want to run into an edit conflict. ~ Magnus animum ∵ ∫ φ γ 22:08, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, I was suggesting not to edit the "In review" page itself to close nominations, but rather to use the nominations page, as it doesn't get edited as much. --Tewy 22:14, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
- By the way, are you done closing, or do the warnings need to remain there still? --Tewy 22:21, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
- Umm, aren't you only to close mottoes that are 14 says old? *Cremepuff222* 23:44, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
Sorry, Magnus. I missed the tag at the top of MOTTO and supported a motto. Then I reverted it which ended up reverting the edit you did seconds before. Instead of reverting back to your edit. I decided to leave it alone. Sorry. --Random Say it here! 23:47, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
- I'll take over the archiving at this point, Magnus, if that's alright with you... *Cremepuff222* 23:53, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
- Hi. It turns out that both simply south and I prefer to use "mottos", but both you and Cremepuff222 prefer to use "mottoes". After checking your userpages, it turns out that, among the userpages I've looked at, the people that decide to use "mottos" use commonwealth English, and the people that prefer to use "mottoes" use American english. Could this be just a coincidence? I think we should settle for consensus on the templatetalkpage. What do you think? Thanks. – AstroHurricane001(Talk+Contribs+Ubx)(+sign here+How's my editing?) 15:59, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
- If I may respond here, I'll just throw in that it's not a huge problem, but I get around it by using "nominations" instead. --Tewy 17:07, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
Close without bullets
Just a minor formatting comment, but please close nominations without the bulleted system; it stands out more (see Wikipedia talk:Motto of the day/Nominations/Archive 3#Closing). Thanks. --Tewy 17:46, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

The Sun Also Rises
I was the user who edited the page on Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises. Pardon me, but I did not delete any content from that page: all I did was add a spoiler warning, which owing to my inexpertise was not done with the proper template. I'm now going to find out what the proper template is and add it again, and since the plot summary for The Sun Also Rises does feature spoilers, I defy you to remove it again. No need to apologize. That article was a mess when you nominated it. Pronunciation of "Acalamari".
An interesting question: I've never been asked that before. :) To be honest, I've always considered the pronunciation to be "Aca-lamari" instead of "A-calamari". I liked the way "Aca-lamari" sounded, which was one of the reasons why I chose it. Thanks for asking. :) Acalamari 20:00, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Not ready
Hello again Magnus. Sorry, I got bad news. I reviewed your answers and it seems to me that you're still not ready. You should definitely read the Protection policy carefully, and keep monitoring WP:RFPP and WP:AIV to see other admins' decisions as reference. Regards, Húsönd 01:13, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
- Heh, not to worry. :-) As long as you realize what you did wrong and study some admin stuff, you're fine. Regards, Húsönd 01:20, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
- No, no, no. Very wrong conception of what a block is for, and totally wrong application of WP:IAR. Blocks are used against vandals to stop their current disruption. They are not meant to be punitive for any past misdoings. Furthermore, I should bring to your attention that a person editing with an unregistered account today may not be the same that was editing with it yesterday, thus you could be blocking an innocent person. You should know this by now, so please think carefully about it. Your RFA would without a doubt collapse if you fail to understand these notions. :-/ Regards, Húsönd 01:47, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
- Err, no. Magnus, you really are not ready yet, I'm really sorry to say. :-/ Firstly, we are not discussing the event of a "very disruptive sockpuppet of a banned user". I don't know why you brought that up, the question simply referred to an unregistered user. Secondly, WP:SNOW has no application here whatsoever. You should re-read WP:SNOW and understand what it is meant for. You need much more preparation before attempting an RFA. Please study the policies well and observe other admins' decisions as reference. Regards, Húsönd 02:02, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
- But the question about the yesterday's vandal made no reference to sockpuppets, why would you bring that up? :-/ Húsönd 02:19, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
- Magnus, your replies are becoming a spiral of clear lack of policy understanding. Please follow my advice and read WP:SNOW, see examples of WP:SNOW applications, and forget this sock theory of yours. This whole mess had nothing to do with socks. Insisting with it is not helping your case, on the contrary. Once again: 1) question #7 had nothing to do with socks, you just had to answer straight to the point, there's no need to entangle it with irrelevant situations just because I presented a negative view of your answer; 2) please try to follow my advices instead of insisting in a mistake; 3) study WP:IAR, WP:PPOL and especially, WP:SNOW. Thank you. Regards, Húsönd 02:34, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
- Patience, Magnus: being a sysop is *not* all it's cracked up to be: you get abuse to your email address, you have to deal with some borderline cases that can get you into some trouble if you make the wrong call, and you have to be able to bite your tongue and take the s#@t you will get. Above all, you need a sound policy and guidelines knowledge; and, trust me, if Husond thinks you're not ready, you're probably not ready.

Redirect tool
One could say I have a tool. First, I look for a commonly redirected to page (in this case, WW2), and I did a "what links here" on the page. Then, I copied the correct page location (World War II) and clivked on each of the links on the "what links here" page. Once I opened a page, I did ctrl+f and typed "WW2," and replaced each match accordingly. There's also a script to highlight redirect pages, so you could use that too. Now I have a question for you: what does "ZOMG" mean? :) *Cremepuff222* 01:03, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Still not ready
Magnus, you're still failing to be clear. The only thing you needed to do really was to acknowledge and understand your mistake. It's a basic procedure for improvement. This situation yesterday caused me serious doubts on your preparedness. :-/ I was going to offer to nominate you if you had some positive results on my final admin coaching requests. But sadly not only I found some serious flaws, as also your response to my thumbs-down was not the kind I would I expect in someone ready to be given access to a higher level of responsibility within Wikipedia. Should your RFA occur today, I would have to oppose it, with most bitter regret. I have not lost faith in you and I believe that you have good potential to become an admin, but not just yet. Even if you've read the policies I've asked you to and now understand their respective applications (and this is positive), you will require more time and dedication. Please follow my advice and monitor other admins as they decide whether or not to protect pages, and whether or not to block users. Read the policies. When you believe you're ready, you may ask me to review you again. Needless to say, I'll have to be quite impressed with your progress in order to be assured that the doubts risen yesterday no longer exist. I apologize for sounding so unpleasantly, but it's for your own good I believe. Don't be mad at me. Just keep up the good work and report progresses. Thank you. I've reviewed your interpretation of WP:SNOW and WP:IAR. You seem to be understanding them now. I have one reservation though. You stated "the snowball clause can only be applied after the discussion has ended". That is not accurate. Even if a discussion is just at its beginning, if you can already antecipate its certain outcome, you may invoke WP:SNOW and close it accordingly before the discussion has ended. Naturally, you must be sure of that outcome, something experienced users usually are. Regards, Húsönd 15:12, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

- You know, it would really be better -- i.e., more helpful -- if you guys learned how to communicate. What, specifically, am I asking help for that is NOT wiki related? I'd really love to know. Thanks. (JosephASpadaro 22:49, 20 May 2007 (UTC))
- How is that NOT wiki-related? Help me understand. (JosephASpadaro 23:00, 20 May 2007 (UTC))
- Oh, ok. Just so I am clear. Grammar within a Wikipedia article is NOT wiki-related? Am I clear on that? Geez, it seems like wiki has TONS of rules, naming conventions, styles, etc. But a grammar question -- for use of correct grammar within a Wiki articile -- that is NOT wiki-related? Am I understanding you correctly? And if that is the case, where does one go to find correct grammar conventions for specific use within Wiki? (JosephASpadaro 23:05, 20 May 2007 (UTC))
- Ya, exactly. So, if my grammar question is indeed wiki-related ... please go back and read your original post to me. What Help Me request of mine, specifically, is getting on any one's nerves ... and why? Thanks. (JosephASpadaro 23:11, 20 May 2007 (UTC))
- Two problems with that. #1 -- It was YOU who posted on my Talk Page that my Help Me requests are getting on someone's nerves. Why then would YOU post that on my page, if you have "no idea" about the specific request or question at issue? Please help me understand why you would (and did) do that (i.e., post your original post on my Talk Page, given that you have "no idea" about the issue at hand). And #2 -- Real96 does not answer my questions in any meaningful or helpful way. In fact, he avoids answering the questions, if anything.
- Ask me to stop WHAT? My original question was about grammar within a wiki article. So, again ... ask me to stop WHAT? And, how am I NOT being civil? Unreal ... And, by the way, you simply do as Real 96 asks, without knowing what the issue is? I am confused here ... Please advise. Thanks. (JosephASpadaro 23:26, 20 May 2007 (UTC))

Re. Hello
My guess would be yes, you'd be jumping the gun. I haven't been monitoring you in the last few days though, so tomorrow I'll make a new review and then I'll give you an honest opinion. I might as well make you new questions to verify your progress. But for now, I'll just finish reviewing a few RFAs and then I'm off to bed. :-) Best regards, Húsönd 03:13, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Oh I see. Still, perhaps you should consider expanding that answer. As I read it, I still don't find it very satisfactory and explanatory... Húsönd 02:04, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Questions
Hello. Good to know you're done. Unfortunately, I'm a little bit ill tonight, flu or something. If I get better, I'll see those answers in the next few hours. Otherwise, tomorrow. Regards, Húsönd 21:39, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
- I'm feeling better and I've reviewed your answers now. I must admit that I'm quite impressed by your progresses (congrats!). Thus, I believe that you are now prepared and I hereby offer to nominate you for adminship, should you require a nominator. However, I feel like I still need some time to monitor your progress, so this offer takes effect only on June 7th (allow a couple of weeks). Best regards, Húsönd 00:54, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
- Heh, when I say "monitor" I mean I'll be checking your recent contributions every now and then. There's just a couple of minor things I required on your coach subpage. After that, you're cleared. :-) Regards, Húsönd 01:00, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
- I'm really confused now. What do you mean with "the time in which the RfA is taking place"? Húsönd 01:28, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
- Oh I get it. You mean the time you would be able to be online during your RFA. You just need to be online once a day in order to answer any eventual questions users may ask. And that's not even an obligation, just a recommendation. Húsönd 01:45, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for making a report on Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Reporting and removing vandalism is vital to the functioning of Wikipedia and all users are encouraged to revert, warn, and report vandalism. However, administrators are generally only able to block users if they have received a recent final warning (one that mentions that the user may be blocked) and they have recently vandalized after that warning was given. The reported user has not yet been blocked because it appears this has not occurred yet. If this user continues to vandalize after their final warning, please report them to the AIV noticeboard again. Thank you. Theresa Knott | Taste the Korn 23:23, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
Vandal3 warning on User talk:74.71.131.206
User's contrib history showed only one contribution when you warned them. I think it would have been best in that case to issue a uw-1, and not jump the gun to 3. --Auto(talk / contribs) 23:24, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
