parasites

[edit]

hi, I'm the undergraduate that you talked to about a month ago about various parasites articles. I hope your trip went well. I thought you might want to take a look at the Myxobolus cerebralis page I wrote. Dave (talk) 18:58, May 6, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for helping out with whirling disease. The parts I'm having the most trouble with are the life cycle (because I have almost no background in this sort of thing) and the impact the parasite has in terms of prevalence and economic damage. I'd really appreciate any work you can do on those two issues (or anything else). Thanks in advance, Dave (talk) 19:06, May 8, 2005 (UTC)

Reverting

[edit]

When you revert on an article as you did at Time Cube, please take care to revert only what you object to. When other editors have made unrelated changes to the article, it's considered unmannerly to sweep out their edits too. I've reverted to my version, which includes edits made by three editors including myself since the version you find objectionable. Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 15:24, 8 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

minor changes

[edit]

I don't care about this, but I thought I should let you know that some people get annoyed when edits marked "minor" like these good edits to Myxosporea include more than fixing a spelling mistake. If you have edits marked as minor by default, you might want to change your settings.

Keep up the good work, though. The Myxosporea article is already far better than it was. Dave (talk) 19:41, May 9, 2005 (UTC)

Your work on these articles is great. I can't wait to see what you do with them. The "minor edits" bit only matters if someone thinks you were hiding something (especially in controversial articles, which thankfully, most parasites articles are not). Once Wikipedia stops being so abominably slow, I'll do some more work, too. Dave (talk) 22:25, May 9, 2005 (UTC)

References

[edit]

Oh. Well I just did the references, too. I'm about to test all the new links I just made. Doing them automatically is probably easier. Let me know what you think. Dave (talk) 15:43, May 11, 2005 (UTC)

Working Man's Barnstar

[edit]

Cleaning up the parasites category vis-a-vis the parasitology category has been on my mental to-do list for a while. I thought you deserved this barnstar for actually getting off your "arse" (as they call it in your country) and doing something about it, unlike me. I'm sure the repetition wasn't fun (which is why I, and everyone else put it off) and you deserve some recognition. Working with you has been a pleasure. Dave (talk) 05:18, May 12, 2005 (UTC)

I don't see any evil copyright violator, the MRC FoI terms basically say use as you please as long as you don't misrepresent us, I've tweaked the paragraph a bit and restored the page. Congrats on the paper.--nixie 00:17, 19 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for blocking that user (school?) for vandalism on Bouyancy. They were starting to do my head in! Seconds after I clicked "save", another edit would roll up the live RC page... Anilocra 18:08, 26 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. I could tell by the edit summaries you might appreciate the block :). Thue | talk 18:12, 26 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Anilocra,

Thanks for dropping a note and offering to help! An offer I hope to make you regret... :) No, let me explain. Several months ago I revamped aquarium and took it to featured status; of course I hang around to monitor edits etc. Starting about a week ago, it started getting absolutely swamped with edits concerning the collection of wild animals for the aquarium trade. As you can see from the broad scope of the aquarium article, it can really only afford to touch briefly on the topic. I spent a few days wondering what to do about these additions, which seem well intentioned (and even well referenced!), but to my mind were out of place. So today I decided, as my edit summaries state, enough is enough! I removed almost all of the new info, chucked it into a new article I named destructive fishing techniques (perhaps not the best name in the world), linked to it from aquarium, cleaned up "my" article, and was ready to leave it at that. I'm still planning on trying to parse through the new text for any particularly nice tidbits I can work into aquarium, but as far as I'm concerned I was ready to leave destructive fishing techniques to its own devices.

Honestly, dealing with referenced text that appears that quickly, that massively, makes my head hurt! :) If you want to make that into a good article, there's plenty of material there (and I'm surmising from your note, elsewhere). I'd be happy to see it develop, and would be willing to help out, although I'm not too interested in taking the lead on that project. Also, I think there must be about a dozen newbies that seemed to sign up just to write about sustainable fishing techniques and seem well intentioned. (A curious occurrence -- my only explanation is that somebody somewhere posted to a newsgroup or message board and got a bunch of newbie participants to come in and make their point en masse.) Perhaps you could roll out the welcome wagon for them and invite them to work more on that article.

I'm really pleased with the way the article turned out. I look forward to working with you in the future. Dave (talk) 18:03, May 28, 2005 (UTC)

I've had a go at tidying up what you've already written, it'd be good to add inline cites where necessary. I think the last 3 sections of the article have heaps of room for expansion, especially the contenental European response. --nixie 10:18, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Hi :-)

[edit]

Just want to say thanks for the comment on my talk page. I hope to contribute more to Wikipedia as I have the time. I see you have been working on the Lophelia pertusa article, do you know something about the distribution (I happen to be working on a mapping project in where I want to include cold corals..)?

Impersonation

[edit]

Just as I suspected, this impostor tried to impersonate you too. I've blocked both accounts indefinitely and reverted the edits AniIocra made to your userpage. - Mgm|(talk) 18:16, Jun 13, 2005 (UTC)

  • Wow, can't believe it. I blocked my fair share of impersonators. But I never got impersonated myself. Thanks for pointing it out. It's a new trick we should be aware of. - Mgm|(talk) 18:30, Jun 13, 2005 (UTC)

Myxobolus cerebralis

[edit]

Hi, The Myxobolus cerebralis article will be on the front page of Wikipedia on Monday. I thought you'd want to know in case you wanted to show it off to your friends.

I hope your laptop gets fixed. I went through the same thing a couple months ago, so I know how it feels.

You've been gone for almost a month now... I hope you're able to recover everything from your broken laptop and start wasting time with us again.

Wow... this is a long time. I hope everything works out... we still miss you. Dave (talk) 19:01, August 3, 2005 (UTC)

Welcome back. I recently managed to damage my laptop too... the week before final exams... it's hard. I hope you didn't lose too much and/or had backups (I've gotten a lot better about backups after that). I've done some sporadic work on demining, and would like it if you joined me, or we could work on something else. It's good to have you back. Dave (talk) 15:30, August 11, 2005 (UTC)
