Clean up after AfC

[edit]

Hi QuantumRealm, I'm the editor who reviewed Ben Fergusson, which you recently moved from the draftspace. I was wondering whether you were aware of some of the clean-up tasks that can be done after a draft is moved: the article lacked a short description WP:SHORTDESC, was not stub-sorted WP:STUBSORT, was put into imprecise categories (try finding the most precise categories possible), and its talk page did not have all the relevant banners. Now, none of these are necessary but I'd consider them good practice. No need to apply them to Ben Fergusson – I have taken care of that. Feel free to talk to me if you have questions. Best, Modussiccandi (talk) 21:56, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I just noticed you were enrolled in NPP school. I'm sure those things will be covered there. Happy editing, Modussiccandi (talk) 22:01, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Wikimedia previously used the IRC network Freenode. However, due to changes over who controlled the network with reports of a forceful takeover by several ex-staff members, the Wikimedia IRC Group Contacts decided to move to the new Libera Chat network. It has been reported that Wikimedia related channels on Freenode have been forcibly taken over if they pointed members to Libera. There is a migration guide and Wikimedia discussions about this.

Administrators' newsletter – July 2021

[edit]

News and updates for administrators from the past month (June 2021).

Guideline and policy news

  • Consensus has been reached to delete all books in the book namespace. There was rough consensus that the deleted books should still be available on request at WP:REFUND even after the namespace is removed.
  • An RfC is open to discuss the next steps following a trial which automatically applied pending changes to TFAs.

Technical news

  • IP addresses of unregistered users are to be hidden from everyone. There is a rough draft of how IP addresses may be shown to users who need to see them. This currently details allowing administrators, checkusers, stewards and those with a new usergroup to view the full IP address of unregistered users. Editors with at least 500 edits and an account over a year old will be able to see all but the end of the IP address in the proposal. The ability to see the IP addresses hidden behind the mask would be dependent on agreeing to not share the parts of the IP address they can see with those who do not have access to the same information. Accessing part of or the full IP address of a masked editor would also be logged. Comments on the draft are being welcomed at the talk page.

  • A motion has standardised the 500/30 (extended confirmed) restrictions placed by the Arbitration Committee. The standardised restriction is now listed in the Arbitration Committee's procedures.
  • Following the closure of the Iranian politics case, standard discretionary sanctions are authorized for all edits about, and all pages related to, post-1978 Iranian politics, broadly construed.
  • The Arbitration Committee encourages uninvolved administrators to use the discretionary sanctions procedure in topic areas where it is authorised to facilitate consensus in RfCs. This includes, but is not limited to, enforcing sectioned comments, word/diff limits and moratoriums on a particular topic from being brought in an RfC for up to a year.

Hullo QuantumRealm, in response to the reason you cited for declining the publication of the page on "Indian_National_Young_Academy_of_Science_(INYAS)", I have now added several independent third party media references which do not make a passing reference to the organization but significantly cover its activities. Do help me out in being able to figure out if my efforts have still been inadequate enough as per Wikipedia standards. Thanks a lot for looking into this.

Hi QuantumRealm. Responding to your denial of this article, I am wondering about your thoughts. This individual is a highly accomplished reporter working for BBC news who has hosted three television shows, authored a book, and has interviewed many high profile individuals. I added more references to the page. I would actually argue that she just as accomplished as Tara McKelvey - whose references are mostly dead links. Hello, Good day, contacting you concerning my draft that has been rejected for publication. I put in a lot of work and I feel it is comparable with other cryptocurrency pages such as shiba inu and safemoon. Kindly reconsider. I will update the page as the coin grows. Title of draft of Gaaxy, it is a mistake, title is actually supposed to be Galaxy Heroes Coin. Thanks for your consideration.

Hey QuantumRealm, hope you're having a great day :)

I'm not sure if this is exactly how I should contact you - but I believe this is your talk page haha!

First things first, I love your support & openness about LGBTQ+. I am also a straight male, openly supporting pride. Not enough people showing their love and it's nice you're so proud about the community - can always appreciate that!

Secondly, I am writing about a submission you rightfully declined yesterday. I am submitting this page for popular creator, Fxtch. This is in response to an agency, working with the person mentioned.. I appreciate you leaving a reason and have now updated the page, adding all relevant information. Can also confirm all information is accurate, after reaching out to them (Dylan Davies) myself.

Supporting British creators in the esports industry does a great service and I'm grateful to be here. Please let me know if you need anything else or have suggestions for improvement. Thank you!

WP:AFC Helper News

[edit]

Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.

  • AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.

Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Draft:Pennsylvania Manufacturers Association

[edit]

QuantumRealm. Thank you for reviewing and accepting the article Pennsylvania Manufacturers Association. I am a bit confused and need help. The article is still listed as "Draft:Pennsylvania Manu...." When I click on the "Move" command for the article, it tells me you "moved" the Draft:Pennsylvania Manu...." on 10 April. But there is still no article titled "Pennsylvania Manufacturers Association." I'd like to move it out of draft and into mainspace, but do not know how to accomplish this. So please Help! Hamish barebones (talk) 18:30, 18 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

QuantumRealm. I realize you're busy, but wondered if you even got this message. So, not wanting to be too much of a pest - can you help me with this issue? Thanks. Hamish barebones (talk) 14:47, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Hamish_barebones,
Thank you for reaching out to me about the "Draft:Pennsylvania Manufacturers' Association" article. I understand your confusion and concerns. I apologize for any misunderstanding that may have occurred. After further consideration, I decided to draftify the article because it requires some additional improvements and sources to meet Wikipedia's content guidelines and notability criteria.
As an experienced editor, I would recommend you to take a look at the following Wikipedia policies and guidelines for better understanding:
  • WP:N – Notability guidelines: Make sure the subject of the article meets Wikipedia's notability criteria and has received significant coverage in reliable, independent sources.
  • WP:RS – Reliable sources: Ensure that the article is well-sourced with citations from reliable and independent sources to support the information provided.
  • WP:V – Verifiability: All the information in the article should be verifiable, and any challenged or likely-to-be-challenged material must be supported by reliable sources.
  • WP:MOS – Manual of Style: Follow the Wikipedia Manual of Style for a consistent and professional presentation of the article.
To increase the chances of the article being accepted, I would suggest working on these aspects and addressing any possible issues. You may also want to seek input from other experienced editors or post your draft at the Wikipedia:Teahouse for further feedback and guidance.
Once you have made the necessary improvements, you can resubmit the article for review through the Articles for Creation process. Keep in mind that acceptance is not guaranteed, but addressing the issues I mentioned above will definitely improve the likelihood.
I hope this helps you, and I appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia. If you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Best regards,
QuantumRealm (meowpawtrack) 10:17, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
QuantumRealm. I am very confused. How did we get from: "Congratulations, and thank you for helping expand the scope of Wikipedia! We hope you will continue making quality contributions. The article has been assessed as C-Class…. This is a great rating for a new article, and places it among the top 19% of accepted submissions — kudos to you!"
To: "(the article) requires some additional improvements and sources to meet Wikipedia's content guidelines and notability criteria."
Please answer a few questions for me:
As an experienced editor, I would recommend you to take a look at the following Wikipedia policies and guidelines for better understanding:
QR: WP:N – Notability guidelines: Make sure the subject of the article meets Wikipedia's notability criteria and has received significant coverage in reliable, independent sources.
HB: Does not this apply to all articles? Can I respectfully submit that a subject is either “notable” or it is “not notable?” There is no middle ground. So there is little I can do here, except suggest that an organization that has been successfully serving the US fifth largest state’s manufacturing base for 113 years is notable? Now I have to prove it.
QR: WP:RS – Reliable sources: Ensure that the article is well-sourced with citations from reliable and independent sources to support the information provided.
HB: I can do something here like adding more citations. The article currently has 23 citations. One of those citations is from the PMA itself, explaining its organizational purpose. I am presently adding more and deleting the PMA citation and its content.
QR: WP:V – Verifiability: All the information in the article should be verifiable, and any challenged or likely-to-be-challenged material must be supported by reliable sources.
HB: All current sources for citations are verifiable. I will continue to add sources that meet this criterion.
QR: WP:MOS – Manual of Style: Follow the Wikipedia Manual of Style for a consistent and professional presentation of the article.
HB: Can you get more specific here? I’ve been editing for almost four years but took a big break during the Covid lockdowns and should be considered a new editor. I have talked to a more experienced editor and asked him to review the article. He made several suggestions on revisions, which I will make.
Final question (I promise) It took four months to get this article approved. There are now more (3,900) articles in the pending articles for creation approval queue. If I rewrite the article and it meets your approval, can you change the Draft: Article to mainspace?
Thanks for your interest and help.Hamish barebones (talk) 15:07, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Administrators' newsletter – June 2023

[edit]

News and updates for administrators from the past month (May 2023).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, editors indefinitely site-banned by community consensus will now have all rights, including sysop, removed.
  • As a part of the Wikimedia Foundation's IP Masking project, a new policy has been created that governs the access to temporary account IP addresses. An associated FAQ has been created and individual communities can increase the requirements to view temporary account IP addresses.

Technical news

  • Bot operators and tool maintainers should schedule time in the coming months to test and update their tools for the effects of IP masking. IP masking will not be deployed to any content wiki until at least October 2023 and is unlikely to be deployed to the English Wikipedia until some time in 2024.

Arbitration

  • The arbitration case World War II and the history of Jews in Poland has been closed. The topic area of Polish history during World War II (1933-1945) and the history of Jews in Poland is subject to a "reliable source consensus-required" contentious topic restriction.

Administrators' newsletter – September 2023

[edit]

News and updates for administrators from the past month (August 2023).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, TFAs will be automatically semi-protected the day before it is on the main page and through the day after.
  • A discussion at WP:VPP about revision deletion and oversight for dead names found that [s]ysops can choose to use revdel if, in their view, it's the right tool for this situation, and they need not default to oversight. But oversight could well be right where there's a particularly high risk to the person. Use your judgment.

Technical news

Arbitration

  • The SmallCat dispute case has closed. As part of the final decision, editors participating in XfD have been reminded to be careful about forming local consensus which may or may not reflect the broader community consensus. Regular closers of XfD forums were also encouraged to note when broader community discussion, or changes to policies and guidelines, would be helpful.

November Articles for creation backlog drive

[edit]

Hello QuantumRealm:

WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than 2 months outstanding reviews from the current 4+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 November 2023 through 30 November 2023.

You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.

Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.

There is a backlog of over 1100 pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:24, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Draft about videogame Zula Global

[edit]

Please, can you help me with my draft Draft:Zula Global? I don't understand why my references aren't good. Online there's nothing else besides the official website, a couple of articles, and the official Steam page of the game. Thank you <3 2001:B07:646B:5D96:118A:C8F9:AD87:FF85 (talk) 14:05, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:Oluebube Amarauche Chukwu

[edit]

Hi, trust you are well.

I am writing to know why my draft was nominated for speedy delivery as I made all the changes requested I make to this article from my previous submission. I even modeled this recent submission after Approved Wiki pages of appointed SSGs in Nigeria such as Abubakar Shehu-Abubakar, George Akume,Tammy Danagogo to name a few.

I saw you said the references were not notabe enough but they are from local news papers with active links and I can add more news references but they will still refer to Oluebube as an aide which is his current role in the government.

Awaiting your kind response. Thanks

Welcome messages

[edit]

Do you even read the contributions of IPs before you thank and welcome them to Wikipedia? This welcome to an IP for vandalizing the article about the upcoming superbowl strikes me as inappropriate. Tarl N. (discuss) 21:35, 11 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Tarl N. I'd like to address the issues you brought up. I looked back at the edit you were referring to, and I couldn't find thanks in the way you described. As part of building a positive and welcoming community, my method has been to welcome all unregistered IPs.
I get that your message on my talk page was meant to give your point of view, but it came across as a bit hostile to me. I think the best way to clear up any confusion or argument is to talk about it in an open and polite way. I am a volunteer just as you, I deserve respect and dignity. There was nothing inappropriate that I did.
If you still think my actions don't follow community standards, I'm willing to talk about this more or look into other options, such as the ANI report, to find a solution.
Thank you for letting me know about this. I look forward to continuing to work with you in a good and helpful way. QuantumRealm (meow🦁pawtrack🐾) 10:36, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry I came across as cranky, but I strongly feel that when interacting with a new user's edit, the fundamental operation an editor should perform is verify that edit is both meaningful and acceptable. By providing a welcome message and creating their talk page, you set the user's visible status to other editors as "has previously interacted with the Wikipedia Community" (no red link on the talk). That status changes the risk calculus for a bad edit - to the detriment of other reviewers. I'd ask that when you spend the seconds creating a new talk page with a welcome message, you at least look at the edit which brought them to your attention, and validate it does not itself cause problems for Wikipedia. Tarl N. (discuss) 23:29, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I acknowledge your viewpoint. However, a capable editor ought to evaluate a user based on their contributions, not by what is on their talk page. If the user is engaging in vandalism, this will be evident from their edit history. The editor's response should be based on the quality and nature of these contributions, without considering whether the user has received interactions or welcome messages on their talk page. QuantumRealm (meow🦁pawtrack🐾) 05:12, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Reverts

[edit]

If you make a revert, unless it is for vandalism, please remember to leave an edit summary explaining the reason for your revert. And please have one. This is especially important when using tools, such as rollback. You seem to be forgetting to leave such edit summaries, and be making reverts without any apparent rationale, other than “I do not like it.” 2603:7000:2101:AA00:49C4:B839:790A:579E (talk) 11:08, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

In addition, as to red links, please don’t delete them because you dislike them. Only - especially with tools - only revert their creation with an edit summary. And only when “there is no reasonable expectation that the article in question will eventually be created (either as its own article or as a redirect).” If such a reasonable expectation exists, kindly let it be. “In general, a red link should be allowed to remain in an article if it links to a term that could plausibly sustain an article, but for which there is no existing candidate article, or article section, under any name.” In accordance w our rules. You have been reverting red links to what are clearly plausible articles - books by a notable author for example. 2603:7000:2101:AA00:49C4:B839:790A:579E (talk) 11:24, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

"Ami Dror"

[edit]

Draft:Ami Dror

As Israeli, I find it absurde that the English page about this person is defined by you as "not sufficiently notable for inclusion in Wikipedia.". Dror is one of the key leaders in Israel, Personaly I'm part of a comunitry of close to 100,000 people that follow him daily on his whatsapp groups. (check is social media) - he is being quated and interviewed almost every day etc etc. https://x.com/faniaoz/status/1771595428573712817?s=20

I edited parts that were wrong, and this page need to be restored ASAP as it makes Wikipedia looks like a political tool which tries to hide the people that are working to change the Israeli goverment.
