Refspamming

Wikipedia is not a vehicle for promotion. See WP:PROMO. People who abuse their editing privileges to promote anyone or anything - be that some video game or the work of some scholar -- lose their editing privileges.

Persistent spammers may have their websites blacklisted, preventing anyone from linking to them from all Wikimedia sites as well as potentially being penalized by search engines.
