Joanne Gair images

[edit]

I got your message claiming to be a close friend of Ms. Joanne Gair's. I have attempted to communicate with Ms. Gair in the past. WP is not a place to promote your newest works. Thus, the fact that the image you would like to add is newer does not necessarily make it the image that is preferable. I saw that the article about the subject of the image has been declined at WP:AFC. In my past communications with Ms. Gair, I have requested her permission to release the copyright to a photo of herself for use on WP. She has not responded. If you could get her to release the copyright of images that you would like to add that would make them preferable for use on WP. WP:NFCC is a tremendously important wikipedia policy guideline that limits the use of copyrighted images in WP articles to those necessary to educate the reader without diminishing the value of the works to the copyright owner. Let me know how I can explain this more clearly to you if you have any further issues.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 01:25, 23 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

An image copyright like the image that you proposed adding probably has 3 copyrights. The subject, the artist and the photographer (Although Jo may be the photographer). I don't really consider it important to have the Taro Gold image that you suggest. It is a much more challenging work of art for the reader. The reader has to work to see the art and what Jo did. The Kelis artwork is much more front and center for the reader. That is why I think it is better. If you can obtain proper consent, however, a copyright free image is preferable to an image used under a fair use claim. I would suggest that you communicate with the Wikipedia:Volunteer Response Team regarding presenting proper consent. Basically, we would benefit from any picture that adequately represents Joanne Gair's person. There was one that she had included on her website, but it may be better if we had one that is not published elsewhere so that the copyright release is less muddled.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 03:59, 23 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:
