Please don't delete
Hi Andy, I am participant of "Beacon of Theology 2011" competition from Jakarta Theological Seminary, Indonesia. The competition requires an interwiki to other language. I made the article James L. Fredericks in Bahasa Indonesia, and I didn't find any articles about James L. Fredericks in English, or other languages I know. So, I made the article in English, and I think that the article have reliable sources. But if you want to delete it, please do it after 6 May, because the competition will end after 6 May. I am very grateful for your understanding. PT64Theodorus (talk) 15:00, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry, but all articles in wikipedia must be properly sourced, especially those about living people. Wikipedia is not a place for competition entries! andy (talk) 15:21, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
Egmont (media group)
Hey Andy can you tell why the wiki site Egmont (media group) should be deleted?
The intent of the page is to be purely facts about Egmont, and not misguiding as the Egmont Publishing is at the moment. I'm looking forward to hear your reply Pbrun —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pbrun (talk • contribs) 12:47, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
- This is nothing to do with me. However, wikipedia policy is that wherever possible you should fix articles and extend them rather than create new articles that have a substantial overlap. andy (talk) 13:24, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
- First of thanks for your quick reply. The issue about to many pages seem reasonable... Since I cannot change the heading of Egmont Publishing to Egmont media group, I have merged it into the Egmont media group wikipage, The Egmont Publishing page can therefore be deleted, would this be the right way to handle this issue? Pbrun (talk • contribs) —Preceding undated comment added 13:37, 28 April 2011 (UTC).
- You've got it back to front. Egmont Publishing is the main article - created first, most material - so you must work with that article. It's perfectly possible to change an article's title by moving it but this is a big thing, and given the very clumsy way you have been working on your articles I would strongly recommend that you discuss it first on the Egmont Publishing talk page and perhaps ask an admin to advise you. andy (talk) 14:41, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Emerito P. Nacpil
Hello Andyjsmith. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Emerito P. Nacpil, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: The existence of sources, even if I can't check them, really means I can't delete under A7. Needs to go to AfD for a wider audience to check the sources. . Thank you. GedUK 09:47, 7 May 2011 (UTC)

Ocean*Transfer
Hi, You've deleted the page I created about the Boston Band (Ocean*Transfer), the link is below. I am new to Wikipedia, but I've looked at a ton of different band profiles, and I do not see any difference between the writing that I have done, and the depictions of other bands. What is my article missing? Thanks so much for your help, I appreciate it. http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User_talk:Sousabr#Ocean.2ATransfer -Brian —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sousabr (talk • contribs) 22:31, 8 May 2011 (UTC)
- I didn't delete it - I'm not an administrator. Click on the article's title on your talk page to see who deleted it. As for the reasons they're made clear in the notice on your talk page - the article "does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia." There's a link where you can find out more about what this means. andy (talk) 09:53, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
History merge
Hi. Correct me if I'm reading the histories wrong but when you created Oxford Abstracts, you simply copy-pasted the content from the draft User:Andyjsmith/Oxford Abstracts Ltd. That's fine but to preserve the full sequence in one place, histories should be merged. Cheers, Pichpich (talk) 19:17, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

You tagged Cyber supply chain assurance as a G12 of http://www.i-policy.org/2011/05/international-strategy-for-cyberspace.html but I'm not seeing it. Am I missing something?--SPhilbrickT 10:34, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
- It's cobbled together from copyvios of various sources. The one I cited is the paragraph beginning "As never before, information technology is fostering transnational dialog" andy (talk) 10:38, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
- Actually I now realise that material is public domain! I'll remove the speedy. andy (talk) 10:41, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Troy Dean Harris
Hello Andyjsmith. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Troy Dean Harris, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Author has not requested deletion, or other users have added substantial content. Thank you. Courcelles 14:26, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
- It's the second one here. Too many people have edited that article to delete it under G7. Courcelles 14:26, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
- The only other editors who did more than just tagging or minor edits are User:Kavipadma who is almost certainly a puppet based on his edit history, and User:Lecheminlu who was responsible for a previous copyvio version of the article and whose work on this article was immediately removed by the author. However, them's the rules. andy (talk) 14:52, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
The author keeps deleting the AfD tag. I'm just going to wait until the ban goes through (I reported him to AIAV) before I revert again. Inks.LWC (talk) 08:08, 6 June 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks. andy (talk) 08:29, 6 June 2011 (UTC)

Canvassing
Hi; could I remind you that campaigning is not allowed on Wikipedia. As our policy on canvassing establishes, "Campaigning is an attempt to sway the person reading the message, conveyed through the use of tone, wording, or intent." Thanks. ╟─TreasuryTag►Counsellor of State─╢ 14:43, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
- Actually, the policy has very little to say about off-AFD discussions between individuals. The policy links to the article on canvassing which defines it as something that is "systematic" and relating to a "target group", and the policy makes it clear that this is all about trying to influence the outcome of a debate. I'm surprised you took the trouble to stalk me, but if you had read the discussion between myself and Sarek in a less jaundiced manner you'd have seen that I asked for his opinion, acted on it and improved the article, as a result of which he changed his mind. As an experienced administrator (which is why I sought his opinion) I doubt very much if I could have swayed him! andy (talk) 15:05, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Before saving your changes to an article, please provide an edit summary for your edits. Doing so helps everyone understand the intention of your edit (and prevents legitimate edits from being mistaken for vandalism). It is also helpful to users reading the edit history of the page. Thank you.

Root squash article
I think your actions are too fast. This was surely not a promotional article, I fairly wanted to contribute content that I see as valuable and it was not just a sentence or two. Actions like this sets the contributors highly negatively, interfering with Wikipedia goals. Audriusa (talk) 12:02, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
- I didn't say it was promotional. I said it lacked context - the average user would be unable to understand what it was about or do any further research on the topic. andy (talk) 12:04, 27 June 2011 (UTC)

Outing
I know that you are trying to maintain integrity on an article while dealing with an editor that has a COI, but please note that delving out personal information is in violation of WP:OUTING. I've deleted the edits in violation and adjusted your comments accordingly. Please be very careful how you move forward about this. Claiming a COI is OK, saying who it is is not. If you have any questions let me know. --Shirik (Questions or Comments?) 20:59, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
- I disagree. "Posting another editor's personal information is harassment, unless that person voluntarily had posted his or her own information, or links to such information, on Wikipedia" - well, he posted such a link. andy (talk) 21:20, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
MA in philosophy = expert in physics?
dearest andy, this is your first comment copied-pasted: "Utter drivel. Fails WP:FRINGE. Oddly enough no reliable sources either." and your latter comment: "Please do not try to use wikipedia to promote fringe theories." and from your own user page: "This user has a Master of Arts degree in Philosophy." .. i was wondering, how does having an MA in philosophy allow you to be an expert on 'fringe theories' in physics? .. just wondering.. another thing, it's not fringe - it's actually conservative .. but i guess you wouldn't know that with an MA in philosophy.. what else, your behavior toward my article would be considered 'trolling' on other forums.. so dare i label you a troll since you seem inclined to label me 'fringe'? ^^ labels are not very productive especially when they're inaccurate.. if i were you, i would consult some experts about what is considered fringe in physics.. ..just a suggestion for your future reference..&Delta (talk) 23:50, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

If we can have this John Elway Stadium, notable only for being named after a legendary football star who went to the high school it was built for two whole years, I fail to see how she fails the criteria. I think you are asking too much quantitatively and failing to see the matter qualitatively.--Cerejota (talk) 01:06, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

- "Establishment of Notability: Notability is more difficult to establish in non-Anglophone topics because of a lack of English sources and no incentive among anglophone participants to find sources in the native language of the topic. A lack of native language editors of the topic only compounds the problems. Dear Andy
Dear Andy, Thank you very much for Your hard work regarding editing and filtering out rubbish "wiki" articles. I appreciate Your contribution into it. I am sorry that I have not had time before to discuss with You all these things. I am gonna have to say that first of all, I find some Your comments rather offending especially Your words "wild speculations"and "apparently feasible, if somewhat dodgy, proposed technology". I am the creator of all topics related to Alexander Mayboroda and his amazing inventions etc etc. Being humble and meek Alexander Mayboroda did not want me (I am his well-wisher) to put this up on Wikipedia, but i insisted on it for a number of reasons. First of all, one has to be qualified to judge whether a technology is applicable or not whether it is dodgy or not. I appreciate Your interest in space related topics but ARE YOU QUALIFIED TO MAKE THIS TYPE OF JUDGMENT? Alexander Mayboroda has been granted two patents by WHOM? by he Russian Federal Service for Intellectual Property, Patents and Trademarks. Marwick was granted patents by the American Authorities...Just to let You know (if You ask me) that Russia has been number one in terms of space stuff. So are You saying that You know more than the russian space authorities who grant patents? If so. God bless You...I dont believe You. If you are saying that it is all rubbish...Can You give me Your calculations refuting the numbers given in Mayboroda's projects? Would You mind providing me with a verifiable scheme of calculations that confirm that all this is a wild speculation? Of course, You are not gonna do so. It is simpler to say ..Oh...it's all rubbish..to hell with it..I cant get it..it is not possible...let's get it deleted...and so forth.. Secondly, if You know nothing about Marwick and Demetriades I feel sorry for You...Please, read 1.Demetriades S.T. et al. The use of atmospherie and extraterre strial resources in space propulsion system. Electric propulsion conference, March 1962. Calif. Northrop Space Laboratories 2. Demetriades S.T.J. Brit. Well, almost non-rocket… Tehnika Molodezhi No 07/2011
Please, talk with Mr Freeman Dyson, Mr Louis Friedman, friends of Mr O'Neill?. Are Your familiar with these names? If not, well....
Please, let me also know where I can lodge a complaint against Your rude behavior and Your strong comments undermining the whole meaning of Wikipedia. I would also like to complaint against laziness of some other people who although do not want to figure out how wipo web-site works, however, make very bold statements...or just because they do not know the original language of an article they claim it to be false...Is this democracy? Those people live in Germany (a "democratic" country ) and they do not show any respect to the main principal of democracy which is the presumption of innocence. Please, kindly note that the article about Accumulating space device (ASD) has not been finished yet and needs citations...I have tried to put citations but it did not work for some reason..maybe you have already blocked me..
Anyway Thank You for reading this.
Your humble servant

E-book device use on airliners
I was surprised that you reverted my contribution. I think it is a well known fact that the use of electrical devices are disallowed during takeoff and landing. Using Wikipedia for advertising or promotion.
Dear Andy,
Thank you for your comments however I am confused can you please help me meet you criteria for a good wikipedia page. I have always tried to maintain integrity on this page and I do not want nor intend to use Wikipedia as advertising just a record of my exhibition, achievements and charity donations.
Regarding meeting notability criteria,
I am the only Visual Artist / photographer to exhibit at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show to date with a concept garden dedicated to their work. I am the only UK based Visual Artist / photographer producing work at sizes up to 10' x 5' My charitable donations total £30,000 GBP the in particular The Children’s Acute Transport Service donation in June of this year was their largest single donation nearly £13,000 GBP and came from the sale of one photograph. I can provide proof of all donations if you need them. The Marie Curie Cancer Care Auction at The Royal Academy of Arts 2011 which was by Invitation saw my work appear alongside Barbara Rae, Sara Rossberg, Prof Ken Howard, Prof Chris Orr, Mary Fedden, Damien Hirst, Dame Elizabeth Blackadder and Sir Hugh Casson most of whom have Wikipidea pages of their own.. The PhotoVoice Auction of Exceptional Photographs 2010 which was by Invitation saw my work appear alongside top contemporary photographers most of whom have Wikipedia pages of their own. I am the only landscape photographer to have had two west end solo shows ever. These are not self funded show but curated shows by a gallery with a 30 year pedigree. At my 2009 solo show I produced the largest picture of it's kind ever finished in the UK. At my 2011 solo show I produced the first ever circular pictures of there kind. I am the only Irish born photographer to exhibit at Art London, London Art Fair and Affordable Art fair in the same year, other than Frieze these are the top Art Fairs of their kind in the UK and are Highly vetted. This year will be my fourth taking part in most of these fairs My sold out works are equivalent to half a million pounds worth of retail sales and it is only a matter of time before my work appears on the secondary market trough private auctions and in this context I feel it is important to list them.
Again I don't understand why you have deleted recent links on charity websites I have indeed donated the proceeds of my work to them and I had included links to Justgiving.com website where you can see the actual donations made.
Regarding awards - the information there is all correct, I understand some come under Shortlisted or Finalist but I think these statements are clear and I can provide proof of awards if you need them.
Best wishes
I look forward to your comments
David

- First of all, you should not be creating articles about yourself - see WP:COI. And secondly, it's not enough that references should be true, they should also be important. Wikipedia policy states that "information cannot be included solely for being true or useful" - see WP:NOT. andy (talk) 20:15, 4 August 2011 (UTC)
Thank you for the pointers, aside from creating the page myself which was a misunderstanding on my part, do you not agree in the context of Art / Photography and charity fundraising a lot of these achievements are important.
You deleted a link back on 'Marie Curie Cancer Care' ! Having my work included along side Damien Hirst and Sir Hugh Casson at the The Royal Academy which is the ultimate art institution in the UK if not the world. Having been involved with them I am now working with them to use my work in the recently commissioned Solihull Hospice. Lady Cotton, Specialist Projects Leader has personally asked me because she can see the difference to patients my work can make. Again to consider my artwork in the context of Complementary therapy is again important not only to the Art world but anyone suffering from cancer/terminal illness.
Similarly you called links on The Children’s Acute Transport Service 'self promotion' this was their largest single donation nearly £13,000 GBP and came from the sale of one photograph. Surely this is important information and not self promotion as you say?
In fact all the links on the charity pages were provided as my page was considered orphan because I wasn't linked back to by other Wikipedia pages it is my contention that these links are valid and should stand?
I have stated my case in my previous message and again here, if you still think I don't deserve a mention on Wikipedia then delete away.
Have a nice weekend
David

- It's not a question of deleting for the sake of deleting. Wikipedia has policies and guidelines. I mentioned two of them above. As for self promotion what could be clearer? You wrote the main article about yourself and you edited articles to inform people about what you'd done. In fact you added this material in several articles where it was not relevant to the main purpose of the article. andy (talk) 11:10, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

- Because there is no way that reference counts as a reliable source and in my view was also quite possibly inserted as a spam link. andy (talk) 09:38, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
Thank you. I understand... Re: Reliability of Source. The source itself references to a reliable source, which is the book by Pinson, Linda. (2004). Anatomy of a Business Plan: A Step-by-Step Guide to Building a Business and Securing Your Company’s Future (6th Edition). Page 20. Dearborn Trade: Chicago, USA. I presume that hence the source is reliable, but otherwise the book by Pinson Linda must count as a reliable source, in which case I wonder if her book details could be put as the source in that edit entry? Your advice? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.182.132.148 (talk) 10:07, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

- I've never tried it, but obviously this one didn't! After it's deleted, why not ask the deleting admin for advice - I'm not a wikipedia pointyhead. andy (talk) 17:07, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
proposed deletion
Andy, you have proposed to delete the page describing the Human Services-Board Certified Practitioner credential due to lack of backing. If you would read further through the site you will find that this credential was created (and is backed) by the two most prominent Human Services associations and the Center for Credentialing and Education which holds several independent credentials and is overseen by the National Board for Certified Counselors. Each of these Human Services bodies have pages or links to the HS-BCP credential site and the board members of both bodies hold this credential. These are the most prominent bodies in the Human Services field. I'm not sure that better backing exists.Jay Ostrowski, MA, LPC/S, NCC 17:07, 11 August 2011 (UTC)Jay Ostrowski, MA, LPC/S, NCC — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jayostrowskiwiki (talk • contribs)
- The page is an acronym soup, but I don't see any reliable sources there per WP:EL. It's also quite obviously promotional. I'll leave it for the time being in the hope that it will improve. andy (talk) 17:23, 11 August 2011 (UTC)
Rossi Firearms
Why did you delete my post on Rossi Firearms, nobody posted anything so I just added some info to cover a bit of the background. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wung97 (talk • contribs) 23:50, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
- I didn't delete it, but in any case it was a clear breach of copyright. andy (talk) 08:09, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion contested: Andrew Strom
Hello Andyjsmith. I am just letting you know that I contested the speedy deletion of Andrew Strom, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Article claims importance/significance of the subject. Thank you. Steven Zhang The clock is ticking.... 10:40, 18 August 2011 (UTC)
- Fair enough. andy (talk) 16:00, 18 August 2011 (UTC)
Ritz's equation
Hello Andyjsmith. I think that this article should remain. I'll be finished editing it in a day or two, and Ritz's equation is referenced by at least two other articles Gravitation and Walther Ritz. Thanks. Ryan.vilbig (talk) 23:58, 18 August 2011 (UTC)
- Sounds OK to me. andy (talk) 13:33, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

Contest for 'Hair Thinning'
Hi Andy,
Thank you for your guidance about my recent Wikipedia entry: ‘Hair Thinning’ and your advice on contestations.
My article is a response to the growth of ‘thinning hair’ as a term and a topic, both in the United States and increasingly elsewhere. This is clearly evident in Google search results and forums such as Yahoo Answers, where users are openly discussing ‘hair thinning’ as opposed to just ‘baldness’. I feel there’s a need to help users searching for the term online and direct them to useful information.
‘Baldness’ and ‘hair thinning’, although related, are distinct subjects, with the latter being a subcategory within the former. People experiencing thinning are not necessarily ‘balding’, and accordingly, the ‘hair thinning’ article highlights information omitted within ‘baldness’, such as the effect of lifestyle, medications and scalp hygiene, and the early-warning signs to look out for.
However, I appreciate that my article may not have made this distinction clear enough, and have revised it to include a new section: ‘Types of Hair Thinning’, taking care to avoid any overlap with baldness and include only necessary and new information (including telogen effluvium and other types of alopecia omitted from ‘baldness’).
I would welcome your recommendations for further revisions to the ‘hair thinning’ article in order to make it fit for publishing on Wikipedia.
Many thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Usr01020304 (talk • contribs) 12:53, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
- I'm not an expert (although my hair is thinning) but IMHO you should be incorporating this material into Baldness as far as possible. There's already lots of related material there, and related articles such as Management of baldness. I don't see why we need a separate article. andy (talk) 13:32, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
