Irish Cup 1881-82
[edit]The citation at footnote 4 at 1881–82 Irish Cup does not appear to support the statement that Castlederg did not turn up. I looked at page 6 of the Belfast News-Letter of 24 April 1882 and could not find anything. I couldn't see anything elsewhere in that edition either. Can you look into this? - I don't have access to the originally cited source so can't check, but I've updated the article with another source. Andygray110 (talk) 01:04, 6 December 2024 (UTC)

NIFL Premiership players category
[edit]Hello. I've noticed you adding the category to a number of players on my watchlist, and there's nothing in many of the articles to justify it. E.g Albert Brallisford "spent a brief spell in Northern Ireland with Glentoran" but nothing to say if he played for them and what in. Was wondering what source you were using? cheers, Struway2 (talk) 21:59, 12 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hi there. I have been aiming to add according to article sources but I have added a lot and concede there may be some where I have relied on the prose/infobox. Do you have a list of questionable ones? Happy to remove again if the category is inappropriate. Agree the Brallisford one should not have the cat and at the very least there should be a CN tag on the prose. Andygray110 (talk) 22:13, 12 January 2025 (UTC)
- As a secondary point, on my to-do list is to curate each player within the above category. If they have no source for inclusion in that category, they'll be removed (and that should capture any I may have added in error). Andygray110 (talk) 22:58, 12 January 2025 (UTC)
- Perhaps I'm too picky when it comes to adding league categories without an explicit source, and spoilt by the ease (these days!) of checking whether a given player actually took the field in the English Football League rather than just being contracted to a club that played in it. And unlucky in picking Brallisford as the first one I actually checked – there are book sources to say he spent time there, but I haven't yet found anything contemporary.
- I've been having a proper look at some of the others this morning, and I don't really have any issues with your addition of the category. There are some, like Bill Purves, Paddy McConville, Maurice McLafferty, Paddy McIlvenny (footballer, born 1924), who were at Irish League clubs long enough that it'd be irrational to assume they didn't play league football; and generally speaking, it's possible to find contemporary newspaper sources to prove it which I can add to the relevant articles. One thing I've found out through checking some of these is that Arthur Leonard actually played for the Irish League representative XI, more than once, which I'll add to his article later. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 13:10, 13 January 2025 (UTC)
