No Cerberus in popular culture? Oh well, was hoping I might see it. Mathmo Talk 06:45, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oops, never mind... they are just links to AfDs, thought they were userpages. Mathmo Talk 06:46, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

Just what do you intend to do with your vast store of userfied trivia? --Eyrian 15:06, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

Can't answer for him.... but I presume improve it. Obviously the opposite alternative is to "deimprove" ("make worse") it would just be silly. Mathmo Talk 20:21, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
A glib answer. And not particularly useful. I just wanted to make the caution that trivia sourced to the primary source in which it occurs is still trivia. --Eyrian 20:36, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
You are either using circular logical or avoiding precisely defining the term. Because obviously not everything that is sourced to primary sources is trivia. Mathmo Talk 00:59, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You're misguided. I've noticed that some people think that mentioning the details of the work that trivia occurs in (i.e. listing the primary source) constitutes sourcing. I merely wished to disabuse any observers of that notion. --Eyrian 01:39, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
It is one form of sourcing, of which we use a range on wikipedia. But that is quite tangential. The main point of this is that you are missing the fact what is and what is not "trivia", is very much a person's own POV. Mathmo Talk 01:51, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good source for academic papers

[edit]

A good place for sourced discussion and commentary is The Journal of Popular Culture. From this page, we can see that it has been published since 1967. There is a free issue available at the moment to those who don't have a subscription to back issues (like me). It is the February 2007 issue. It has an example of Harry Potter and the Functions of Popular Culture. (Warning: after a certain time has elapsed, this 'free' issue will likely become 'subscribers only' again). Andy, would you like to add this to the main page so people wanting to improve the article can try using it. It should be possible for people to at least point to the existence of a paper on the subject, even if they can't read the paper itself. And of course, trivia lists still have to go. Question

[edit]

Is it okay for other editors to edit these articles in your userspace? If so, let me know as I would be happy to help find sources. Also, I hope you are having a nice break! :) Sincerely, --Le Grand Roi des CitrouillesTally-ho! 00:13, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting

[edit]

This page is an interesting artifact. It's encouraging how you've been able to salvage material. I think some of these might even become articles again one day (the astronomical names, for example, seems to have potential). Cool Hand Luke 06:49, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
