Why this page

[edit]

There have been several RMs recently in which the target was either a sub or super set of the existing title.

ISTM that we generally prefer the shorter title, but either I'm mistaken in this or the guidelines need a tweak. So let us investigate the current guidelines and some recent RMs and see whether they match.

In particular, it's often claimed that the longer title is more common than the shorter. This seems to me to be logically impossible. Andrewa (talk) 18:23, 16 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Some examples

[edit]

Let It All Hang Out is a shorter version of Let It Out (Let It All Hang Out) but the article is currently at the longer version, the shorter redirects there.

Talk:Beauty and the Beast: Belle's Magical World#Requested move is about shortening the title... in progress as I write and the case that inspired this page.

More to follow. Andrewa (talk) 23:18, 16 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
