Notability

[edit]

Someone has just added the notability tag to this article. To explain this, the point is that it is not enough just to be published and interviewed. An author really needs to have been talked about, or produced some significant work in a genre etc. WP:AUTHOR gives the detail. - Sitush (talk) 08:57, 5 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. References are weak. Keep digging. Google news archives. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 09:02, 5 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'll paste what I can find here. No promises on the quality.
  • That wouldn't be usable as it's just a listing on her publisher's site. It'd be considered primary at best and since the site's author page for Singh is already an external link at the bottom, there's really no need to have it elsewhere in the article.Tokyogirl79 (talk) 09:07, 5 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I know. I just couldn't find anything else. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 09:12, 5 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Wow. Slim pickin's. All I found were the Rashmi Singhs: "fake sting" girl, and some woman whose husband is a really good skydiver. I wouldn't be surprised if this article ends up at AfD. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 09:10, 5 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The problem is, all authors are encouraged to give interviews to promote their books etc. It is self-interest. To be honest, in a lot of cases the "interviews" do not even really happen: they are cobbled up from press releases (I am not suggesting that this is the case here). - Sitush (talk) 09:37, 5 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It maybe the case but her books too are so widely found. Taming the restless mind is in world cat and Love's Journey with Powell's etc. We should encourage good writers like her andnot wait for Rome to be made:) She is notable no doubt and I really respect you all for creating this article. • The big problem with that argument is that Wikipedia does not consider popularity to be an argument for notability as far as authors are concerned. Even with the one area where it can be usable (bands/singers/actors), it's implied that if someone has notability enough to have a sizable fanbase then they would have the sources to back it up. It's kind of frustrating at times because, as Sitush mentioned on my talk page, it's so hard to find sources for literary books because they're not taken as seriously as the non-fiction books usually are. I've had multiple instances where popular authors were deleted because they didn't get enough coverage to make Wikipedia happy.Tokyogirl79 (talk) 09:56, 5 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. I understand. But lets wait others may addAnanyaprasad (talk) 10:08, 5 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have seen what Sitush has written- and it is so true. In India authors in general are not given enough or rather no coverage as they give to actors and cricketers or Politicians. And that too a woman writer ! They always suffer Ananyaprasad (talk) 10:16, 5 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
