Speedy deletion nomination of Emsisoft
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Emsisoft, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. —Largo Plazo (talk) 21:38, 24 November 2015 (UTC)
@Largoplazo: I included my reasoning WP:GNG, WP:COMPANY for keeping Emsisoft on the article discussion page. You deleted the article without any discussion. Was I doing something wrong? Respectfully Ana-4-fun (talk) 15:46, 26 November 2015 (UTC)
- Typically the administrator who comes upon the deletion request reviews anything you may have written in the way of a dispute and considers it in deciding whether to go ahead with the deletion or remove the request. I don't remember whether I saw what you wrote, but I do remember that the article was written in quite a promotional manner. Wikipedia articles are for providing information about things, not for drawing attention to them or playing them up. —Largo Plazo (talk) 16:58, 26 November 2015 (UTC)
- @Largoplazo: So fixing the manner should fix the situation with this article? Can I try to re-publish it with a more balanced perspective? I didn't finish the Criticism paragraph when I hit Save changes, probably it was worth adding this section initially?Ana-4-fun (talk) 17:06, 26 November 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, you may. Though a criticism paragraph won't help if the rest of the article is written in a promotional tone. Then it will look like a puff piece with a perfunctory criticism section thrown into try to evade deletion. There's a difference between giving well-sourced information about a company that's delivered neutrally even though it may include positive attributes of the company while not omitting negative ones, and giving information delivered in an "isn't this amazing?" note. See the page on writing with a neutral point of view. —Largo Plazo (talk) 17:21, 26 November 2015 (UTC)
- @Largoplazo: Thank you for your advice on how to improve the article. I edited it accordingly before republishing it. Your comments welcome Ana-4-fun (talk) 21:25, 26 November 2015 (UTC)

[edit]First, please read WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. Second, please read WP:SPAM. Advertising and promotion are not allowed on Wikipedia, and material that looks like promotion is treated as promotion no matter what the poster's intention. Third, if you work for the company, you should read WP:COI. If you do work for them or for an outside agency contracted to them, you should read WP:TOU - our terms of use. The relevant bit is that paid editing MUST be declared. Peridon (talk) 22:22, 24 November 2015 (UTC)
@Peridon: I read both articles and included my reasoning WP:GNG, WP:COMPANY on the Emsisoft article discussion page. I wonder why the article was silently deleted? Was I doing something wrong? Ana-4-fun (talk) 15:38, 26 November 2015 (UTC)
- WP:GNG and WP:COMPANY cover notability. Yes, the topics of articles must be notable. The rationale for deleting the article you'd written isn't that the company isn't notable but that the article was promotional. Microsoft is notable. "Microsoft creates operating systems" is neutral. "Microsoft's operating systems have features that give them the edge over others, such as ..." is promotional. —Largo Plazo (talk) 17:01, 26 November 2015 (UTC)
