Awesome, I will revert myself! Cheers! Scapler (talk) 01:41, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there,

Thanks for adding a fair use rationale to the article. However, it looks like you just copied and pasted the existing rationale and changed the article title. The reason you gave for including the image in Fall of Saigon is:

It is used to identify the image in the section As it happens of the article Fall of Saigon, which deals with this photograph itself as its primary topic of encyclopedic discussion. The article discusses the creation of this photograph and its historical public impact.

There are a few issues here:

  1. There is no "As it happens" section in the article
  2. The photo itself is never the subject of any discussion, let alone the primary topic.

Can you give a better explanation for why this specific image is needed in this specific article? There are some guidelines here. Let me know if I can help. Papa November (talk) 15:49, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. To make a fair use rationale, you really just need to answer the following questions on the image description page:
  1. Which article do you want to use the image in?
  2. Why does the reader need to see that specific picture in that specific article? What educational point is it putting across?
  3. Why couldn't you use a freely licensed alternative?
  4. Have you used the smallest possible portion of the image, and the lowest possible resolution? If not, why not?
If you need any help with FURs in future, let me know. Thanks, Papa November (talk) 18:28, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fall of Saigon

[edit]

The U.S. was a belligerent. Cheers. Sea888 (talk) 02:37, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sources are provided on this page, belligerent. Sea888 (talk) 21:19, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You are mistaken because it says belligerent in the infobox. By definition to internationl laws of war, a belligerent country is different from a neutral country, but can include combatant, non combatant, or special combatant etc. A non belligerent country that aides a belligerent is also considered a belligerent but not a combatant since there isn't direct fighting involved. Yet the non belligerent becomes a belligerent by use of military aid which was what happened. Again the infobox list is for belligerents not just combatants exclusively. I DO NOT have to provide a source. By DEFINITION according to Hague of 1907. Please do not change it again. Cheers.Sea888 (talk) 03:58, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
In war a country that was a belligerent in the beginning(meaning heavily involved in the war) that becomes a non combatant(removal of combative troops, or having support troops) the country is to abide by international laws of war, Hague 1907. When the U.S. aided the evacuation with troops(non combatant) and logistics(equipment, helicopters, radio, phone, material, time, energy, money) the non combatant(United States) is STILL involved in the war. Thus Belligerent is different from combatant in that way. With this there is also ONE more important thing, A belligerent country if having military aid or personel in the hostile country(territory fighting over) the belligerent must have a COMMANDER in charge. Otherwise it could be defined as a group of spies or terrorists etc. During the Fall of Saigon the military aid and personel were under direct orders from Gerald Ford, commander in chief of the United States Military. Hope that helps. By definition, I shouldn't have to give any sources.Sea888 (talk) 04:07, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe you should add the U.S. and Soviet. A belligerent can have combatants or non combantants basically that's what it is. Combatants would mean there are troops on the ground, non combatants would mean there isn't any. But a belligerent can have both. CheersSea888 (talk) 04:36, 26 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
There are abundant sources on what a belligerent is. Just look around.Sea888 (talk) 21:44, 26 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

SECTION I ON BELLIGERENTS

CHAPTER I The qualifications of belligerents(Hague 1907)

Article 1. The laws, rights, and duties of war apply not only to armies, but also to militia and volunteer corps fulfilling the following conditions:

1. To be commanded by a person responsible for his subordinates;

2. To have a fixed distinctive emblem recognizable at a distance;

3. To carry arms openly; and

4. To conduct their operations in accordance with the laws and customs of war. In countries where militia or volunteer corps constitute the army, or form part of it, they are included under the denomination "army."

Art. 2. The inhabitants of a territory which has not been occupied, who, on the approach of the enemy, spontaneously take up arms to resist the invading troops without having had time to organize themselves in accordance with Article 1, shall be regarded as belligerents if they carry arms openly and if they respect the laws and customs of war.

Art. 3. The armed forces of the belligerent parties may consist of combatants and non-combatants. In the case of capture by the enemy, both have a right to be treated as prisoners of war.

Reuqest of translation for Campora San Giovanni in Chinese and Vietnamese

Dear Amore Mio, writes if kindly you would adjourn the article in Chinese, or to adjourn him/it and to lengthen it a few with the notions that I have added me in English. Then if you could do me the favor, always and however kindly speaking if you can translate it in Vietnamese. This because in the territory two stupendous communities live Chinese and Vietnamese, well integrated. In to See the town that entertains them in their language it would be also nice on our behalf, to show to her relatives that live in China and Vietnam that their darlings famigliari they are happy and they live a life in these places. If you will do me this favor I will obviously reciprocate and prestamente (study allowing). I am experienced in biographies and geographies, I can translate in Italian and his dialects you launch (Sicilian, Neapolitan. Hi, do you still live in Vietnam? If yes, please help me to check the origin of Trần Thừa from another source, in Đại Việt sử kí toàn thư Ngô Sĩ Liên wrote in Cao Tông Hoàng Đế: "Crown Prince went to Lưu Gia village..." (p. 153, e-book version) which means Trần Thừa came from Lưu Gia village (now Lưu Xá, Hưng Hà, Thái Bình) while in Thái Tông Hoàng Đế it was read: "Trần Kinh went to Tức Mặc, Thiên Trường,..." (p. 159, e-book version) which means Trần Thừa came from hương (district?) Tức Mặc (now Tức Mặc, Mỹ Lộc, Nam Định). Trần Trọng Kim's work is complicated too (p. 47, e-book version). I think (but not sure) that Trần Lý (Trần Thừa's father) was really from Tức Mặc but he moved the family to Lưu Gia? If you have time, please help me to check it out.
One word about Nghệ Tông, in A history of Vietnam: from Hong Bang to Tu Duc, Oscar Chapuis sums up this emperor by one sentence: "Cung Tinh Vuong Phu became Tran Nghe Tong, a king Vietnam had no need for", what an interesting phrase! Grenouille vert (talk) 04:10, 27 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You're right! I'll note the Vietnamese name besides, thank you. Grenouille vert (talk) 17:36, 27 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Naming convention

[edit]

Hi, Vietnamese in the old time, especially nobles and scholars, should be refered by their full name (Trần Bình Trọng), family name (Trần) or courtesy name, not by his given name (Trọng), in historical books, someone was called by his given name only for a derogatory meaning, so please be careful (naming convention for modern Vietnamese is different, of course). For that reason, template {{Vietnamese name}} is also suitable only for article about modern Vietnamese. And calling Vietnamese noble by their title (not at all honorific, but their real title) like Bảo Nghĩa hầu is totally normal (like Hưng Đạo vương, Chiêu Văn vương,...) so your edit about naming in article Trần Bình Trọng is not really appropriate and so I changed it back. Regards. Grenouille vert (talk) 04:27, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oscar Chapuis uses both words "official" and "mandarin" to denote the concept "quan lại", "mandarin" seems more "classical" but can you find a detailed document in English about administrative system in medieval Vietnam so that I can be sure about the translation? For now I think category "Trần Dynasty officials" is just fine, we can change it later (only a few pages have this category). Grenouille vert (talk) 14:53, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your help about Trần Thừa, I'm not really satisfied with those two sources but that's not a big deal, so let's move on :). Grenouille vert (talk) 19:12, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
About queen/empress, my fault! I was confused between Empress Consort (Hoàng hậu, of Emperor) and Empress Regnant (Nữ hoàng, equal to Emperor) so I chose the title Queen instead. I change the category back to "empress" now. Thanks for your notice! Grenouille vert (talk) 04:02, 2 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I change them now. In fact, me too I use the article Song Dynasty as a model for rewriting Trần Dynasty, but it's so hard because I don't have that much sources about this period. Grenouille vert (talk) 14:50, 10 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have the Cambridge book, not good at all! In fact Chapuis's work is based on Trần Trọng Kim's so nothing's new either. Anyway, I must try. Thanks for your attention! Grenouille vert (talk) 14:20, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Help for translation

[edit]

Caro Amore Mio

I'm writing from Italy. We are looking for someone who could translate and upload on Vietnamese WP a page about an artistic literary movement founded in Torino, in 2007. Vietnamese artists are in the Movement. Can you help us? Thanks http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/IMMAGINE%26POESIA --Aeron10 (talk) 14:06, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Diem

[edit]

Some guy flooding Diem and family with Chinese again YellowMonkey (new photo poll) 23:45, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

YellowMonkey and friends evidently have a hard time dealing with the real story of Vietnam. Classical Chinese traditions and, yes, the actual language has been and remains a significant factor among the Vietnamese elite. For example, the article on Sun_Tzu specifically notes the following (emphasis added):
Ho Chi Minh translated the work for his Vietnamese officers to study.[1][2]
Let's have the courage to look at Vietnam in context, instead of airbrushing out the facts that do not fit into the mass-propaganda picture created by Vietnam's intellectuals since the late 1800s. WikiFlier (talk) 03:25, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please READ before blindly deleting precious edits

[edit]

AM,

You took it upon yourself to delete edits I painstakingly made to Ngo Dinh Diem article. You stated:

it can not prove that Ngo Dinh Diem used Han Tu officially, just a Chinese transcription)

Evidently, you did not take the trouble to read the Chinese source I provided in the cite. I took the trouble to summarize the gist of the cited document on the discussion page.

Unless you simply did not trouble to read the cited source, I must assume you are unable to read Chinese. This puts you in the position of a color-blind man asked to judge prize the hue of rose petals. If you cannot make a useful contribution yourself, please refrain from vandalizing the contributions of others. Appropriate action will be taken in the event of repetition of such action. WikiFlier (talk) 03:16, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I can read Chinese quite easily men (although I could not speak them well). Replied in the article's talk page.--AM (talk)

Hi! Sorry about this revert - I accidently clicked on the wrong option. I'd been trying to work out the best place to move the discussion as well, but had only thought of the RfC. Thanks for taking care of it. - Bilby (talk) 14:18, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I reverted you, but you did a good job finding a better source for the dog meat entry. Now the entry is a very worthwhile and informative part of the article. :)

Hi, chào buổi sáng. In the first RM1 for Lady Trieu you said:

Oppose Lady Trieu is a honorific title (like "Sir", "Madam" .etc.) and should not be used as article's title. In addition, Trieu Au is the name given by the Chinese and can't not be used because it has negative meaning of "the old (bad) Triệu". And I dismissed your doubt that "Triêu Trinh Nương" was a hoax of Trần Trọng Kim because he was a respected historian, and he stuck on classical history books such as "Đại Việt Sử Ký Toàn Thư or Cương Mục to write the book "Việt Nam sử lược" (in which the name "Trieu Thi Trinh" appeared).--AM (talk) 04:31, 31 October 2011 (UTC)

I wonder, do you have additional sources for this which could/should go into the article.? My knowledge of Vietnam's history is very patchy, I was there 15 years ago and have forgotten most of the language. But I am still interested in some subjects. In ictu oculi (talk) 02:57, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The reason I'm asking this is that I commented/questioned on the second move request. If I had been able to see your original oppose on the first RM I might also have opposed. But immediately before the 2nd RM an IP set up an archive to send the previous RM and your oppose to an archive. I basically now consider this a move tainted by IP puppetry. But I'm no expert on Trần Trọng Kim, I'd like to understand better your historical considerations. In ictu oculi (talk) 02:09, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I saw you were mention here for possible help. Quick question: Do you know if the above-mentioned article-subject, are the same man as this guy? Sports-reference/Olympics profile with the same name which is also profiled here on International Shooting Sport Federation-pages. Or are they just a coincidence use of the same name? Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:07, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Possible removal of AWB access due to inactivity

[edit]

Hello! There is currently a request for approval of a bot to manage the AutoWikiBrowser CheckPage by removing inactive users, among other tasks. You are being contacted because you may qualify as an inactive user of AWB. First, if you have any input on the proposed bot task, please feel free to comment at the BRFA. Should the bot task be approved, your access to AWB may be uncontroversially removed if you do not resume editing within a week's time. This is purely for routine maintenance of the CheckPage, and is not indicative of wrongdoing on your part. You will be able regain access at any time by simply requesting it at WP:PERM/AWB. Thank you! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 23:36, 8 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
