Revised face2face text for feedback - Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/face2face

Extended content

face2face is a proprietary proximity-based social networking technology delivered through mobile devices that lets users identify when members of their existing social networks are nearby, within walking distance, without sacrificing privacy [1] [2] [3] [4]. face2face uses proprietary proximity-based networking technology to combine and organize existing online social and business networks so its users can learn when people from these networks - as well as friends of their friends - are nearby, yet not the exact location. [2] [4]. face2face keeps users safe in that it does not reveal precise location coordinates, although its technology does have that data.

The face2face mobile application launched in July 2010 [5] for smartphones including the iPhone, BlackBerry, Android, and many J2ME compatible devices [2] [4]. Reviews have shown that face2face is addressing this market need, particularly now as Facebook Places has arrived on the scene, and, as a result, there is increased scrutiny of proximity-based applications. Numerous publications (will include citation here) have reported that face2face is addressing a market need, as it provides the benefits of location-based technology, while not sacrificing individual control and safety. Friends have always been important to Hameed Khan. As he built companies, traveling across the globe, Khan didn’t want friendships to diminish. When “social network” evolved to mean who you knew online, Khan and his friends decided it was time to bring more people face to face as often as they could. Khan grew up in Karachi, Pakistan and went to Yale University. During all these experiences, he watched and took notes as technology and society intersected in impactful ways. As social networking—first online, followed quickly by mobile devices—ballooned in intense popularity, Khan and his close network of business partners were now spread across the world and never missed a chance to catch up if one or more of them were in the same area.

Following graduation from Yale, Khan launched his own construction business, and eventually turned it into a residential real estate sales and rental success. Real estate wasn’t his passion, though, and so he left it behind in '07 to develop the burning idea of using all this technology to keep people more connected than ever. Around this time, Khan began a project with the working title of The Human Video Archive. The archive captured 15-minute stories from people around the globe digitally as a way to give older generations a newer media means to connect and share with younger folks. It was his first attempt to harness the power of connecting people, but it wasn’t enough for him. He went on to found face2face.

In 2009 Khan founded Proximate Global Inc., the company behind face2face, to develop and market an app that aggregated all users’ networks, and has now solved the problems plaguing location-based status alerts. face2face is the first app to combine proximity-based networking technology with a way to organize existing networks. Khan has given mobile phone users the ability to know when people from their social and business networks were nearby, enabling them to connect in person. face2face was launched in July '10 based on Khan’s belief that technology is powerful enough to change behaviors--but needs to be more subtle in its ability to connect. He is currently designing more features and additional products to advance social networking in the real world.

I would be willing to take a look at it, but as the sources are not listed, I ask you to modify the original article to match this. -- DQ (t) (e) 21:15, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

Update

Love the username!!! FYI, I have added a user account to check, at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Russ.lienart. Cheers, -- Cirt (talk) 19:38, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

Hey Cirt, thanks for dropping by. From what I am looking at at the moment, the two users have no behavioral crossover at all. All I see is two people editing the same article. If you can provide some diffs that would prove there is some crossover of behavior I can consider asking for a Checkuser, but other than that I don't know how the user connects. The IPs are obvious, but I am no admin. -- DQ (t) (e) 00:22, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
Nod, okay, thanks, no problem. Hopefully an admin will take some action with regard to the rest. Cheers, -- Cirt (talk) 00:32, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

Onelifefreak

Regarding [1] - is it possible not to archive this? Still wanted action, if not CU then perhaps simply admin action based on the other evidence and contribs involved, similar usernames as to prior blocked socks, etc. ? -- Cirt (talk) 00:48, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

Yep, just realized that I closed that without behavior blocks, reverted immediately. Sorry. -- DQ (t) (e) 00:50, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
No worries, and thanks! -- Cirt (talk) 00:51, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

SPI

Another editor has added more suspected sockpuppets to to a checkuser request you recently declined.[2] Could you please have another look at this to see if it warrants a checkuser. TFD (talk) 22:05, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

I would be happy to take a look at it as soon as I get back to my main computer. (Currrently it's being reformated, and this web browser has issues) So I should get to it later today. -- DQ.alt (t) (e) 16:34, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

Abuse investigation for 24.106.28.122

I am contacting you in regards to the abuse investigation located at Wikipedia:Abuse_response/24.106.28.122 where you closed the investigation without a response. I would like to inform you that the best e-mail address to contact this school at would be jleege@powercom.net as the one used during the investigation was obsolete, but the website was out of date (I say this as a former contributer to this website). You may also wish to contact the primary computer teacher at dhurlbut@kcssonline.org. However, I encourage caution with dealing with the computer teacher as she already discourages use of Wikipedia and I would hate to see access to Wikipedia blocked or disallowed. If you would like to contact anyone else at this school, the information can be found at http://www.kcssonline.org/contact.html --AJ00200 (talk) 23:29, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

I am not eaxctly sure where the original email went, but I will take a look into it as soon as possible. -- DQ.alt (t) (e) 18:55, 8 September 2010 (UTC)

Δbot

Hi, DeltaQuad. Are you the botop for Δbot? I notice it hasn't edited in about 14 hours. -- Rrburke (talk) 14:39, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

Its my bot, and I just fixed the webpage, the bot breaks when someone deletes an active case. (I haven't decided exactly how to handle it). If that happens just tweak User:Δ/Sandbox and remove the deleted case. ΔT The only constant 14:57, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
Not my bot, but I will keep an eye on it XD. -- DQ (t) (e) 12:04, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

Declined CU

I caught the edit summary. I know you're a CU clerk, and I know the others involved added to the discussion... I've worked with Hersfold on other things before. I thought I made it obvious I was joking with the first half of the message. Sorry. --Torchwood Who? (talk) 02:33, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

Ya, sorry, I have been a little tense recently due to IRL, but that (after reading it again) I don't know how it could be a joke, but I will take it that your intention was for it to be that. Sorry for having to decline, but administrators can still take action on it, it's not closed. -- DQ (t) (e) 12:03, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
It's okay, I guess it wasn't all that funny. Any joke you have to explain isn't a good one. I've read so many responses like that lately at ANI and other forums that I guess the sarcasm gets lost if you weren't there. The gag was that the first paragraph is the "coughing" because I've contracted those noticeboards like a disease and am "sneezing" crazy incivility. Sounds better when I say it then write it. I was just in a silly mood. The second paragraph is the actual message. Sorry about the IRL stuff hope it eases up. Happy editing.--Torchwood Who? (talk) 16:58, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
Don't worry about it. :P I am happy now that I know I don't have an editor trying to troll. Anyway, now I have made and editor friend. (if that's even the proper thing XD) The more people the marrier XD. -- DQ (t) (e) 20:18, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

Sock template

Why are putting {{sock}} template on user pages of users who has not been blocked as here? Ruslik_Zero 17:49, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

I guess this is not really the best idea, but it's to help deal with the backlog at SPI. The fact that it says blocked indefinitely was not my intention, it's only to indicate that a CU has confirmed the use of multiple accounts. -- DQ (t) (e) 19:58, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

Re-review of face2face draft

I made the changes you requested with the face2face draft. Can you have another look at the link below and let me know if it's ready for submission?

Thanks much,

We talked a bit about this on IRC. I added some citation needed links to let you know what else should be sourced, then it looks pretty good going to live. -- DQ (t) (e) 11:47, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi. As you recently commented in the straw poll regarding the ongoing usage and trial of Pending changes, this is to notify you that there is an interim straw poll with regard to keeping the tool switched on or switching it off while improvements are worked on and due for release on November 9, 2010. This new poll is only in regard to this issue and sets no precedent for any future usage. Your input on this issue is greatly appreciated. Off2riorob (talk) 23:32, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi
Copy&paste-move = evil. Even on SPI pages. :)
Amalthea 12:46, 23 September 2010 (UTC)

Oops, yep, I usually move, just forgot and did copypaste. My bad. *makes mental note for next time* -- DQ.alt (t) (e) 18:58, 23 September 2010 (UTC)

Feedback - large increase in requests

The graph says it all, really; massive increase since we cleared the backlog and introduced a bit better system. As I've said before, it is a 'victim of its own success', I think. Currently, it is pretty backlogged.

Quite a few get missed, as you can see if you flick through the archives - but I don't know what we can do about that, really, other than hope more people give feedback.

The long-term solution would be to keep these editors; so many come to just create one article, and are never heard of again; if just a few of those stayed, and started giving feedback, then we'd have a more workable system.

I suggest discussion in this WT:FEED section. Cheers!

(I've send this message out to a small number of people that I think/hope will be interested; people who have given feedback, etc. if wrong, apologies, let me know.)
