Uploading a Society logo

I would like to add an infobox on the Society of Graphic Fine Art's page, and I would like that infobox to include the society's logo. The logo was drawn by Alfred Garth Jones (1872-1955), so it is one year until it is out of copyright. It is aso a logo, which is expressly forbidden in the Upload Wizard. If I get written (eg in an email) permission from an officer of the society, would I then be permitted to upload the file?

- Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia! So, you can upload files with permission, as long as the author of the work in question agrees to publish them under a non-exclusive free license compatible with the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License and GNU Free Documentation License. Unfortunately, permission from the author to use the file on Wikipedia specifically is not sufficient, as Wikipedia is free content that anyone can use, edit, and distribute, and if we had files where permission was only granted for use on Wikipedia, then other people couldn't redistribute the articles on which they are used, since those would be derivative works of the files.
- If and when you receive permission for the work for it to be published under a free license, or to be dedicated to the public domain early, you may follow the instructions on this page, or ask the Society to do it for you. Or, you can just wait until January 1, 2025, since it'll be in the public domain on that day!
- And as for replying to talk page messages, you go here, scroll down, and check the "Discussion tools" box. Then each message will have a "reply" link next to it. Thank you! JJPMaster (she/they) 14:47, 24 November 2024 (UTC)

Managing a conflict of interest

We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Society of Graphic Fine Art, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). - I do have a conflict of interest. I am an associate member of the Society of Graphic Fine Art, and I volunteered to update the Wikipedia article upon request from the committee. I have made significant changes to the original page, correcting errors and expanding upon information. Naturally, I believe that my edits were neutral but I recognise that I am not the one to judge that. Given that the edits are made (if not complete), what should happen now?

- You have to declare your conflict on your userpage pursuant to the notice above. You may not edit the article directly. Instead, you have to propose changes on the article Talk page using the template set forth again in the notice above. It can be a bit complicated for a person who's not experienced in editing Wikipedia. If you have questions, you can ask them at the WP:Teahouse.--Bbb23 (talk) 17:51, 24 November 2024 (UTC)
