Iguana Page

[edit]

I appreciate your wanting to help, but please, if you are going to add to the article use an encyclopedic tone and cite references. Also Iguana is not about Blue Iguanas or even specifically about Green iguanas. It is the Genus containing the green and lesser antilles iguana, the bulk of the information you are trying to include is in one or both of those articles. Please use the sandbox for experimenting. Thanks.--Mike Searson (talk) 20:03, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's ok, we all had to start out somewhere, it took me a while to get the hang of it, too. If you want to improve the article, get a good print source. A book about lizards or iguanas would be good. The thing about wiki is you don't want to put in original research. For example I have a male Grand cayman Blue Iguana who loves blueberries. I could not put in the article "Blue Iguanas favorite food is blueberries" because all I can really say is my iguana loves blueberries. But, if I read an article about Blue iguanas where Fred Burton says "250 out of 300 captive born Blue iguanas prefer hibiscus flowers to kale"...I can write:"According to Burton, Blue iguanas prefer flowers to leaves"...and then cite where I read it. Fred is an expert on the species and is published in peer reviewed journals...therefore he is a reliable source. I can help you format references, etc. You also want to be careful about opinion vs fact. For example it is a fact that iguanas are primarily vegetarian, it is an opinion that they make good pets. Hang in there and I'll help you out if you need it. Take care!--Mike Searson (talk) 05:05, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
