Hi Allyscully! I posted on my userpage the articles I would like to work on for the main assignment. If you have any sugguestions, feel free to write on my talk page. Thanks!! :) As for your aticles, Emil Ruder's article has alot of potential for expansion. You can definitely add more to his biography and find out if he had any education in design. I searched if there were any books on his biography (which I found but very expensive) maybe there are previews of the book you can search or excepts, as well for your other articles. The article for Josef Müller-Brockmann is very small so you can definitely add more of his biogrpahy, influence on design, and visual content. For Claude Garamond's article, you can also add to the biography and include what his influence was to design too. Emariemag (talk) 16:41, 25 September 2013 (UTC)

Plan of Attack for 2 Different Articles
[edit]The two articles I would like to improve on are Josef Müller-Brockmann and Emil Ruder. I want to focus on these articles because they can use more information and images of the people and their works to make the article look mnore organized. I was able to find a source for each article through the CSI Library Database, but not many articles come up for these two people. My goal for these articles is to add more important information about these people and how they influenced what typography and design is today. The article on Emil Ruder has a lot of room for improvement. In the article, the only information that is given is that basically he was a Swiss type designer. I would like to expand more on his life, his works that he is famous for, as well as pictures of any of his works and pictures of himself. I would also like to add a section for his biography and education. Sources
For the article on Josef Müller-Brockmann, it gives a very brief run down of his life, education, and work. For this article, I would also like to expand on his works that he is famous for, as well as a more complete biography about his life and education and pictures of his works and himself. Sources
I will be finding more sources to back up information for these articles Allyscully (talk) 01:02, 2 October 2013 (UTC)
- I look forward to seeing your lists of articles. My gut instinct is that Ruder will have more material, but I could be wrong. Also, when you add comments to a talk page, the newest one goes at the bottom (I rearranged your page)--Theredproject (talk) 19:16, 3 October 2013 (UTC)
- I have been looking for articles in the CSI Library data base but I am not having any luck finding articles, I have found 2 that I might be able to use. Are we only looking for articles through the data base? Can you suggest somewhere else I can look? Allyscully (talk) 14:12, 5 October 2013 (UTC)
- Your goal right now is to find what you can. You will be introduced to some examples of search methods on Wednesday. After that, you will be able to meet with Mark Polger for one-on-one help. Do your best right now. Have you done a google search for reliable digital resources? Also, have you looked for books he was the author of? E.g. Typographie: A Manual of Design which you should be able to get through library loan (I doubt we have it at CSI). Once you have a rough bio, you should start to look for the subcategories to search from. I found this "Swiss teacher of typography, set up the Typography class at the Basle School of Design; friend and influence of Adrian Frutiger. Ruder was a frequent contributor to the respected trade journal, Typografische Monatsblätter. He co-founded the International Center for the Typographic Arts in New York, 1962." So I would try searching for "Ruder Frutiger", "Ruder Basle" (or "Ruder Basel"), "Ruder International Center for the Typographic Arts", "Ruder Typografische Monatsblätter" etc, to bring up more detail.--Theredproject (talk) 17:29, 5 October 2013 (UTC)
- So I have been using google to find reliable sources as we were taught in the library session. Aloing with what I have found using the library database, I have a total of 6 sources so far. Only problem is that every source I find turns up the same information. I am at a stand still when trying to find more about Ruder's education and bio. I have tried many different search combinations and still get the same things. Not sure what else to do. Allyscully (talk) 01:30, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

Ruder in Sandbox
[edit]Hi Allyscully, looks like you are making good progress. I would make two suggestions: Make sure all of your claims are sourced/cited. And make sure your summary paragraph at the top is more fleshed out. Maybe you can appraoch it by adding a sentence for each section that summarizes that section to that top paragraph. --Theredproject (talk) 21:18, 19 October 2013 (UTC)
- The Paragraphs for "Early Life" and "Swiss Style" that are not cited were written by other contributors and were already in the Emil Ruder article when I first started to work on it. Everything else that I have added is cited/sourced.Allyscully (talk) 20:10, 21 October 2013 (UTC)
- Those sentences and paragraphs that were part of the article as you found it are now your responsbility! You should revise & edit them as necessary, *definitely* including adding citations for those sections! Keep going.--Theredproject (talk) 18:22, 22 October 2013 (UTC)
Hi, I've gone through the article Emil Ruder and formatted the citations. Just a few things to keep in mind if you wish to submit this to a GA review (for your course): Familiarise yourself with WP:MOS, in particular the lead as it currently stands needs work; read up on the Wikipedia:Good article criteria; and, the Wikipedia:Good article nominations process can be slow to start, but is also intensive, you will need to login and check the review at least everyday. Good luck, and if you have any questions just ask, I also hope you got my note on Commons regarding WP:NFCC. Liamdavies (talk) 12:28, 15 December 2013 (UTC)
