First Comment

Hi Allieb1996! I'm honored to be the first person to comment on your talk page! I can't wait to check out your Wiki project on Viola Neatly Anderson! Madjones515 (talk) 18:59, 20 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I received a notification that you had posted previously published content to the article on Violette Neatley Anderson. I checked the page and it does look like you took material from the Arthur Ashe Learning Center's website verbatim. This is seen as plagiarism even if you cite the source and also poses a copyright issue, as the content on the Arthur Ashe website is copyrighted in a way that would prohibit it being reposted to Wikipedia. We can add some small quotes to Wikipedia, but it's generally seen as something that should be done sparingly and only when the content cannot be re-worded. I can totally help you with this if you like.

I would like you to take the training module on plagiarism before adding anything more to Wikipedia. I'm also going to ping your professor on this as well: Umichquiche Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 15:28, 8 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Thank you for contacting me. I was not aware of this copyright/plagiarism issue, as I have seen much material on Wikipedia taken directly from the source, but cited with links and bibliography. Additionally, I believe cited all of the material I referenced and included quotes - but I was not aware that the way I did this was against policy. Wikipedia, being an encyclopedia, I thought, should be as close to the original source as possible without straying away from the initial sources' motives and intentions. I was unaware plagiarism existed upon citing the sources as heavily as I did. Further, this lack of awareness stems from much of what I have seen on wikipedia which is "plagiarized", and thus I was unaware my edits allegedly are classified as such an egregious act, especially in academia. I have taken the quiz on plagiarism, and will ensure this will not happen again. Please let me know if I need to take any further retributive action so that my apparent misunderstanding will not greatly mar my participation and assignment grades. Thanks much and best Allison Brown

Welcome!
