We cannot use copyrighted images on Wikipedia unless the rights holder (usually the photographer) follows a specific process to license the image under a compatible free license. A tag has been placed on File:Scarlet Sails singer Olya Viglione.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. reddogsix (talk) 04:27, 11 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:17, 12 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Blackbear

[edit]

Hi, we've clearly got into a bit of a conflict on Blackbear (musician), about whether to use "pop punk band" or "garage band". I'd like to state my point in an attempt to reach consensus with you, and you can feel free to rebuttal any of my points, however though discussion guidelines, the page should stay as it is while the discussion is on-going. In the source you cite (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9Anqhkkygk), when he says Polaroid were a garage band, it seems to me, like that was a self-deprecating joke. Additionally if you read WP:RSPRIMARY, you'll see that on Wikipedia, secondary sources (like the Alt Press source) are preferred to primary source (like YouTube source). Obviously we can correct information based on primary sources made to correct, however a band's genre isn't entirely something an artist can determine themselves, it has to be through a secondary source, because any band that plays death metal could, if they wanted to, self-identify as a ska band. Also, there isn't even a Wikipedia page for a genre just called "garage" like you said, (there's garage rock, garage house and UK garage, but no just "garage") and it seems too ambiguous to fit Wikipedia's encyclopedic style, as it could also mean a band who rehearses in a garage (which, seems like what he meant in the interview you cite). I hope you have a nice day. Issan Sumisu (talk) 07:43, 18 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Issan Sumisu In January 2020, the article used to say Polaroid was a rock band. This edit has remained for over a year without dispute, so if you believe the page should stay as it is while the discussion is ongoing, I think it would make more sense for it to then say "garage band" in the meantime since that is what was there.
If you listen to Polaroid, I don't believe they could be classified in any way as way pop-punk. If they were to be called anything besides a garage band, it would be rock, no pop. It honestly wouldn't surprise me in the least if someone at Alt Press didn't listen his band from 10+ years ago prior to writing 1 sentence in the article about the band. I've caught many errors in AP articles in the past that I don't rely on them much.
Many articles have called them many genres. The next most notable example being Complex, who called them a punk-rock band. https://www.complex.com/music/2018/04/rapper-and-r-and-b-singer-blackbear-is-reinvention-personified
If you type in "garage band," it automatically redirects you to the garage rock page. Coming from someone who listened to Polaroid back in 2007/2008, both definitions would have been correct for what they were (type of music as well as how they rehearsed). What about calling them a "rock garage band"?
Alexmarie (talk) 09:16, 18 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know if "rock garage band" really makes sense, because it's stating a general then specific genre straight after it. What if it's introduced as "Florida-based rock band Polaroid" and then as a part of the same sentence as "They released one album, Paint The Town; one EP, Inside And Out; and one demo, The Cure Demo", we add something along the lines "and they have been variously described as being a pop punk,[1] punk rock[2] and garage band"? Issan Sumisu (talk) 10:50, 18 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Issan Sumisu Yes, I think that is a good compromise!Alexmarie (talk) 20:57, 18 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
