Addition to Kalliroi Parren

Hello Alexandrathom, just wanted to chat with you about your addition to Kalliroi Parren. It looks like the material that you added was copied from the Brooklyn Museum's website. The text on the Brooklyn Museum's website is copyrighted, but available for use under a Creative Commons Attribution Non-commercial license. Unfortunately, this license is not compatible with Wikipedia's Attribution Share-alike license. If the museum would like to donate this specific text under an Attribution Share-alike license, they will need to verify this by sending an email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org (See Wikipedia:Declaration of consent for all enquiries). Otherwise, I'm afraid the text will need to be removed from Wikipedia, per our copyright policies. Let me know if you have any questions about this. Cheers. Removal of references

I was also wondering why you are removing the references for several articles related to the Dinner Party installation. Wikipedia requires that information be verifiable in reliable sources. Thus, it's usually a bad idea to remove references unless you feel that they aren't reliable. Kaldari (talk) 21:24, 31 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Kaldari. Articles on each of the Heritage Floor women on Dinner Party Database are not cited nor are lists of reference provided. Therefore, when a Wikipedia article on a Heritage Floor woman cites The Dinner Party Database, a cycle of poorly sourced material is created. I am trying to replace the references on Wikipedia to The Dinner Party Database with the original, secondary source material used to write those articles. Does this make sense? Yes, that completely makes sense. In one case, however, it looks like you removed a reference unrelated to the Dinner Party database: [1]. Perhaps this was just an accident though. Kaldari (talk) 22:24, 31 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Also I would suggest that for any edits where you are removing references, that you explain the rationale in the edit summary. Unexplained removal of references is often treated as vandalism, so you might inadvertently trigger attention from the vandal patrollers. Nomination of Gisela of Kerzenbroeck for deletion

Hi Alexandrathom! Thanks, as always, for improving Wikipedia! I just took a look at your article Jane Gordon (jewelry designer) and I have a few concerns:

  • Two sources are used, and only one is reliable (the news article). At this point, the article doesn't show that Gordon is notable enough (per WP:NOTABLE) to be kept in Wikipedia.
  • I had to remove the statement about her parents being left wing radical Jewish intellectuals. Without citations, we can't state things like that. It violates our WP:BLP policy.
  • Can you replace her website citations? Sadly that's not reliable (see reliable for more information) and doesn't prove notability.

So basically, if you can replace the citations that are unreliable and use more reliable sources to cite the article, it should be good to go. Also, just one reminder, we use surnames, not first names, when writing biographies (so Gordon, not Jane). I hope this helps some. Feel free to stop by the Teahouse for more help. Nganga

I have supported your suggestion about merging N'anga with Nganga, but I have some reservations about the whole structure of the way we deal with African Traditional Religion through this term. Clearly this term is a multiple reflex of a Proto-Bantu root and is thus found in slight variations throughout the entire Bantu-speaking world. The problem is, should we (the Wikipedia community) develop separate entries for the term in each Bantu language? Of should we do some other solution. Hi Beepsie. I think the best immediate solution is to address the point you make here in the article itself, which will serve as a disclaimer for missing information as well as a sub-textual invitation for Wikipedia contributors to add information that relates to different variations of this term when they can. Your addition to Mother Goddess has been removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder. If you are the copyright holder, please read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for more information on uploading your material to Wikipedia. The material you added appears to have been cut and pasted, without attribution, from the Brooklyn Museum website - [2]. The website seems to have released at least some text under Creative Commons, but only on condition that the source be attributed. Sorry to have to play Bad Cop here, but I see you've been notified of copyright concerns over similar edits before, some of them pertaining to the same website - to judge from your user-page, you might be an author or co-author of the said page; even if this is so, the source must be attributed. Change to article

Hi, I'm curious why you removed the citations from the Adelheid Popp article, per this change. It appears to be a reliable secondary source from a respected institution. Ah, I see. Good idea. I generally put "citation needed". Unless the content is something super questionable (i.e. "She had 2 children out of wedlock"). I've actually been asking websites, like the Dinner Party one, to add their references. It's slowly starting to happen with the World Digital Library. Might be a good effort to reach out to the Brooklyn Museum (I know they did have a group of interns and staff research that material, so I do trust it). Thanks for the work you're doing.
