User talk:Alex Nisnevich
I'm back from my one-year WikiBreak (10/20/05 - 10/25/06)! However, I am very busy in RL, so I won't be able to go on Wikipedia very often.
Welcome, {your name here}, to my talk page. Feel free to write your thoughts here, however, be warned as I can and will delete anything I want to. It's my talk page, remember? Oh yeah, and don't forget the golden rule of Wikipedia -- vandalising pages is frowned upon.
Welcome

AD&D races
[edit]Hi, what arrangements have you made for using material from "Fizban's Dragonlance Archive" and other AD&D-related sites? Note that Wikipedia does not allow inclusion of copyrighted material unless the author has agreed to release it under Wikipedia's license. Please respond on my talk page. Thanks. Gazpacho 19:45, 13 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Before asking permission, I suggest that you write summaries in your own words. However, for legal reasons you have to follow a procedure:
- Replace the article text with {{copyvio}}.
- After you have done this, follow the link to the temporary subpage.
- Write original text there.
- If you are able to secure permission, the original article can be restored. I don't think you should mention that you have already used the material when you ask. Gazpacho 22:11, 13 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Image copyright tags
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:LunaLovegood.jpg. I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status? I know you said that your friend allowed you to use it on Wikipedia. If permission was given for use on Wikipedia only, and does not include third parties, then it needs to have the tag Template:Permission. Unfortunatly these type of images are no longer allowed on Wikipedia and will deleted. Please ask your friend if they can release the image under the [[Creative Commons Attribution License v. 2.0]]. The details can be found here: [1]. If your friend agrees, please tag the image with Template:Cc-by-2.0. Thanks so much, michael180 21:55, August 3, 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks, I'll ask. Please don't delete the images yet! Give me some time. -- Alex Nisnevich (talk) 22:49, 3 August 2005 (UTC)
- OK, I obtained permission. I'm putting the copyright tags in now. -- Alex Nisnevich (talk) 21:00, 5 August 2005 (UTC)
- I noticed Image:LunaLovegood.jpg still does not have a tag. Please add one. Thank You. --michael180 14:02, August 6, 2005 (UTC)

The image page said it was licensed under the creative commons license, but your upload comment merely said you had permission. Did your friend explicitly license it under the creative commons license? Reply on my talk page, please. Superm401 | Talk 04:23, August 6, 2005 (UTC)
You addition of the section heading that said Proof made the article misleading, in that it made it look as if everything in the article under that heading is about the proof. In fact, only the first paragraph after the new heading is about the proof; the part after that is about something else. Sometimes a new section heading necessitates other new section headings (and in this case, I've now added one). I've seen the same thing happen in lots of other articles. Shannara
[edit]Hey, You messaged me about Shannara WikiProject. Yeah, sure I can join the project (if I can figure out how to use Wikipedia that is). Elfstones is my favorite book after all.
For now I am working on The Four Lands page because I like geography. I'll probably split it into 4 parts (no need to ask which) and maybe even make separate pages for large cities. You may remove Four Lands from the to do list if you wish, I'll take care of it. Then maybe I'll do some work on characters and other small-scale stuff.
One more thing, the plot summary for The Sword of Shannara is wrong. Yes, wrong, not inaccurate. Along with small mistakes whoever made it obviously did not understand its ending of the book or confused it with Lord of the Rings. Can you please fix it or find someone to do it or put it on to do list. I did not read the other book plots.
Now with business taken care of let me introduce myself. My name is Alex Serov (да, я тоже русский). My nickname is Serovich(not sure why). I live in United States (Maryland). Right now I'm studying in university. No notable special interests. I read books, play computer games, and various sports for fun. I read all four of the first Shannara books and The Scions of Shannara, now reading The Druid of Shannara. Unfortunately I have no books after that. I'm telling you this because I don't want to edit my personal page (I consider that the most boring activity one can think of). My email is serovich@gmail.com. Ok, thanks, hope to hear from you.

Image Tagging Image:Sigma.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Sigma.png. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, ie in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{gfdl}} to release it under the GFDL. If you can claim fair use use {{fairuse}}.) See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thanks so much.
Image copyright problem RE: Image:Bell curve.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Bell curve.jpg. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law. We need you to specify two things on the image description page:
- The copyright holder, and
- The copyright status
The copyright holder is usually the creator. If the creator was paid to make this image, then their employer may be the copyright holder. If several people collaborated, then there may be more than one copyright holder. If you created this image, then you are the copyright holder.
Because of the large number of images on Wikipedia, we've sorted them using image copyright tags. Just find the right tag corresponding to the copyright status of this image, and paste it onto the image description page like this: {{TAGHERE}}.
There are 3 basic ways to licence an image on Wikipedia:
- An open content licence
- Public Domain
- Fair Use
- The copyright holder gets the best protection of his work by licencing their work under an open content license like the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike licence. If you have the express permission of the copyright holder to licence their work under the above licence, use the image copyright tag: {{cc-by-sa-2.5}}. The GNU Free Documentation License is another choice for licencing one's work. Again, if you have the express permission of the copyright holder, use the tag: {{GFDL}}.
- The copyright holder can also release his work into the public domain, see here for images released into the public domain.
- Images from certain sources are automatically release into the Public Domain. This is true for most governments like the federal United States government. (See here for images from the government of the USA and here for other governments) However not all governments release their work into the public domain, such as the UK government (See herefor images from the UK government). Non-free licence governments are listed here.
- Also, in some cases, an image is copyrighted but allowed on Wikipedia because of Fair Use. To see if this image qualifies and then how to tag it, see Wikipedia:Fair use.
For any other sources of for more information see Wikipedia:Image copyright tags. Please remember that if you don't tag your images, they will be deleted.
- P.S. If you have uploaded other images without including copyright tags, please go back and tag them. Also, please tag all images that you upload in the future.
If you have any questions, just leave a message on my talk page. Thanks again.

Hello. Round four of Wikipedia Mind Benders will open on Thursday, December 1. This round will be drastically different from round three; part one will consist of a creative project, and part two will be developed from there. The full details will be released when the round opens. Time and speed should not be major factors in this round; thus, there is no exact opening time for the round as speed will not factor into the scoring. Thanks! The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. Welcome to Wikipedia 1.0
[edit]Hi Alex, thanks for signing up as a reviewer. We are currently in (I hope!) the last week or two of reviewing for WP:V0.5, if you want to help us complete the task sooner, we'd appreciate your help. Take a look at Wikipedia:Version 0.5/To do - we are mainly reviewing FAs, a few core topics and the core biographies at this point. I'd also appreciate a fresh pair of eyes at Wikipedia:Version 0.5 Set Nominations on the "isms" and the religions/deities sets, any comments you have would be welcome. In August we felt that we had too many FAs on unimportant topics and not enough important topics covered, but I think we have more-or-less restored the balance now. We have done that by accepting a lot of B-Class articles (and a few Start-Class) on important topics from the lists and sets shown (nominations outside of those lists have closed). Once you've taken a look, by all means contact my talk page for answers or suggestions.
By next month, we should be able to open up the next phase, which would probably be called Version 0.7, and of course there will be lots of reviewing there too. In the longer term, we are looking to generate much larger lists automatically from the bot-based assessments (over 150,000 articles have now been assessed by WikiProjects! All while you were on wikibreak!). But for now, these manual assessments are kinda better (though much slower!), because we know a person has physically looked over the article for the CD - I think this will give us a nice reliable & balanced "core" of articles we can rely on for all future releases, even after the automation comes in. Many thanks, Walkerma 21:37, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the welcome! I'll see what I can do with the "isms" and religion sets. Alex Nisnevich 02:19, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Strugatsky novels
[edit]Hi, I've registered on Wikipedia a year or so ago, but I have just gotten around to doing stuff the past couple of days. I've noticed you also listed improving Strugatsky-related articles as your current focus. Do you have anything specific that you're working on? I've written a fairly long article on Space Apprentice/Probationers a few days ago, but I haven't gotten around to uploading and formatting it yet, maybe tomorrow afternoon. I've also started writing an entry about recurrent characters in their early novels (Bykov, Yurkovsky, etc.) - I think it would be good to have them in one place, and then the novels pages could link back to it, no need for repetitions - but that's nowhere near upload-ready yet. I'll let you know when I put them up - will you be as kind as to look them over? I read their works in Hungarian, and I don't speak any Russian, sadly. Happy editing! - prezzey 02:03, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
- No, I'm not doing anything specific Strugatsky-wise, just fixing up everything that I can see. I'd be happy to look over your articles! =) Alex Nisnevich 02:45, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
- Yay, thanks!! Here it is: Space Apprentice. It still needs a section on significance, and proper categories, and a bunch of other stuff, but right now I should really really be doing something else called "schoolwork" :] The English might be clunky in places, my sleep cycle has just gone casters-up *sigh*. prezzey 23:58, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Little fighters 2.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Little fighters 2.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 09:10, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Edicon.gif
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Edicon.gif. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.
Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 03:11, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Shannara pc.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Shannara pc.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --FairuseBot (talk) 00:42, 31 October 2008 (UTC)
First off, I apologize for the spam. You are receiving this message because you have indicated that you are in Southern California or interested in Southern California topics (either via category or WikiProject).
I would like to invite you to the Los Angeles edition of Wikipedia:Wikipedia Loves Art, a photography scavenger hunt to be held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) on Saturday, February 28, 2009, from 1:00 to 7:00 PM. All photos are intended for use in Wikipedia articles or on Wikimedia Commons. There will be a prize available for the person who gets the most photos on the list.
If you don't like art, why not come just to meet your fellow Wikipedians. Apparently, we haven't had a meetup in this area since June 2006!
If you are interested in attending, please add your name to Wikipedia:Wikipedia Loves Art#Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Please make a note if you are traveling to the area (train or plane) and need transportation, which can probably be arranged via carpool, but we need time to coordinate. Lodging is as of right now out of scope, but we could discuss that if enough people are interested.
Thank you and I hope to see you there! howcheng {chat} 23:27, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
File source problem with File:BillWeasley.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:BillWeasley.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.
If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 23:38, 6 February 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — ξxplicit 23:38, 6 February 2010 (UTC)
The article FtpVC has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Non-notable software. Advertising.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Brad 02:51, 21 April 2010 (UTC)
Articles for deletion nomination of FtpVC
[edit]I have nominated FtpVC, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/FtpVC. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.
Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Brad 20:29, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image File:Ftpvc screen.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Ftpvc screen.jpg.
PLEASE NOTE:
- I am a bot, and will therefore not be able to answer your questions.
- I will remove the request for deletion if the file is used in an article once again.
- If you receive this notice after the image is deleted, and you want to restore the image, click here to file an un-delete request.
- To opt out of these bot messages, add
{{bots|deny=DASHBot}}

Fair use rationale for File:ExamDiff Pro Screenshot.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:ExamDiff Pro Screenshot.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk 03:35, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Elfstones.gif
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Elfstones.gif. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-enwikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-enwikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 18:43, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
Help needed at Rinat Akhmetov article
[edit]Dear Alex,
I kindly ask you to help us to resolve a dispute with user Львівське whose allegations seem to insinuate reputation of Rinat Akhmetov, who is a living public person; recently I have thoroughly reviewed and restructured the article Rinat Akhmetov, removed poorly sourced statements having put proven facts in chronological and logical order. Львівське is now systematically restoring his version though it includes statements violating WIKI policies about Verifiability, Biographies of living persons and gossip. Kindly assist on the matter. --Orekhova (talk) 10:48, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

Wikipedia Stories Project
Victor Grigas

Hi!
My name is Victor and I'm a storyteller with the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit organization that supports Wikipedia. I'm chronicling the inspiring stories of the Wikipedia community around the world, including those from readers, editors, and donors. Stories are absolutely essential for any non-profit to persuade people to support the cause, and we know the vast network of people who make and use Wikipedia have so much to share.
I'm scouring user pages looking for inspiring, motivating and interesting stories of how Wikipedia has affected the lives of people. I'm asking questions like "How has Wikipedia changed your life?", "What's the most interesting story you have about Wikipedia?" and "Has Wikipedia ever surprised you?"
Last year, we used the annual fundraiser as a way to show the world who it is who actually writes Wikipedia. We featured editors from Brazil, Ukraine, Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Kenya, India, United States and England. This campaign was a huge success, resulting in the most financially successful fundraising campaign ever. It was also a campaign that stayed true to the spirit of Wikipedia, educating the public that this free top-5 website is created by volunteers like you and I.
This year we want to highlight more Russian-language Wikipedia editors, so I am in the process of planning a trip to Russia to interview editors.
If you or someone you know (or have heard about) has been positively affected by Wikipedia, or have something interesting to say about Wikipedia I'd very much like to hear about it!
Please let me know if you're inclined to take part in the Wikipedia Stories Project, or if you know someone else with whom I should speak.
Of course, if you have any questions or concerns, please ask! I will answer as soon as I can. I apologize for any poor translation of this letter, I am using Google-translate. I hope it makes you laugh :)
Thank you for your time,
Victor Grigas

The article Morgawr (character) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- no assertion of notability
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Widefox (talk) 17:11, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Integer.gif
[edit]A tag has been placed on File:Integer.gif requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Personal questions
[edit]Hi,
do you mind if I were to ask you a few personal questions? Feel free to not answer them, but I ask them because I wish to know something about 'memory' in Russia or with Russians in general. I ask these questions to several native Russian speakers, so forgive me if you encounter these questions on different talkpages. So here are the questions:
- When were you born?
- Were you 16 or older in the 1980s?
- Were you born in Russia/Soviet Union? Where?
- How do you remember the Soviet-Afghan war/Afghan war?
- How do you remember the Soviet repression, such as the Gulag or the prison camp system?
- How do you remember the public discussion in the 1980s/1990s about the repression and the prison camp system?
- How do you feel about the victims of the Afghan war and the victims of the repression?
Answer in anyway you like (which includes not answering as well of course), thank you very much.
Kind regards,
Mallerd (talk) 18:38, 20 October 2013 (UTC)
Wikipedia could use your knowledge of Russian right now...
[edit]Hi! I'm ChromaNebula (talk) , and I noticed the article Kinzelyuk Waterfall when I was patrolling Recent Changes. The article is short, needs better sourcing, and the waterfall itself may not even be notable. Unfortunately, as this is a Russian waterfall, the best sources for it are most likely in Russian. Google Translate isn't good for entire sources, so I was wondering if an experienced Russian-speaking Wikipedian such as yourself could help improve this article. Thanks, ChromaNebula (talk) 00:53, 21 March 2014 (UTC)
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. File permission problem with File:LunaLovegood.JPG
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:LunaLovegood.JPG, which you've attributed to Leela Starsky.. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 00:18, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
