Hi, welcome to wikipedia, and thanks

[edit]

Hi Alex, Thanks for expanding the article of Harry Hammond Hess. I'd be happy to help you out and show you some of the formats and conventions that we use in the process of making wikipedia better. My particular interests exists in Naval ships and history, so (once I get the time) I'll add a ship table to USS Cape Johnson (AP-172), just so that it looks like other ship articles in that category, if you want have a look at USS Rockbridge (APA-228) as an example. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to leave me a message on my talk page, I haven't been around wikipedia a whole lot lately, but I'll respond as soon as I can. Thanks again for your contributions. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 15:16, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

DUDE! SORRY ABOUT THE DODGY EDITING! WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN!

[edit]

Hello Alex, Re: 'Wikipedia Ashton in Makerfield'. You sent me this message ... 'Please do not replace Wikipedia pages with blank content. Blank pages are harmful to Wikipedia because they have a tendency to confuse readers. If it is a duplicate article, please redirect it to an appropriate existing....' The item I removed amounts to personal religious argument of the Catholic/Protestant/Non-Conformist variety which, I feel, can only incite further comments in opposition. Personal religious opinion has no place in an encyclopedia. I have transferred some notes re: Non-Conformist Churches to the article where the area belongs, .... 'Wikipedia Bryn Lancashire'.

Welcome to the Southern California WikiProject

[edit]

It would be nice to see more added to the Wikipedia on the geology of Southern California. The odds are that there is misinformation and nonsense that have been added to some the articles on local geography, but I don't know enough to be able to catch anything but the most blatant errors. To give you a model to shoot for, the Geology of the Death Valley area article is a Wikipedia Featured article.

For a more mundane task, you might also keep an eye on the Marina High School article. If you are really bored one day, the Wikipedia also needs an article on the Huntington Beach Union High School District. BlankVerse 13:27, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Some suggestions: You might start by looking at Category:Geology of California to see what articles currently exist, and also start thinking about what necessary articles are missing. You might also look at Category:Southern California geography stubs and Category:California geography stubs for geology articles that can be expanded.
The geology info in the Southern California article is pretty skimpy and stuck in the section labeled Geographical regions. There should be enough for a separate overview article, Geology of Southern California. (Heck, there isn't even a Geology of California article!)
Go might through some of the articles on Southern California mountain ranges to make sure that there are no glaring errors in them, and to see if any of them are skimpy stubs that beg for expansion. (see Category:Mountain ranges of California) You will find that there is currently much better documentation on individual mountain peaks because of the efforts of some hiking and climbing enthusiasts.
Then look for some of the other articles on Southern California geology, such as the Wilmington Oil Field, which is a pretty stubby article for its importance to both the geology and economy of Southern California.
You might also look at some of the geology/geography topics, such as the Los Angeles Basin, which is an awfully skimpy article at the moment. How can it, for example, talk about it being like "a bowl of jelly", without a link to liquefaction. It mentions subsidence from oil extraction, and specifically mentions Long Beach Harbor, without mentioning the subsidence that also occurred on Terminal Island.
If you know much about earthquakes, you might look at some of the articles on Southern California earthquakes, and consider creating an overview article on SoCal earthquakes. I was surprised when I looked at Category:Earthquakes in the United States, and found that there were only 20 articles on US earthquakes (although there may be some articles that are uncategorized).
Because of some personal interest in the topic, I'd like to see at least a section, if not a full article on the geology of the Channel Islands of California.
I've now inundated you with way too many ideas, but I hope that you will pick and choose those areas that you can best contribute to. BlankVerse 11:27, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Alex, you messaged about my edit to Azrael - I added it to the wrong place at first, under music - misread which area I was editing. Did an add, then a cut from music and into fiction. Sorry for the confusion, I'll try to get things right the first time in the future.

Brad Nowell head stone

[edit]

Thank you for the compliments. I thought Brad deserved a better page, so I attempted to make him one. Others contributed as well. I think the page is looking pretty good now.

If you'd like, I think it would be a great idea for you to take a picture of the head stone and upload it under a free license. Wikipedia prefers free license over fair use, as I'm sure you know. So, if you can, that would be great. Thanks. Andrew Parodi 12:19, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Esperanza!

[edit]

Welcome, Alex LaPointe, to Esperanza! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. You can support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Proposals.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact our administrator general Natalya by email or talk page. Consider introducing yourself at the Esperanza talk page! Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC tutorial. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

--- From : Liquidus Maxima

[edit]

Hi there, please keep into account that I am a new 'user/account' to Wikipedia following a situation which I've encountered

It seems a user on a network I use has edited 'Wikipedia article Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories'

I believe you 'Alex La Pointe' have sent a message to my residing adress adhearing this.

Caption :-

'You have recently vandalized the Wikipedia article Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, and you are now being asked to stop this type of behavior. You're welcome to continue editing Wikipedia, so long as these edits are constructive. Please see Wikipedia's Blocking policy and what constitutes vandalism; such actions are not tolerated on Wikipedia, and are not taken lightly.'

On further consultation, I would like to have further details to this 'violation' as :

1. I do not Edit Wikipedia articles myself

2. I did not wish to create a Wikipedia Account, to which I appear to be 'obliged' to now

3. Would like to recieve details as to precautionary measures I can take, due to the fact I use Wikipedia as reference material source and do not wish to recieve uneccesery punishment to my own viewing privalges

I do not have much knowledge towards user related topics (even editing and being a member of Wikipedia) but am aware it may be possible to edit Wikipedia to which I have never pursued, or ever touched, intentionally, due to it being an unknown region of my investigation, to which I do not have to much time or will too, so I hope this message is placed rightfully and with neccesity in this domain 'User Talk', and hope that you'll be happy to reply to my query

With Thanks, Liquidus Maxima 00:04, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please see your talk page for my response. Thanks.—Alex LaPointetalk 00:46, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Joe gunther

[edit]

Why on earth did you revert my (Ensiform) changes to the Joe Gunther article? There seems to be no reason for it whatever. This is user:ensiform, you may respond on my talk page, but cannot sign in at the moment. see user talk page for responseAlex LaPointetalk 21:14, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reply. i will categorize. But --- and I honestly am not being confrontational about this, I genuinely want to know --- why did you assume that I had reverted it instead of making a valid edit? Ensiform 01:31, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That's really interesting. I didn't know the programs used common keywords. thanks for explaining, and I am glad that there are people who make it their mission to quietly and quickly revert the vandalism. Ensiform 16:21, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding vandalism warnings

[edit]

If you arrive at a page to warn a user about their recent vandalous contributions, and you find the most recent warning was a test4 (and it has been placed recently), please do not restart the vandal warnings with test1. After receiving a final warning which indicates that the warning will be "their last warning," another warning would be anti-climactic. Should a vandal dare to vandalize past the last warning, users should make it clear that they will be blocked, not given a second chance with a t1. A t1 warning may make the vandal think they have "gotten away" with the vandalism. Besides that, you were right to bring the vandal to WP:AIAV. Thanks for you contributions to Wikipedia, and I hope you choose to continue editing for a long time! If you have any questions, please contact me at my talk page. WP:CVU status

The Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism Unit project is under consideration to be moved to {{inactive}} and/or {{historical}} status. Another proposal is to delete or redirect the project. You have been identified as a project member and your input as to this matter would be welcomed at WT:CVU#Inactive.3F and at the deletion debate. Thank you! First off, I apologize for the spam. You are receiving this message because you have indicated that you are in Southern California or interested in Southern California topics (either via category or WikiProject).

I would like to invite you to the Los Angeles edition of Wikipedia:Wikipedia Loves Art, a photography scavenger hunt to be held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) on Saturday, February 28, 2009, from 1:00 to 7:00 PM. All photos are intended for use in Wikipedia articles or on Wikimedia Commons. There will be a prize available for the person who gets the most photos on the list.

If you don't like art, why not come just to meet your fellow Wikipedians. Apparently, we haven't had a meetup in this area since June 2006!

If you are interested in attending, please add your name to Wikipedia:Wikipedia Loves Art#Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Please make a note if you are traveling to the area (train or plane) and need transportation, which can probably be arranged via carpool, but we need time to coordinate. Lodging is as of right now out of scope, but we could discuss that if enough people are interested.

Thank you and I hope to see you there! howcheng {chat} 23:26, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Better source request for File:Kayenta.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for your upload to Wikipedia:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain, search engine, pinboard, aggregator, or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 18:53, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
