Rollback/warn problem
I'm using IE 7, Java is enabled, and I'm not running or have popups installed. The problem I'm having with rollback is described here. Essentually, yesterday afternoon Eastern US time, I started experiencing a problem with rollback, when rolling back it rolls back the last edit, but identifies the edit before the one I'm rolling back as the one being rolled back: [1]. If I use one of the rollback and warn buttons, it warns the wrong editor, it will warn the editor who made the edit before the one I'm rolling back.[2], [3]. We've added this issue to the VP Bug Tracker.
It's really inhibiting my use of VP. Dreadstar † 00:50, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
- Me too having the same problem.....the vandal edit gets reverted but in the summary it shows "Reverted edit by XYZ" where XYZ is the name of user who edited b4 the vandal user.....any idea how to fix this???? Gprince007 07:51, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for looking into this. What does "partially fixed" mean? Which part was fixed..and how do fixes get to the client? I guess the client program is interacting with a program running on Wikipedia? Dreadstar † 19:13, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
- It means on my dev version. When the dev version is ready for download, an announcement will be made. I'm having IE issues atm though, so I don't know when that will be. Ale_Jrbtalk 19:19, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks, sorry for posting duplicate questions here and on bug tracker. Hope your IE problems are quickly solved...Dreadstar † 21:44, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

User List corrupted - VandalProof
Ale, I am getting a notice that the User list is corrupted when I attempt to verify authorization. It also directs me to a moderator. Maybe this is related to the bug that is being repaired; if not, I would like to use the current functional features of VP. Any assitance you can provide would be appreciated. Cheers. --Storm Rider (talk) 17:13, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
- I am aware of this issue. However, due to some severe connection issues with Wikipedia, I am unable to edit the large userlist to fix the issue. I have alerted other mods, so you'll have to wait for them to fix it. Sorry about that. Ale_Jrbtalk 17:37, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

This is an article that you nominated for deletion. You said it was spam, or a blatant advertisement. I think that with a complete re-writing, it wouldn't be such a bad article. Oh, when you patroll a page, after checking, or while checking, please go to the bottom right of the page, where you'll find a link named "Mark this page patrolled." Cheers, Basketball110 the pages I've messed up completely 23:07, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
- Fair enough. It still reads as a blatant advertisement to me "Every Bossa Nova you drink saves one rainforest tree. You save the tree's life, the tree returns the favor. Nice.", but if you disagree, that's fine by me :). Ale_Jrbtalk 23:10, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

NP Watcher
Please reviews the specification for WP:CSD before you make further semi-automated deletions. In particular, watch out about CSDA1 "No context. Very short articles lacking sufficient context to identify the subject of the article. Example: "He is a funny man with a red car and makes people laugh." Context is different than content, treated in A3, below" If you can figure out what the article is about, this criterion is not applicable. For example, for a album with a track list and a stated performer, one can figure out what the article is about. If you dont think the article gives sufficient information, use PROD. ::on the other hand, an article saying only "Chrimson Viper Might Be Coming Into The Series as an all new character." is indeed a valid speedy under this criterion.DGG (talk) 00:51, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
- Additionally, schools can not be speedied for lack of notability. See WP:CSDA7. High schools are always defended, so there';s no point using prod for them either, and you need to go to afd. For elementary and intermediate schools, prod usually works.
- And an article about a person asserting an national level award is an assertion of notability, and does not possibly fall under CSD A7. Ditto aboutthe Dean of BYU business school, or any other notable position If you think the notability is insufficient, use prod or afd.
- Please do keep on patrolling,we really need it, and most of your tagging is excellent, but try for greater accuracy. DGG (talk)
- Hmmm... IIRC, a number of other similar tagged notability articles were successfully deleted by admins. Ah well... I guess if I can be bothered to do it again, I'll have to be more careful. Cheers, Ale_Jrbtalk 10:48, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

Fred Schneider article
Please tell me why you removed my Fred Schneider edit - I'd already reported it as a false positive after the bot removed it. The song, and album 'The Power of Pussy' by Bongwater is a well-known (and great) album from the early 90's, and Fred sang on the title track!
Thanks.

Oral Roberts Edit
Dear Sir,
I am a great fan of Granville 'Oral' Roberts. I have read all his books on 'Oral' and have studied him frivalously for the last 20 years, frequently partaking in the practical demonstrations that he constantly suggests throughout his literative works. I would, therefore, appreciate it if you would not interfere with my edits regarding such an established figure in the field of Oral Stimulation. If however, you are a fan of Oral's, like myself, I would like to invite you to the 'Oral' Roberts Conference in Birmingham NEC where a number of performances of 'Oral's work will be on show throughout a fun packed day for all the family on the 30th of June this year.
Yours sincerely,

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Critical-Mass.gif
Done
Thanks for uploading Image:Critical-Mass.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. Why do you keep restoring old text on my talk page? --121.208.180.8 (talk) 17:42, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
- You said "Blanking Talk Pages: Hi there. In generally, it is considered very bad practise to blank your talk page, especially if there are warnings on it. You can, however, move content from your talk page to an archive page - to learn how to do this, see here. Keep in mind that by blanking your talk page, you are not deleting the messages on it - you are simply making it more trouble to get to them; basically, there's no purpose, and it may give a bad impression. If you enjoy contributing constructively to Wikipedia, why not create an account? Either way, happy editing (and please consider moving the deleted contents from this page to an archive instead). Thanks!" There weren't any official warnings, just some minor complaints that were worked out. There was no reason, therefore, for you to keep restoring old text. I am using my talk page to work out article problems as I've already once lost an hours work from an edit conflict. 121.208.180.8 (talk) 17:52, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

VP 1.4
just wondering how its comming. βcommand 17:27, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
- I work on it every now and then, but to be honest, I have lots of other things to do, so it isn't much of a priority. As I said when I first mentioned I was working on it, it may never be complete. If you are interested however, the following is pretty much done:
- Browsing works pretty well; I have my tabbed browsing system working, different URL things work properly, and some of my features work as well.
- RC retrieval works well for normal edits, though it's a bit slow and needs optimising. It uses the API, so no more stupid RSS issues.
- Viewing diffs works alright - but only for some cases. The rest of them need work.
- The interface works nicely - toolbars can move around, parts of the interface can be resized properly.
- FYI, it's also moving away from its VB roots - a lot of the data is handled server-side, in PHP, as that's a much more powerful language (in my opinion). Features that I haven't done but will come around include:
- Authentication on a server (MySQL username list? dumped to wiki page maybe) so no more loading ridiculously long pages to authenticate users.
- Proper use of the UTC standard, to avoid the horrible issues that they cause with the program at the moment (this is partly to do with VB, which is why I want to move away form it as much as possible).
- Server based rollback - all a client needs to do is send a request for it to take place, which is (obviously) much, much faster.
- Central (shared) white- and black-lists for pages and users, so it's more of a collaborative effort.
- And bug free - it would be nice to have a release of something that actual works - so far, it really doesn't (I'm kind of surprised anyone uses it at all - I certainly don't when I'm vandal fighting).
- Eventually, the aim is to have a release that works off a server with JavaScript, AJAX and PHP - no download, cross-platform, only needs a browser, lightweight, super-fast (i.e. it will utilise the scripts I use for my bot rollbacks on other wikis) and bug free. The emphasis being on eventual. Either way, that's the status as it stands. Regards, Ale_Jrbtalk 17:54, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
If you going to delete, at least perform the minimal due diligence
You may have noticed that I was translating an article from the Swedish Wikipedia, and you deleted my article 30 seconds after I started it. Due diligence isn't hard to perform, you can start by doing a Google search, or may start by looking at internal links or you may start by looking for links to other language Wikipedias. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 20:55, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
- It is not my place to help you build your article - I help with articles I want to help with, not necessarily ones that you have made. If you wish to create an article, it must assert (tell us why) that subject is important. Yours did not. Keep in mind that it does not matter how important the subject is, if the article doesn't say why. If you wish to recreate the article, complete with the assertion of notability, feel free to do so. check your algorithm
you did an auto revert on the laborers page on two edits that could not be more relevant. There is no way a human made this error, not sure what to change in your code but laborer and personal safety equipment and high visibility clothing should check out ok.128.12.170.11 (talk) 19:44, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
clever, return false if no login && no edit comment. The assumption is if the edit is relevant the revert will be explained and redone. Seems like good assumptions. Creating an array with associated word lists would make the code very complex and still error prone. Probably a good catch of my edits since I was using the backbutton to make corrections to me edits thinking they would post under the first posting, sometimes it seems to work and redundant comments not needed for very minor changes, e.g. caps causing link break128.12.170.11 (talk) 19:51, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
Yuck
Why did'nt you just tag IT for deletion as an attack? I made it (and the user page and the talkpage comment)_ go away. Cheers and happy editing Dlohcierekim 20:48, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
- I tagged one of the pages for deletion - I must admit, it totally threw me having my reversion comments in the mainspace - I thought huggle was going a bit mad. Ah well - you got it :P. Ale_Jrbtalk 20:50, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
- Very glad to. If the creator of that article creates any more yuck, I'll be happy to block. Cheers, and happy editing. Dlohcierekim 20:54, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
Follow up to recent vandalism from 206.82.26.62
Hi Alex
I had nothing better to do :) so I followed up on 206.82.26.62 and tracked it to a school in Pennsylvania. I've sent a polite email to the webmaster pointing out what's been happening and suggesting that they might like to investigate, and offering any assistance they may need.
In the past when I've done this the response has generally been positive. One library didn't even know their machine had been hacked and it took them a month to bring it back online, but they were clearly grateful for the heads-up.
So just an FYI. I became the victim of someone else's immaturity at work a while back, when I inherited the IP address from which they had vandalised Wikipedia and found myself blocked from making contributions. It's an unpleasant feeling, being found guilty of someone else's bad behaviour.

Mahlzeit
Hi Alex,
I noticed you reverted my change to the word "Mahlzeit". What I mentioned is quite true. I live in Austria and it's quite common to use the phrase "Mahlzeit" after one belches or lets out wind so to speak. What I added was not vandalism, rude or incorrect so I'd like to ask why you didn't check this before reverting it back to the original entry.
I look forward to you putting my changes back!
Cheers,

- Thanks for pointing this out to me - please feel free to replace your edit. Apologies. Ale_Jrbtalk 16:21, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
