RE: Elwin Cockett

[edit]

Hello! Thank you for your kind words. Let be start by saying thank you for clarifying the education situation, it wasn't entirely clear in the sources, especially as the Wikipedia article of AIS suggested that it was secondary school only.

However, there are limits to how much an individual can edit their own Wikipedia article; as per Wikipedia:Autobiography, you are advised not to edit your own article except to remove incorrect material (please explain that this is what you are doing in the edit summary). In addition, as anyone can edit Wikipedia, it is very difficult to verify that you are indeed Elwin Cockett (though I don't doubt that are are, I'm just not allowed to take that for granted). Because of this, I can't use your comments on my talk page on their own as a source. That said, I have tried to verify your comments elsewhere and I shall now brake down what I've been able to find:

  • As for your schooling, I have corrected the order and clarified that you attended the primary of AIS. I have not been able to find a source for your attending Malmesbury Primary School, so this has not been added.
  • I have not been able to find a source stating that you were "Student President at Oak Hill College", or verifying your churchmanship. I described St Chad's as Conservative Evangelical as this is how it is described on A Church Near You. If you would prefer, I can change it to simply Evangelical, unless you have a source describing it as Open Evangelical?
  • I have added a section about your charity/school work. I hope that is accurate.
  • I have added details about your interests. I haven't been able to find anything about your band.
  • I have added your son's website as a reference, so it is linked after the mention of him. I have not been able to find a reference verifying your daughters' names.

I hope all these changes have been correct/satisfactory. I have said above, I haven't added things I couldn't find a reference for. If you know of a reference for any of the things I've missed, I would be very grateful if you could point me in the right direction. If not, you could write a blog entry/tweet/ add to your LinkedIn profile and that would do to. Thank you for help, Gaia Octavia Agrippa Talk 13:38, 3 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for all this and for your patience with me! You will have gathered that I am a newbie when it comes to editing Wikipedia. I appreciate that it is not recommended that a person edit their own entry. My concern has been to correct a couple of inaccuracies and give a little more material to balance what is already there.

I have written a new entry ('Education, Education, Education') in my blog at www.Cockett.org which might enable you to include Malmesbury School and one or two other details. You will understand that I think it quite important that someone reading your article doesn't come away with the impression that I am a Conservative Evangelical, which I am certainly not. I think it would indeed be right to call St Chad's, Chadwell Heath 'Evangelical' rather than using the incorrect description shown in 'a church near you'.

Thanks again for your work on this. I am grateful for your desire to abide by Wikipedia's rules on how information is included.

Best wishes,

Elwin Aldersking (talk) 17:16, 3 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for writing that blog, its a very interesting read too! I have made changes to the article, I hope they are satisfactory and my rewording hasn't made anything incorrect. Thank you for your understanding and co-operation. I shall be monitoring it so that no one can introduce errors maliciously or otherwise vandalise it, but do feel free to remove such things yourself. If there is anything else missing (though do remember it can't include everything!) do get in touch. If not, it has been a pleasure writing your article and working with you to improve it, Gaia Octavia Agrippa Talk 21:59, 4 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
One last thing, I have entered your article as a Did You Know entry and so should be appearing in that section of Wikipedia's Main Page in the coming week. I hope that's okay, if not, I'll withdraw it. Gaia Octavia Agrippa Talk 22:08, 4 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

How about sending a photo for the article and releasing it under a creative-commons license? --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 00:06, 18 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

First, many thanks to Gaia Octavia Agrippa. The article is comprehensive and accurate and I am very grateful for your work. In answer to Richard Arthur Norton, thanks for the suggestion. I don't know how to do this but will find out. Aldersking (talk) 20:01, 27 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
