Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Albedo11. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about in the article Khaled Mahdi (Kuwaiti government official), you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. If you are being paid by either the subject of the article or the GSSCPD you must declare it. Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 20:24, 15 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for this additional message - after reading through the WP:PAID, I can declare that I am with the GSSCPD, and the main reason for the creation of this article was so that there could be a place online where any interested members of the public could easily locate an online biography of the subject, who is a public figure. As far as the neutrality of the article, I've made all efforts to keep it as neutral as possible inasmuch as I've tried to share a more complete picture of the background and work of the subject, etc. Is all of this still okay? It was a pretty straightforward task, etc. Will the article stay up? I was hoping when I had the time, to amend/improve the remaining small notes like the acronyms that need explaining, a photo, etc., but I just wanted to make sure that you won't take the page down? Albedo11 (talk) 20:34, 15 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I've just added a 'Paid' template to the 'Talk' page of the article, as recommended in the Usage section of WP:PAID, just thought I'd let you know Albedo11 (talk) 20:41, 15 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Well done for disclosing that you are an involved editor and who you work for. That is a good indication that you intend to contribute to Wikipedia constructively and that you respect the terms of use. I don't think the article will be deleted, as Mahdi's contributions as an academic appear to meet WP:NACADEMIC. If another editor thinks the article shouldn't be in Wikipedia for any reason, they can nominate it for deletion in which case you'll be automatically notified and can respond to the nomination. The main implication of being a paid editor is that you should follow the instructions at WP:PAY when you propose a change to the page other than a superficial one by requesting the change on the article's talk page. Someone impartial will check the change before it is made. Don't let that stop you improving the article though. I have tagged various things that can and should be improved, for the sake of the reader. Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 21:02, 15 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so much for being encouraging about this, it means a lot, and I certainly do hope to contribute constructively and as appropriately as I can! Thanks also for explaining how the process will work should anyone nominate it for deletion (which I really hope doesn't happen!). At this point, I don't think I'll be making any substantial changes to the page rather than the ones I saw you tag earlier like clarifying the acronyms, etc., but I will try to remember to propose any bigger changes on the talk page. Thank you again for being helpful and for accepting the article, I really appreciate it. Albedo11 (talk) 21:30, 15 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
