replacing REDIRECTs
[edit]When one article title is redirected to another, it may mean they are synonymous terms. It may also mean that there isn't an article on that topic topic but that the topic is covered to some extent in another Wikipedia article. But whichever reason applies, if a link is named with the redirecting name, it is generally because that name makes more sense in the context of the article it is within. This is the situation with the 2013 floods and Cyclone Oswald. The cyclone itself did damage usually through destructive winds etc but these effects were not widespread. However, the ongoing rain that followed Cyclone Oswald caused floods. So while the two are obviously linked, it was not the cyclone that caused problems at Mt Crosby waterworks or some of the other flood-affected places. It is more correct for the reader to see the floods as the explanation (even if it does redirect to the cyclone article). Also, if someone eventually sits down and writes an independent article on the floods, having the redirecting name in the article means that the link will automatically point to the new article. This does not occur if you replace the redirecting name with a direct link to the other article. So I really think you might want to not make these changes until you've had a little more experience as a Wikipedia user and have a better understanding of these things. I realise you are trying to do something useful but it's just not as useful as you think. If you need any help, please don't hesitate to ask. Wikipedia has a steep learning curve for the newcomer.
