Hello AlanHarvey, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Another user has placed a tag on the article Alan Harvey, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. He did this because the article seems to be a biographical account about a person, group of people, or band, but it does not indicate how or why he/she/they is/are notable. If you can indicate why Alan Harvey is really notable, I advise you to edit the article promptly, and also put a note on Talk:Alan Harvey. Any admin should check for such edits before deleting the article. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. You might also want to read our criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 7 under Articles. You might also want to look at WP:VAIN, WP:BIO and Wikipedia:autobiography. • Hello. Just wanted to inform you in case you didn't already know, Alan Harvey has been listed under Articles for Deletion. There are several things you could do to improve the article, including editing the article to remove vanity content, and Wikifying the page. Listing appropriate references and external links would also be helpful, since most of the voters in AfD (including myself) have had trouble verifying your notability per WP:BIO. Be sure to keep the {{AfD}} tag intact while you make your changes since the voting is still in progress. You are also welcome to vote to "Delete" or "Keep" the article on its AfD page. If you have any questions or comments, please post them on my talk page. Thanks, and happy editing. — TheKMantalk 16:45, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Alan,

I'd like to add my welcome to Wikipedia to that of the folks above me.

One of the most common actions a new or newish Wikipedia user takes is to make a page about themselves in the main article space. Wikipedia has a policy, known as WP:BIO, explaining what is required for a person to have such an article, and I encourage you to read it.

If you feel that you do meet those requirements, I encourage you to post on the AFD vote and/or edit the Alan Harvey page with information and verified sources of same. Alternatively, you can move the page to your user page and state that you have done so in the AFD vote.

You mentioned that "the virtue of Wikipedia is that individuals around the world can add entries about themselves and other items which they are expert on" - this is true for the second part at least. The main problem is that having an open policy for biographical entries means that the floodgates would open for people posting biographical entries, clogging up the database and preventing people from finding articles that they particularly need.

Once again, welcome to Wikipedia. I know that your early experiences have not been particularly pleasant, but I hope that you stick with it and become a regular Wikipedian. Stifle 02:24, 30 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
