Edit summaries

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labelled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

When you leave the edit summary blank, some of your edits could be mistaken for vandalism and may be reverted, so please always briefly summarize your edits, especially when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you.

NFL Capitol Division

I noticed that you are making edits on some of the NFL articles about the "Capital" division. Well I checked http://www.nfl.com/history/chronology/1961-1970, http://www.nfl.com/history/standings/1967, http://www.nfl.com/history/standings/1968, and http://www.nfl.com/history/standings/1969. They spell it "Capitol" with an "O" not an "A". Zzyzx11 (Talk) 20:41, 17 November 2005 (UTC)

  • Ok, I am sorry I got a little upset at you. I guess it is not your fault after all, but it looks like your source, JT-SW.com, is the one that is wrong on this issue. I noticed all the links you're adding to http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/. These links have the appearance of spam, because you're adding them to so many different articles. Wikipedia is not a link directory, so we're trying to keep the number of external links to a minimum and only to the most very pertinent and informative (beyond what Wikipedia can provide). I think it would be helpful if you would first discuss these links on the respective talk pages to see if editors really deem it worth including in the external links section of each article? Please review the External links guidelines, particularly #5 of "What should be linked to".
  1. Sites that contain neutral and accurate material not already in the article. Ideally this content should be integrated into the Wikipedia article, then the link would remain as a reference. - I think your links might fit this criteria, but would be better if some of the information on sportsencyclopedia could be integrated into the article, with the link as a reference rather than an external link. Sports E-Cyclopedia's OK!

Dear Wikipedians, I got my recent message and I'm replying to all of you. I very sure that Sport E-Cyclopedia is very informative on every sports team in Major League Baseball, the National Basketball Association, the National Football League, the National Hockey League, and even Major League Soccer. It shows main/alternate logos, team history, team colors, best/worst team record, etc. Plus, on the main page, they show what recently happened in the world of sports and they also have a three stars section, where they highlight three players (no matter what league) that stood out last night. In the end, I hope you guys give this site a chance. -- Alakazam

I know you've been around for a while and haven't mass-added links before and the site has a decent Alexa rating, so not accusing you of spamming. But, the behavior is typical of those adding linkspam. I think the link needs consensus from more editors, before it's mass added to so many articles. Maybe Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Baseball or Wikipedia:WikiProject National Basketball Association are good places for suggesting and discussing it (they might very well agree with you, and then it's fine with me to add). Back to the Future taglines

Hi, Alakazam. I noticed you put all of the taglines for all three Back to the Future movies. I don't think that's a very good place for them, if they need to be included at all. Especially on the first Back to the Future movie, a paragraph of taglines at the end of the intro really breaks up the article. Perhaps the main tagline for each movie could be added to the infobox and we could scrap the rest entirely. —Cleared as filed. 03:15, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

The Patriots are under attack!

I just went to the New England Patriots main article and some anti-Patriot goon messed up the picture of their team helmet by saying the "New England Patsies." The bum even called their mascot "Pat Patsie." The nerve of some people.

External links

The names you are putting on the external links to various indoor football teams, while sometimes clever, are not appropriate for an encyclopedia. It is best to use something like "Official Site" instead. Cheers. Youngamerican 17:38, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

Your recent edits to all of the NFL team articles

I have noticed that you capitalized all of the "Season-by-Season Records" headers. But it also seems that you are unaware of the policy written on Wikipedia:Manual of Style (headings):

Capitalize the first letter of the first word and any proper nouns in headings, but leave the rest lower case. Thus "Rules and regulations", not "Rules and Regulations".

Taglines

Hi. Please don't add lists of taglines to film articles- It makes the intros look very cluttered. Also WP:NOT specifically cautions against "lists of quotations", which I think covers the taglines. The IMDb has taglines, we don't really need them here, again per WP:NOT, under "Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information". I've removed the taglines, please don't add them again. NFL results tables

can you please not replace the defunct NFL team record tables with the modern table for current teams. Most of the defunct teams did not play in an era where they had any playoffs so to put in a table with playoff results is pointless. ie Oorang Indians. In the case of the Baltimore Colts (1947-50) you replace the table with the "playoff results" but did not put back into the article the head coach information. Please make sure any info that is in a table that you take out is re incorptated back into the article thanksSmith03 05:49, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

Basketball in Canada

I write some articles about Basketball. I can't find any information about basketball in canada, but I can't find any information about a basketball-league in canada. It is not factually wrong, but the tone of the writing is not encyclopedic and it uses weasel words and peacock terms. This is an encyclopedia so please try to write in a less sports journalistic tone and more an encyclopedic tone. T REXspeak 22:31, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

I usually think to myself; how would the opposite side write this? You wrote:

Rocky

Everything has been deleted, the bio looks pathetic now, also, do you know any good sports administrators, so we can return to correct version? Today Nov 1st the page has been terribly vandalized. They do not know any history. This guy is still reverting you got to do something.

2006 Indianapolis Colts season

Thank you for your game summary of the New England game. While I'm a Colts fan (have been since the Jeff George days), I nonetheless believe that your summary was written in a tone inappropriate for an encyclopedia. For example, phrases such as "Fortunately, rookie RB Joseph Addai would answer right back with a 2-yard TD run." and "On defense, they did an incredible job" are clearly violations of Wikipedia's NPOV policy.

Also, and don't take this personally, but your writing style is rather choppy and immature. Perhaps you could take a look at some of the articles listed at Wikipedia:Featured Articles for some examples of the writing style we generally use at Wikipedia.

2006 Kansas City Chiefs season

Thank you for your game summary, but please do not delete the references from the Week 12 Denver Broncos game. Also please refrain from using so many capitalizations i.e. "The Offense Returns In October." is actually written as "The offense returns in October."
