Greetings,

I think I'll wait to create my own user page until (or if) I get my bearings. If were to, I'd probaly lean heavily on your suggestions and examples.

There appears to be a possible error in the infobox for the deHavilland Chipmunk. The number produced lists 1075 with hot-linked reference. I went to the reference and added up the total number of the different models and came up with 1230. Am I missing something? In any event I have no idea how to edit the infobox. Aracfi (talk) 17:44, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, back, sort of, anyway

[edit]

I'm kind of back, kind of never left. My schedule varies so much from quarter to quarter and year to year that my editing is always in fits and starts. I just sneaked in a little here in the past day or two, though I'm still otherwise quite busy and may not do very much of substance for some months to come. Always nice to exchange thoughts with you. —SkipperPilot (talk) 04:34, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Withdrawing from the project

[edit]

Basically I've got fed up of the efforts of a few editors to bully their way past consensus - just look at the current state of Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Aircraft. I thought it sensible to withdraw to avoid saying something I would regret.Nigel Ish (talk) 21:53, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

CH-113 Labrador & CH-124 Sea King

[edit]

Greetings Adam, Shouldn't these articles' titles be lead with the aircraft's manufacturer's names?Aracfi (talk) 07:17, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I assume you think your first edit summary was civil then?

[edit]

lol bud 72.0.180.2 (talk) 01:30, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it was civil. Ahunt, don't worry too much about this guy. His stated purpose on his talk page is to be disruptive, and he is cetainly being that! - BillCJ (talk) 01:58, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Beechcraft Premier II

[edit]

Someone just added info on the new Beechcraft Premier II to the Beechcraft Premier I page. My question is, are thes arecraft close enough that we should rename the page Beechcraft Premier, or should we make a Beechcraft Premier II page? I'm honestly asking, because I really don't know. I'm OK with either option as long at it best reflects the proper relationship between the I and II. Thanks. - BillCJ (talk) 01:58, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK, thanks. It seemed to me they were the same basic aircraft too, but I wanted to get a second, more-knowledgeable opinion, since you are more familar with the civil types than I am. As short as the existing page is now, I don't foresee it becoming too big in the near futrue, but ya never know! I'll move the page shortly. - BillCJ (talk) 03:55, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Eclipse 400

[edit]

[1]. Something to toss on the "Articles to Write" list? 70.116.9.52 (talk) 00:33, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

From the pictures, this looks like the Eclipse ECJ. Is it? If they are basically the same plane, then we can just move it to Eclipse 400. If the 400 is going to vary to a maior degree, then a new article would be best. As above, I don't know enough about them to make a knowledgable decision. - BillCJ (talk) 00:44, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes those are the same plane Eclipse ECJ = Eclipse 400, at least now it is! It seems that they finally gave it a model number, now that they have committed production and price, etc. Bill: Do you want to make that move? - Ahunt (talk) 00:58, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Adam - I was just wondering whether you'd be open to nomination for adminship? You've certainly been here long enough to have a handle on how things work and definitely have the right attitude. Let me know. --Rlandmann (talk) 21:44, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. The offer remains open, though - so if at some point in the future you feel you'd like to take up the mop and bucket, let me know and I'd be very glad to nominate you (or, you could of course nominate yourself). Either way, I think you know you could count on the support of most WP:AIR denizens. Cheers --Rlandmann (talk) 23:04, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DayJet

[edit]

I have removed the links and text and had a tidy up they appears to be SPAM and COI issues with the additions being made (the IP is from the same location as DayJets HQ!). I will add it to my watchlist and keep an eye on it. The article already has a link to dayjet.com and anything else is SPAM and being used for to promote a non-notable scheme! Specifications

[edit]

Noticed you are using Template:Aircraft specifications in your new aircraft articles, nothing wrong with that but I find the newer Template:Aerospecs a lot easier to use. MilborneOne (talk) 22:17, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK I find aerospecs easier to use a quick look at RU-38 and I suspect the lack of engine power upsets it. MilborneOne (talk) 22:34, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If your OK with it when you next create an aircraft in your sandbox let me know and I'll come and try aerospecs in it. MilborneOne (talk) 22:41, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ive had a go in your sandbox - I had to invent an engine power, otherwise the engine doesnt display! see what you think for your next aircraft article - its midnight in this part of the world now - goodnight. MilborneOne (talk) 22:55, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Embraer MLJ/MSJ

[edit]

Adam, I need a spot-check when you can. Embraer has renamed the Embraer MLJ and Embraer MSJ, per this link. The Embraer website now lists the Legacy 450 and 500, so we need to move the MLJ and MSJ pages to the new names. However, their site is unclear as to which models were the MLJ and MSJ, and the news story is a bit obtuse. An IP user tried to make some changes to the Embraer MLJ page a few days ago, but really seemed to have not known what they were doing. I don't want to make the same mistake, because it will be a bear to change if I move them to the wrong new names.

Can you double-check this for me?

  • MLJ - Legacy 450
  • MSJ - Legacy 500

Thanks! - BillCJ (talk) 18:51, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I'll move them shortly. - BillCJ (talk) 20:02, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A long-time editor, though one I have not run into before, has created the CT-134 Musketeer page. It needs alot of work as written, infobox, etc., but I thought I'd run it by you first. - BillCJ (talk) 06:42, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Uh, I think it was my fault: I never removed the "Split" tags from when we discussed this last year! Oops! - BillCJ (talk) 06:59, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Seriously. I have nothing displayed on the picture side of my Cadets boxes as protest against not being able to use the various cadet organization badges due to the overly paranoid fair use policy. And considering how I've heard that most army cadet corps don't do much out of their dress uniforms these days, a patch of CADPAT doesn't really seem appropriate, anyway. So I'm changing it back. --coldacid (Talk|Contrib) 12:11, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I appreciate what you did to the article, but it is really necessary to tag it like that? Couldn't you use e.g. one per headline, and not one for every single paragraph? It just looks weird. -- 77.12.203.225 (talk) 21:11, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

UBXP member list cleanup

[edit]

Might be a good idea to shuffle anyone who hasn't editing in over 6 months onto an inactive list or something, or even just comment out their names. –xeno (talk) 13:28, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind, I think this is what you're already doing, but you might just want to put "User inactive" rather than user no longer exists. The users still exist =) –xeno (talk) 13:32, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've got no problem with you cleaning the list, and actually think it will be helpful, but just keep in mind that just because the user doesn't have a user page doesn't mean they don't exist - check their contribs. Most of these people are retired (who had their user and talk pages deleted when they left), so just put "removed inactive user" - just for clarity. –xeno (talk) 13:36, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Accounts are never deleted (possibly renamed...). See for example Special:Contributions/Ifnord and Special:Contributions/lcarsdata, the accounts both still exist, they just don't have user pages. –xeno (talk) 13:42, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Since they're both inactive (retired I think), I totally endorse removing them, but the edit summary "removed inactive user" would be more accurate. –xeno (talk) 13:45, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. I'm trying to sort out the list to replace the simple username display with a username/talk/contrib display. –xeno (talk) 14:01, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Well until I get it sorted please do feel free to continue as you were, just use the more descriptive edit summary of "removed inactive user". =) –xeno (talk) 14:28, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • Cool, nice work. I've been trying to sort out a way to link to contribs like Xenocidic (talk · contribs) but there's too many people with custom sigs, I'm afraid it would maek the page look super ugly or just take me too long. So I guess we'll just leave it with the changes you made =) –xeno (talk) 14:59, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Leading edge slot

[edit]

Hi Ahunt. On 15 July I amended Leading edge slot to incorporate extra text. One of the sentences I added was:

Full-span slots and slats are not widely used because they usually necessitate long undercarriage legs that either cause high drag, or are longer than can be accommodated easily inside the airframe.

To support this sentence I added the following citation:
Kermode, A.C., Mechanics of Flight, Figures 6.6 and 6.7

On 23 July you deleted the above sentence, writing unsourced text removed, even though the sentence was supported by citation of Kermode’s book. Why did you do that? I am puzzled.

You deleted the sentence, but you did not delete its supporting citation of Kermode’s book. The resulting juxtaposition of the reference to Kermode’s book, and the preceding paragraph about the Storch, Zenair, and the primary purpose of slots suggested Kermode’s book was the source for the paragraph. (That was incorrect so I deleted the reference to Kermode’s book until I could ascertain why you regarded my sentence as unsourced text.)

I think the most likely explanation for the above is haste. I see you have added a reference to the Dictionary of Aeronautical Terms. That is good, but you have referred to staling angle rather than stalling angle.

You are making multiple edits at intervals of 3, 4 or 5 minutes. Can I suggest you slow down, check your edits before saving, and get them right first time? Happy editing. Dolphin51 (talk) 23:53, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks - to be quite honest, I was a little nervous about what your reaction might be.

At risk of indulging in a little mutual admiration here, I'd like to also just say that in the course of that work, I was really impressed by the thoroughness of your coverage of the Schweizer types. I'd been vaguely aware of these articles, but having read each and every one of them in turn, I've only now realised what a great corpus of work they represent. More Schweizer

[edit]

At the moment, the List of military aircraft of the United States includes a short-lived (1960-62) designation letter of "S" for "sailplane". I haven't been able to verify this anywhere else, but since the two designations supposedly assigned (S-1 and S-2) were to Schweizer types, I just wondered whether you had come across this in your research on this manufacturer? --Rlandmann (talk) 22:21, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I agree that it sounds odd, but not quite implausible enough to call "BS" on without further research. I'll do a bit more digging! --Rlandmann (talk) 22:59, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! because we've now got a 3-or-4-way conversation going, I'll make further responses on my talk page :) --Rlandmann (talk) 22:19, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image guidelines

[edit]

Good thinking on this proposal, I hope it gets implemented after it is thrashed out and everyone (or most everyone!) agrees. The info box edit warring in many aircraft articles is saddening, especially the recent removal of a fantastic image from Supermarine Spitfire after only one editors 'unique reasoning'. I thought recently about a solution involving voting for the info box image and once it is there it could not be questioned again. Probably a bit drastic but it would stop a lot of unnecessary typing!! Did you fly 'Hueys' at Goose Bay? Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:EuropaLogo.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Hi Ahunt! I'm glad you liked my restoration of Canard (aeronautics). I hope to find more info on the subject in the coming weeks. A month or two ago I tried to start a debate on the sad state of Balanced flight. So far no-one has added anything. I would be grateful if you would have a look at my comments on the Talk page. Green Hawk

[edit]

Hi! Thank for proofreading Kaset Green Hawk article. I accepts that I do not know some rules of wiki so your comment is help. :) However, some issues still need to be addressed and if you have time please visit discussion page of Kaset Green Hawk. Thank you for your help! ^ ^ Analayo (talk) 17:28, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

McGuinty photo

[edit]

Hey there, I was at that all candidates meeting. In fact, that's me in the Nordiques hat in the background! Good work though, nice pic! -- Earl Andrew - talk 15:46, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It certainly is a small world. I've taken a few politicians' photos too (Mauril Belanger, Peter Julian, Marion Dewar, Alex Munter), but never got one of my MP for so many years (McGuinty). As you can tell from the orange blotch on my sweater, I am working on the NDP candidate's campaign. I see you caught the back of his head in the photo. McGuinty is an interesting fellow, but I'll leave it at that ;) -- Earl Andrew - talk 16:11, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Don't think he would reach notability requirements, unfortunately. -- Earl Andrew - talk 17:51, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Recent Joomla! Page changes

[edit]

Ahunt -

Thank you for cleaning up the Joomla! page. I agree with the removal of forum post links. The forum posts were added in response to repeated (and continuing) allegations by Elamic (that he has not substantiated) to show what really happened at the time.

Based on the changes you made, I request that you also consider removing the following due to A) a lack of relevance; and B) a lack of substantiation (which had been provided by the forum links):

On August 18 2005, Andrew Eddie called for community input on suggested names for the project. The core team indicated that it would make the final decision for the project name based on community input. The name the core team eventually chose was not on the list of suggested names provided by the community.

On September 7, 2005, the development team called for logo submissions from the community, invited the community to vote on the logo preferred, and announced the community's decision on September 22, 2005. Following the logo selection,

Those additional corrective edits would then leave in place the following two statements about the name and logo choices. I believe that would provide adequate coverage of the event with clear statements in a neutral point of view:

On September 1, 2005 the new name, "Joomla", was announced, which is the English spelling of the Swahili (Arabic:جملة ,and Urdu: جملہ ) word jumla meaning "all together" or "as a whole" [8]. Brand guidelines, a brand manual, and set of logo resources were published on October 2, 2005 for the community's use.[9]

Thank you for consideration of my request. 64.89.180.240 (talk) —Preceding undated comment was added at 02:37, 10 October 2008 (UTC).[reply]

I am glad that you thought the clean-up was an improvement. Having re-read the article I think the paras you mentioned ought to stay, if only because they add to a dramatic story. We still need some better sourcing, however. - Ahunt (talk) 10:52, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, in a free software community, forum posts and blogs tend to be the source of authority. I do not know what else we would use for source documentation. Your comment about the "dramatic story" made me smile. And yet, absent any substantiation, I fear the remarks promote a negative POV and are not a substantive part of the definition of 'What is Joomla!.' I don't see it meeting the guidelines that 'Encyclopedic content must be verifiable.' Do you? Thanks, again. AmyStephen (talk) 03:02, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I apologize for not signing my original post. I am not very experienced with Wikipedia and thought I was logged on. AmyStephen (talk) 03:03, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Amy - glad you figured out the signature thing! On the blogs as references: you are quite right, often that is all there is. The main problem is that they are self published sources and so anyone can write just about anything. There is some guidance in the Wikipedia policy on this at WP:SPS. Overall I would say if you can find a better ref then great, if not then leave it and and see if anyone objects. - Ahunt (talk) 11:51, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for that link to the Wikipedia policy. I certainly can understand the point. It's a difficult line to draw, but there is, of course, a difference between a quote from a personal blog with no oversight of community participation, and the postings of an official member of a project team on a forum with hundreds of thousands of participants. In a sense, it is the same argument some use to discount the value of the Wikipedia. Having said that, I think your advise is appropriate and the clean up you have made was helpful. We'll watch and see where things go from here. Thanks again. AmyStephen (talk) 22:18, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

.. the information .. on the Elfe PM-3 .. seems to contradict the US FAA registry data.

Just goes to show the FAA data can't always be relied upon; the record for N6351U shows it is still assigned, but "SALE REPORTED".

PA-XX disambigs

[edit]

No problem, my main goal this time was to make sure that XX ## and XX-## lead, somehow, to the congressional districts; having disambig pages works for that. :) This was just one man's strange crusade to get that done, I'm sure a lot of them can be dabbed better than I've done it. --Golbez (talk) 20:08, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. Not sure why the need to make up numbers. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 14:35, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:"Finally I found a group that has the same interests as me!"

[edit]

By the way, thanks for changing the image for this into a free use one. I guess the laws here are different than the US, because here, you can use logos in any way as long as they are not changed/destroyed. Speaking of userboxes, do you think this is better or this better if I wanted to make a userox about Firefox? Leujohn (talk, contribs) 12:31, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RV-8A and RV-12 photos

[edit]

After uploading my RV-12 photo I was reading information on adding an infobox Aircraft and by the time figured it out you had already added the infobox to the RV-12 page. :-)

If you google the tail number you'll find the site I contribute aircraft photos on. If there's something there that you liked added to Wikipedia just ask. I'm currently looking for my odd-ball aircraft photos looking for additions to Wikipedia.

MinWin

[edit]

Straight from the horse's mouth -- MinWin is present in Windows 7. After you'd decided to engage in quite a lot of argument over whether this was the case earlier this year, I figured you'd appreciate knowing the final score. I've written a new article on the subect, MinWin, which will hopefully clear up some of the confusion about the use and re-use of the word "MinWin" to describe a portion of Windows. Thank You

[edit]

Thanks a ton for the barnstar. Love seeing those shiny things on my talk page. :) Anyways, as you have probably seen, I am not actively involved in editing of articles here. But I do come here regularly. So, if you need any help, suggestion or a pair of extra eyes for anything, ask without any hesitation :) I am an admin too, so I can help with privileged chores too. :-P --soum talk 17:51, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
