[edit]

Hello! I'm new to editing wikipedia and am still learning how to interface with the editing of articles on wikipedia. I was drawn to correcting some pages of operas based on my dissertation. I'm working on the performance and reception of French Operas in New York City by the New Orleans French Opera Company between 1827 and 1845.

Welcome to the Wikipedia opera editors group. Your special area of expertise will be useful for us. If you haven't already been there, check out the Wikipedia:WikiProject Opera page and sign on. Also, take a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Opera/Article styles and formats where the group has developed a consensus on elements to be included in articles. You'll find it to be useful.
Also, thanks for your comments on my Talk page re: the Auber opera. Not having a resource to which to refer and without any comment by the anonymous editor on the article's talk page, the subsitution of the first name before "Calve" appeared to be vandalism. I'm glad that you can correct that with a proper reference in due course.
Happy editing! Viva-Verdi (talk) 15:40, 17 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your edit is correct. I made an error when I added this originally. But your comment is incorrect, since the source (Lawrence 1988, p. 214) definitely identifies the singer as Julie Calvé. In fact, there is even a footnote in Lawerence cautioning against confusing the singer with Emma Calvé! I must have been half asleep at the time or the footnote somehow inspired my brain to commit this perverse error! --Robert.Allen (talk) 23:06, 17 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ah yes! Lawrence has it as well. I've been using primary sources and an article on the New Orleans French Opera Company that my brain went immediately to them. I'll leave the footnote. Thanks. Jchjw (talk) 01:07, 18 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
