List of mathematicians

[edit]

I gave two replies at talk:List of mathematicians. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 14:16, 16 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

More of the same

List of mathematicians, again

[edit]

I noticed you remove duplicate articles from that list. That is very good, nobody needs duplicates. However, it is good that you click on the links before you remove them. If a mathematician shows up twice in the list because there are two articles about him (say with the name spelt differently), then even if you remove one of the two entries about the mathematician, my bot will put it back.

For example, in the list we now have

Joost Buerghi

and

Joost Bürgi.

To make my bot not put both names in the list, one of these two articles must be made a redirect to the other. I made now Joost Buerghi a redirect to Joost Bürgi.

Thank you for the help with that list. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 01:09, 21 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Peter Armitage

[edit]

Note that my bot put Peter Armitage back in the List of mathematicians. This because he is categorized in the statistics category, and statisticians are, as we all know, mathematicians. :)

This is one of the disadvantages of having a bot update the lists. A bot can do a lot of work, but it is not smart enough. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 04:22, 22 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Nikolay N.Bogolyubov (Russian mathematician)

[edit]

My bot removed Nikolay N.Bogolyubov (Russian mathematician) from the list of mathematicians because it was basically the same as the name of another mathematician, Nikolay N.Bogolyubov except for the part "(Russian mathematician)". I think you should consider renaming one of the two mathematicians to something less similar (like one of them being Nikolay N.Bogolyubov and the second simply Nikolay Bogolyubov or something. I don't know a good suggestion. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 06:32, 27 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ukrainian mathematicians

[edit]

If you would like to move Ukrainian mathematicians to List of Ukrainian mathematicians, I could help. I don't care either way. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 01:45, 30 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

List of mathematicians, one more time

[edit]

I replied on my talk page, in poor Russian. Also note that I replaced the "-" with "–" (ndash) in the list of mathematicians. If you write there

1934–1999

or

1934-1999

my bot will automatically replace it by

1934–1999

More on mathematicians

[edit]

See Talk:List of mathematicians#Fighting my bot. Let us have any discussion there. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 17:38, 22 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Honcharov. You seem to find it comfortable to stick mostly to apolitical mathemitacal topics which is quite understandable in view of the ongoing fights that are roaring here right now.

But in any case, I thought you might be interested, that there exists a Ukraine portal at Wikipedia, created my several Ukrainian editors (myself included) who take interest in the topic. Despite being called "anti-Ukrainian" by fringe nationalists like AndriyK and Andrew Alexander, I do love my country and wrote much for many topics before having to deal with Andriy's mess started to take up so much of my time. Please see my user page if you would like to read and correct my articles. There was a lively, although small, community of Ukrainian editors here of which myself and user:Mzajac where the most active ones. Also, largely thanks to user:Sashazlv we even have one Featured Article in en-wiki on a Ukrainian topic (the Hero of Ukraine). Also, Ghirlandajo and Mikkalai, despite being labeled by AndriyK, contributed a wealth of information to Ukrainian topics. With Ghirlandajo, I had particularly many differences over issues, because he writes mostly from the Russian perspective while I write from a moderate Ukrainian one. However, we always resolved the differences in cordial discussions and were able to come up with the reasonable solution.

Anyway, I would like to welcome you again and feel fee to ask if you have any questions. You can also email me using "email this user" link where you can write in Ukrainian or in Russian if you prefer. Regards, --Irpen 17:55, 26 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

List of mathematicians

[edit]

Calling my bot stupid will not help.

Ia tebe scazal mnogo raz, nujno izmeniti categoriyu v statie ob Gaussa. Togda v tom spiske strana izmenitsa takje. Ne budi upryamym.

I made it clear what you need to do. Put Gauss in Category:Holy Roman Empire mathematicians. Please go first and ask at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Mathematics if people agree.

Opiati, dratsa s moim botom ne imeiet smisla. Ty edinstvennyi chelovek cotoromu sushestvuyushii poradoc ne nravitsa. Sprosi na stranichke Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Mathematics o tom chto ty hochesti zdelati novoyu categoriyu Category:Holy Roman Empire mathematicians, and skaji tam chto ty ne hocheshi chtoby moi bot izmenyal stranu v tom spiske. Esli drugie liudy skajut chto tak nado, ya izmenyu. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 19:45, 6 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I replied on my talk page. About Arnold's entry, if you don't like the order "Russia/Soviet Union", you need to change that order in the article Vladimir Arnold and then it will propagate to the list of mathematicians. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 18:53, 7 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
