[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Gabriellle.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

Holocaust Cruelty
[edit]I did not and do not propose that the article be deleted. A request for expert attention is by no means a request for deletion. A request for expert attention means that someone who has a better knowledge of the subject will suggest what other course of action to take.
That said, i do have some objections to the article, which are already mentioned on the articles talk-page. V. Joe 15:42, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
- Please don't object, it took me weeks to write that, and I'm only new to Wikipedia, perhaps you could show me the ropes and suggest ways for me to improve my article?

Holocaust
[edit]Hi, I notice that you made some major changes to article on The Holocaust, most of which was finding citations, which is great. However, in a couple of places you removed sizeable chunks of text, in particular the section dealing with the functionalism / intentionalism debate. I assume you did this because those sections were uncited (it would help if you provided edit summaries, saying why you are making a particular edit) but it is not generally a good idea to remove big sections without discussion on the talk page first. This is doubly true for sensitive subjects like the Holocaust. For this reason I have undone some of your edits, replacing the sections on children, functionalism / intentionalism, Klaus Barbie and Aribert Heim. I've added {{fact}} tags to the latter two. Cheers, Squiddy | (squirt ink?) 16:22, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry I didnt see the need for functionalism and intentionalism to be there, and if it was it should be much smaller, and i deleted the children thing because i wrote it first and worded it badly, i was re-wording it and then gonna put it in with sources that could be cited
- I sort of agree that the length of the functionalism and intentionalism section is excessive, since it's longer than the Functionalism versus intentionalism article, but still probably best to bring it to the article talk page first. Something that long is likely to have been worked on by many editors over a period of time. Squiddy | (squirt ink?) 10:19, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
Hi again, I'm not sure what's going wrong, but your 'cite web' templates seem to be malformed; They come out as:
- Error on call to Template:cite web: Parameters url and title must be specified.
I think you need to put
|title of web page
before the final }}. You can look at the result of your editing with the 'show preview' button. Cheers, Squiddy | (squirt ink?) 21:18, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
- I have done and its coming out fine, or at least it does when i hit the show preview button. Wikipedia hates me :-(
POTD
[edit]Hi and thanks for creating the POTD for February 24. However, this image isn't going to be scheduled until much later. The PsOTD are selected from the Featured Pictures and are scheduled in order of promotion (the order is preserved on Wikipedia:Featured pictures thumbs). You happened to come upon it in a weird point. The last "new" one in order was done on February 21 (trench warfare). Then I scheduled a rerun on the 22nd (we do 2 old ones a week to make sure we don't run out), then on the 23rd there's a bird which should have come earlier, but I delayed that one because we just had another House Sparrow on January 21. Thus, the one that's supposed to go on the 24th is the chipmunk picture. The Titanic pic is 61 places behind it, which is almost three months away. Regards, howcheng {chat} 21:32, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:Titanic grand staircase.gif
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Titanic grand staircase.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 10:55, 25 February 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. |EPO| 10:55, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

- Hi, have you read the guidelines yet? I know you are eager to get the FP you nominated onto POTD, but it's still 19 pictures away, so please be patient. The Titanic pic won't be up for POTD until May 2. Thanks. howcheng {chat} 01:02, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

Please stop. If you continue to delete or blank page contents or templates from Wikipedia, as you did to The Holocaust, you will be blocked from editing. Gwernol 19:38, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
- What, well why was the article allowed to become so, politely, thorough? I'll stop but it really does need to be made more incisiveAhadland 19:41, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
- Incisive means direct, not necessarily short. Some subject require extensive coverage to fully document them. If you are going to make major changes to an article, especially one as controversial as The Holocaust, you need to discuss it first on the talk page. As noted above, the sub-articles you created have a number of problems: the references are broken, they don't cover just the subjects you have titled them for and by pushing some information out of the main article you may introduce bias into the coverage of the subject. For these reasons it is very important that you discuss your proposed changes. As you can see, you assumption that "people would have approved" isn't a good one in this case. Thanks, Gwernol 19:46, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
- So, you think the article is an appropriate size? Ahadland 19:49, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Answers to your Reference Desk questions
[edit]...regarding Nazi-era photos of Jews being humiliated, have already been provided there by myself and others. Have you followed up by reading the material suggested to you, before repeating your queries? The rapid posting of your query on my User talk page indicates to me that you haven't.
More to the point, perhaps, are the nature of your assertions and speculations about the photographed spectators' motives and behaviors, and your stated difficulty in understanding such. These seem to me quite inconsistent with the information you've provided about yourself on your recently created User page, particularly your being an Ashkenazic Jewish young adult residing in an English-speaking Western country, a Mensa member familiar with contemporary television programs, etc. You evidently have Internet access and are literate, so any gaps in your education regarding knowledge of human behavior, society, history, etc. can certainly be remedied.
If your questions are rhetorical, I would again refer you to factual sources already provided. If you're looking for discussion: while the proper venue in Wikipedia would indeed be on the User talk pages, kindly understand that I myself am not available to engage in such, beyond my replies on the Reference desk. -- Thank you, Deborahjay 00:45, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
- Im sorry its just that the topic really ticks me off, and I want to understand why people accepted what was happening, because Im Jewish, and naturally would like to understand why my people are being made to suffer --User:Ahadland1234 11:56, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
- As I read your questions: you seek to understand (a) why non-Jews (e.g. the onlookers in the photos) "accepted" [as you purport, which I contend can't be known from the photos) what was happening, and (b) why Jews (e.g. inhabitants of ghettos being liquidated, or sent on transports to extermination camps) acquiesced to what was being done to them. You will find the answers by reading the Wikipedia pages on these and related topics (accessible by internal links), along with the many books, both fiction and nonfiction, recommended to you in response to your queries on the Reference desk. Numerous users here have offered you helpful guidance and significant ideas; now I believe it's time for you to follow through by studying and learning. You may also find it valuable to talk with people in your community, such as a rabbi or history teacher, or in Internet forums on these topics. -- Good luck, Deborahjay 12:41, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
- On the other pictures i put up there are clearly people forming a ring, and smiling, this is, in my view, people supporting the events. And you misinterpreted my second question, I wondered why non-ghetto inhabitants didn't wonder why the ghettos had suddenly become quiet. Wouldnt it strike them as strange that one minute the ghetto's are crowded and full of hustle and bustle, and the next they are deathly silent? I know that that sort of occurrence would perplex me --User:Ahadland1234 14:37, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
- I think it would be fair to say that the ghettos' neighbors — people who had lived for years under Nazi occupation during the world war — would not be so perplexed as you seem to suppose. If you don't understand this yet, evidently your previous education has failed to provide you some very basic understanding of 20th century warfare and European history. Fortunately, a great deal of information is available to remedy this. Your lack of comprehension is likely to be dispelled when you go read about WWII as you have been repeatedly told. As for the smiling bystanders, let's think of some possibilities besides those that have already been raised in previous, lengthy discussion:
- The picture was staged
- The people are Nazi sympathizers
- They are experiencing schadenfreude
- I think the time has come to end this discussion, as I really have nothing more to add. Perhaps you should contact your local Mensa chapter for further academic guidance should you require any.-- Hope this helps, Deborahjay 15:08, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

- Forgive me but this script reads like you think I'm a moron, which I am not. Our history lessons didn't devote much time as to why people who lived near the ghetto's weren't shocked by them being liquidated, subsequently, you havent answered my question either regarding that. I am only sixteen and do not understand why citizens would just watch while people are being shot by the Einsatzgruppen, or persecuted. My question is simple, why do people let this sadism occur. And thus far, I've received only a limited number of adequate reponses. As to why the people in the pictures are smiling what you have said makes sense, but how would you stage something like that, and if it were staged that shows that Nazi policy had little widespread support, so the photographs wouldn't have been used. Other than that your answer is very nice. --User:Ahadland1234 17:04, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
- First of all: staging photos with costumed actors is easy enough, and remember that the mass media in WWII-era Europe was by no means as developed as today's, and was controlled besides. By the time the ghettos were liquidated (1941 –1944), the Nazis' murderous practices aimed at civilian populations were familiar and hard to combat, resistance (incl. partisan and underground) movements being the exception. I would say overall: simple (and fair) questions of ethics and human nature have long occupied far greater minds than mine, and with no conclusive (or brief) answers. Please accept my apology for the exasperated tone you noted in my later remarks, and this explanation: I am deeply concerned at the prospect that an intelligent young person educated in a Western democracy nowadays would have such difficulty accepting the fact (as I and many see it, though not the Holocaust deniers) of apparent or actual failure to oppose the Nazis during their ascent and regime. Or perhaps you are expressing a form of moral outrage? We may consider warfare and terrorism to be two major failures of the human race to behave humanely: the victimization of the weak by the stronger, brutalizes and dehumanizes both. For all the reasons and explanations given for antisemitism, none seem to help neutralize, let alone eradicate it. Studying the lessons of the Holocaust will confront you with untold horrors and terrors, but you will learn much. The difficult part is finding how to make a difference for good, but I can assure you that this is sorely needed, and worthwhile. For what it's worth, I think you're asking the right questions; I wish more people would. -- Yours truly, Deborahjay 21:22, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Okay
[edit]Thats fine. I can see you've been editing since August 12, 2006, so even though you have a majority of wiki-space edits, I trust you know the quintessential basics of editing. With this in mind, do you know the basics of images? If not I'd suggest we start there. Otherwise, I'd suggest we start with Wikipedia process. Are you interested in learning about process? If not, do you JUST want to edit articles, or what? Just tell me about this, and then I can better understand what it is that we should start with. Cheers. - I know how to do pictures. I'd just like to learn some of the more complex procedures. --User:Ahadland1234 23:35, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
Hi, I noticed you added the {{FPCresult}} template to this nomination yesterday. Did you intend to close it? --KFP (talk | contribs) 15:00, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
- Yeh but then I remembered that that tool was for administrators or something. Sorry --User:Ahadland1234 18:01, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, it's not admin-only and new closers are welcome. However, I don't see a clear consensus at Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/Bezier curves on whether to promote the all-in-one version or the separate versions as a set yet. --KFP (talk | contribs) 20:34, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
Image tagging for Image:Titanic-sinking.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Titanic-sinking.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Please note the closing procedure for successful FPC noms, otherwise people won't know that it's featured. Yes I know it's tedious (that's why I don't do it). I've already shoved it off to the archive and changed the template on the image description page to {{FeaturedPicture}}. MER-C 06:05, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:Sw1-DesertDuel.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Sw1-DesertDuel.jpg.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 13:09, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
Unspecified source for Image:Quigonheadshot.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Quigonheadshot.jpg.
If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 13:19, 11 April 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. feydey 13:19, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
AfD nomination of Form IV: Ataru (Lightsaber combat)
[edit]I've nominated Form IV: Ataru (Lightsaber combat), an article you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but in this particular case I do not feel that Form IV: Ataru (Lightsaber combat) satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion; I have explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Form IV: Ataru (Lightsaber combat) and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Form IV: Ataru (Lightsaber combat) during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. Sandstein 12:27, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

READ THIS - FIRST AND ONLY WARNING!
[edit]Most or all of your image contributions appear to be in violation of our copyright policy. They are unsourced and/or appear to be falsely labeled as GFDL, when it appears much more likely that they have been copied from some commercial source (e.g. Image:339px-ZuckussEGC.jpg, Image:436px-JustissSW89.jpg). You have so far ignored the copyright messages left at this talk page, above. You have 24 hours as of this message to clean up all your uploaded images, that is, add correct and complete source and licencing information to all of them, and to request the deletion of any copyvio images by adding {{db-author}} to them. If you fail to do this, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Sandstein 20:59, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

- You have to realize that Wikipedia admins are always getting challenged when they're trying to do their jobs. If you don't put a valid copyright tag on an image, and you've been repeatedly asked to do so, it's looked upon as disruptive. I will admit that Sandstein's language may have been a little harsh, especially the upper casing, but he's probably having a bad day. :) Try asking him on his Talk page what it is that he's asking for. :) Corvus cornix 21:18, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
- And he has to realize that most ordinary people dont like having stupid messages left on their page. If I've allegedly ignored the messages perhaps its because I don't know how to change an images copyright. But of course, nobody has given that a second thought have they? --HadzTalk 21:22, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

The upper casing, although extraordinary, appeared necessary to get you to understand that we take copyright policy seriously here, given that you appear not to care in the least about it. I suggest you start cleaning up your images right now. There are plenty of instructions in the above messages about how to do it, or you can ask any admin - including me - if you have any questions. Any further incivilities will not be tolerated and will result in you being blocked. Sandstein 21:44, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
- Course its fair gain if you do it, thats why a lot of people on your talk page note how rude you are, and somebody even reported you for an abuse of power. So before you take the moral high-ground, do a thorough self-appraisal first. Also the wording of your argument I found out offensive using falsely in italics, and suggesting that I do it deliberately, don't once consider that I try and contribute, I mean why on earth would I want to do that. You were rude, and surprised when you got a reaction, well I don't tolerate crap. If you block me I'll just create another account, so, do your worst. --HadzTalk 21:47, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
- There is no need for pointless dramatics here, but there is an urgent need for you to read Wikipedia:Image use policy, which link has been provided for you several times above. "Falsely" was emphasised to indicate that the images are not actually GFDL, in which case there would have been no copyright violation. I do not know whether and did not imply that you mistagged the images out of malice or for any other reason, and if you clean them up in the 23 or so hours that remain, I do not care. Sandstein 21:55, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
- Im not being dramatic, im just saying don't lecture me, when your not perfect yourself. I don't know how to change the tags, sorry --HadzTalk 21:59, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
- I will continue to lecture you on our policies until you start getting your act together here, or until you end up blocked. If you don't know how to change the tags, read the instructions at Wikipedia:Image use policy and particularly WP:TAG. Put the correct tag on each and every image, and indicate the image's source (where is it from?) precisely, with a weblink if necessary. For fair use images, you must provide a fair use rationale for each and every use of the image. Read Help:Image_page#Fair_use_rationale about how to do that. Sandstein 22:14, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:YodaPalpsduel.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:YodaPalpsduel.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Rebelguys2 talk 17:44, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:579px-Zuckuss_Fett.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:579px-Zuckuss_Fett.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. — Rebelguys2 talk 17:48, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:J67iu.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:J67iu.jpg.
Thank you. — Rebelguys2 talk 17:54, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

More image action required
[edit]You are not yet done cleaning up after the mess of images you produced. As you will see from the above messages, the images now labeled as unfree are mostly not used in any articles, and they still lack any source. By source I mean: the book and page number they were published in, or the website from they were originally downloaded (i.e., not Wookieepedia).
You must remedy this or you must tag these images for deletion by adding the {{db-author}} tag to them.
You are responsible for uploading these images without reading our image use policy first. Now you are responsible for fixing them. I am extending your deadline for complying with our image use policy, as outlined above, by another 24 hours as of this message. If you do not comply, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Other sites that copy wikipedia
[edit]Yes I know it is pathetic how many sites such as answers.com copy everything to the very word but it isn't copywright because wikipedia is supposed to be freely distributable remember. The fact that other istes are now copying us shows how prominent wikipedia has become. Type in millions of different words on google and wikipedia always appears in the top 3 or four more often than not first or second, -this in turn attracts more people who see the greatness of the site and then continues to expand at an increasing rate!!! Imagine what wikipedia would look like if it was a book!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 09:01, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Copyright violation
[edit]You copied and pasted material from the Encyclopaedia Britannica into our article on The Holocaust on April 9. [1] See the EB article here. This was a copyright violation. If you've done this to any other article, I'd be grateful if you'd point it out, as it will save me time. I'm going to block this account in the meantime in case the plagiarism continues elsewhere; I'll be willing to unblock if you can give an assurance that this won't happen again. Nobody told me that Encyclopedia was a copyrighted source and even if it is no reason for an "indefinite block"; thats bloody crazy!
Decline reason:
No, you are blocked because it is apparent from this talk page that you don't care about violating copyrights, even after receiving very many warnings about it, and because you have not cleaned up the copyright mess you produced. — Sandstein 21:47, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
- Perhaps none of you lot have explained to me how to not block them, where is it made clear how to state your source, its hardly simple. Aww, as far as im concerned, Wikipedia can go fuck itself--HadzTalk 21:51, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

Missing image Image:Football pitch metric.svg
[edit]Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Football pitch metric.svg, by Strangerer, another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Football pitch metric.svg is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Image:Football pitch metric.svg, please affix the template {{hangon}}
to the page, and put a note on its talk page. This bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Image:Football pitch metric.svg itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. Thanks. --Android Mouse Bot 2 15:14, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
