Does "rubber pride" really have some special connection to the LGBTQ community? What's the evidence that heterosexuals are not proportionally represented? The page is not really meant to be a grab-bag of vaguely BDSM-related symbols... AnonMoos (talk) 00:37, 30 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The leather flag is not really the same, since there was a highly-organized and retrospectively famous subculture of Gay Leathermen in the 1960s and 1970s, but I've never heard the same of rubber devotees... AnonMoos (talk) 10:08, 30 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
True. shuld I move it to the other symbols secton? Agge.se (talk) 10:15, 30 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Please discuss further at Talk:LGBTQ symbols. AnonMoos (talk) 10:51, 30 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

BDSM rights flag images

[edit]

File:BDSM Rights Flag colour.svg is actually the same file as commons:File:BDSM-rights-flag-Tanos.svg, which I created in SVG vector form, and which Tanos then copied back over from Commons to his "official" site. The black-and-white one is a slight modification by Tanos of my SVG file. Anyway, the article BDSM Rights Flag was previously deleted (see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/BDSM Rights Flag...) AnonMoos (talk) 12:19, 30 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ops I hadn’t seen your file in commons before you linked me to the gallery and I had no idea that you had previously deleted a article about it. I found it when I was searching and compiling a list of "pride flags" and related symbols and thought that it cold be useful in that article and I added the link to give credit to wear I tock the text from. If you think that the section should be deleted feel free to do so if the section is deemed unrelevant. I have no connection to the bdsmrights site and added the flags only in a attempt to add relevant content to wikipedia. Agge.se (talk) 12:49, 30 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It's OK (except that I'm not an admin, and didn't delete the article, and argued against its deletion)... AnonMoos (talk) 13:51, 30 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. I'm sort of keeping an eye out on your user talk page now, because I recently started a discussion here. It would be when I haven't added any comments here very recently that you should be most careful to reply on my user talk page... AnonMoos (talk) 15:50, 30 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ok thank you. I started a Draft for a "List of pride flags and sexual identity symbols" I would realy like if you vould lock at it and give som coment when I have a more complet draft I will post a link hear in a day or two. Agge.se (talk) 15:55, 30 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello AnonMoos if you see this I finished my draft of List of pride flags and sexual identity symbols you are welcome to lock at it and tell me what you think and if you think that it could be useful to incorporate in the general wikipedia in the future. Agge.se (talk) 21:56, 30 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You've obviously done a lot of digging and turned up quite a bit of varied material. I'll reserve any detailed comments or specific edits until later, and just offer a little basic overall advice:
1) There should probably be an overall organization other than "flags" vs. "non-flags". I'm not completely sure how it would work out in detail, but probably all the lesbian symbols should be grouped together, all the "fetish" symbols not specific to any one conventional sexual orientation should be grouped together, etc. Then symbols of similar meaning would be grouped together more than is the case now.
2) Unfortunately, there are some people on Wikipedia who consider themselves to be some kind of "new article police", and sometimes deal high-handedly with new articles which they consider to be lacking in subject notability, sourcing, etc. Your article would probably be stronger if parts of it didn't seem to be a series of proposals by random people, each having their own individual personal website, and no real evidence that all these symbols are widely known or widely used. Not sure how this can be entirely fixed, but it's something to keep in mind and minimize if feasible.
3) I don't really think you want to incorporate almost the whole contents of the LGBTQ symbols article into your own article. That way, one of the two articles would effectively be redundant. This article seems to be about abstract or semi-abstract visual symbols, so the whole "minor and Historical symbols" section (which is not about 2D graphics) could probably be the first to go... another idea for "List of pride flags and sexual identity symbols"

[edit]

You might want to start by taking your article over to the http://www.londonfetishscene.com/wipi/index.php/Main_Page wiki. That wiki has problems with "fair use" images (due to being based in the UK instead of the US), and I don't think that SVG files are supported there yet, but in every other respect it would be much more welcoming of your article than Wikipedia is likely to be, without strict insistence on notability requirements.... File permission problem with File:Cowboy Fetish Flag.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Cowboy Fetish Flag.gif. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 11:46, 23 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Blank lines

[edit]

Please don't add multiple blank lines to articles, just for your viewing convenience. This can cause accessibilty issues, eg: for people who need to screen readers, etc. Thank you - wolf 04:33, 13 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

sure,
Though I want to say that I did not add it for my viewing convenience, if I only needed it for my own use I would just have used the preview I added the lines for everyone else to be able to actually see the full dataset without vertical scrolling.
If blank lines are not allowed it have to exist a proper way than to make that page don't squish the dataset, do you know what that way might be? Agge.se (talk) 08:08, 13 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, tables shown like this are unusable. 84.251.204.248 (talk) 18:41, 17 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
