Messages

Well, there is a discussion page for every article. Click the discussion tag at the top of the article's page. Also, you can leave a message for individual users just like you did for me, on my talk page. LMK if this answers your question. --DanielCD 21:22, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

Lot's of things are odd around here, but we just do what seems to work best. It's been decided that no signatures will go into the articles themselves; those can go on the talk/discussion pages. --DanielCD 21:27, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

ok that is easy enaugh. thanks again. Agathoclea 21:34, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

Chaldean flag

Hi Agathoclea,

Are you refering to the removal of the category at Template:User independent Assyria? This was done because of a request by Wikipedia's founder, Jimbo Wales. See his message here. --Khoikhoi 23:40, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

no I was referring to the wholesale recategorising of historical articles on ancient Babylonians [1] Agathoclea 23:43, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

Oh, then leave a message to User:Pylambert. --Khoikhoi 23:49, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

ok - just noticed you had reverted one of his changes that is why I followed into your page Agathoclea 23:51, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

As a matter of fact, the "Chaldeans" category included on the one hand articles about ancient Chaldea and on the other over present-day Chaldean catholics, unrelated to ancient Chaldea. And after reading the Chaldea and Chaldean articles, I doubt the ancient "Chaldeans" called themselves Chaldeans, so why not putting their kings in some Babylonian category ? Modern Assyrians/Chaldeans/Syriacs/Arameans keep trying to make people believe they're the inheritors of the ancient Babylonian empire, they even have a "Patriarch of Babylon", they could just as well claim to be named Babylonians. (P.S. please answer on the page of your correspondent, not on yours, it's easier) --Pylambert 23:59, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
I'm not interested in ancient Chaldeans, why should I crate a category about them, I'm not a specialist of antiquity. The solution would be, like for Assyria, to create a category Chaldea, no problem with me if you want to do that. --Pylambert 17:35, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

Do you know which articles have been removed?

Chaldeans

I am Chaldean and I'm obsessed with ancient Assyro-Babylonian history. Chaldean in Aramaic is Kaldu which was a title that meant Astrologer/Priest/Mathmetician basically someone experienced in the Ancient Arts and Sciences. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.15.7.70 (talkcontribs)

nice :-) I have been reading on the German wikkipedia that Chaldeans came from the area of Kuwait before moving onto Babylon - do you have an English source for that? also I'd be interrested in the English spelling of Bit-Yâkin what is said to be their original home. Transport in Germany is not the same as the Autobahns pages

Hi, I saw you modified the proposed expansion. I don't think the Page you suggest is equivalent to the many, many pages they have in the German Wiki covering that road system (one for each Autobahn and, I believe, Bundesstrasse as well). --Mmounties 21:34, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

Commons

You can link them directly from there. That's the nice thing. All the wikis can link to those. --Mmounties 17:02, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

Hi, below are the two lines in the town info box that you need to specify the image in. {{Infobox Town DE|
name=Renchen|
name_local=Grimmelshausenstadt|
image_coa =Wappen fehlt.jpg|
image_map =Karte_Renchen.png|140px|

These two images from the Renchen page I just did today are both in the Commons. You link them from any page like you would link an image that was loaded up to the en-wiki. If you click on the image in German, you'll see whether it's already in the Commons. If it is, you don't need to upload again. All you need to do is replace the German "Bild:" with the English "Image:" if you link from within the text. For the town info box, all you need to do is place the filename next to the equal sign on the respective line like I did on the two lines copied above. Hope this explains it a little better.
But now I have a question for you.  :) Did you create the navigation bar for Hof County? Can you tell me where I might find ones that may exist for some of the counties I work on? If not, I need to learn how to do this! And your help would be HUUUUGEly appreciated. :) --Mmounties 20:52, 19 February 2006 (UTC)
Hehehe, it's always the little things that drive you nuts. Thanks for the template info. --Mmounties 21:40, 19 February 2006 (UTC)
Just wanted to let you know, I was "yelled" at yesterday by an admin on the commons because I didn't save enough info with my images (now I'm just copying all that the German image has on its page) and that I didn't place them in categories. I spent quite a bit of time yesterday to go back over the images I had uploaded before and filled in the blanks (so to speak). So if you now use the commons, make sure you do that. It's a lot easier to do when you first get them in.  :) --Mmounties (Talk) 00:15, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

Hi, if you could put a post on this page under the "small font" item in support of my request for larger font size I'd really appreciate it. Thanks already for your help. --Mmounties 18:21, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

Would you like to help prep Sanssouci for FAC?

Hi Agathoclea, I've promised User:Trebor27trebor to help him turn the red links in this very good article into blue links. That's pretty much the only thing that's keeping the article from having a chance at becoming a FAC. I've asked him to list the needed articles on the Sanssouci Talk page so that we can share the work. He's completed the list and I thought it would be terrific if you'd decide to take part in the effort and help us with one or two of them. What do you say? --Mmounties (Talk) 05:00, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

I think the copy-right thing only applies to actual content and images on the articles, not the external links per se. I also think this is why they have LINKS to lyric sites (licensed or not) rather than incorporating the actual lyrics into the content. That said, let's look out for a "legal" one then - there are some around. Drdr1989 17:28, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

Roman invasion

Hello Agathoclea. I deleted that sentence because it seemed to imply that there was a formal Roman presence in Britain between Julius Caesar and Claudius' invasions. Evidence for this, as I understand it, is based on the claims made at the beginning of a recent series of Time Team [2]. This has since been examined [3] and the theory has disappeared rather swiftly. If you wished to state that Romans were in Britain prior to the military invasion then I could not disagree but felt that the sentence claiming that there was Roman "support [for] local rulers friendly to Rome or to protect trading posts suggests a military presence which is not attested. If you could specify the archaeological evidence that History Today cites then I would be pleased to reconsider my position but I am not aware of any other pre-Claudian occupation theories. As for your request that the article explores the pros and cons of the theory, I would support its re-inclusion once the evidence has been listed. Best wishes adamsan 21:13, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

Ah yes, I see it is the Chichester finds that inspired the article. Here's another critical piece describing what their actual evidence was [4].

I'll give the article a look. I'm not familiar with the drug terminology either, so I may move some of it to the talk page. But I think you are ok in what you did. Actually, it's so messy, I agree it's hard to tell what is and isn't vandalism. I would have been perplexed myself. Thanks for the message and I'll try to get some attention to it. Kind regards. --DanielCD 21:31, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

Whoops. Sorry. I'd not copied when I thought I had and thus pasted the wrong detail in before hitting "save". Yes, I should have put something in the edit summary. First time Vandalism

Please don't WP:BITE - a lot of people make mistakes first time / experiment but quicky stop when given a softer warning - no need to threaten with blocking right away. With proper coaching more people will become valued contributers. Agathoclea 23:47, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

I'm not sure which particular warning you considered biting the newcomers. But I will assess the last several {{bv}} warnings I have given.
Note also, though, that I do give less harsh warnings as well (see here, here, here, and here). In my opinion, using the {{bv}} template (which stands for "blatant vandalism") was appropriate in all four cases above since the actions prescribed were blantant, clear forms of vandalism. Although it is inappropriate to bite newcomers and chastise them for not understand how Wikipedia works, I stand by my belief that these four editors knew exactly what they were doing: trying to disrupt Wikipedia with harmful edits.
I hope you reconsider the allegation that biting and may Allah bless you in this world and the Hereafter. joturner 00:25, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

beaufort

Beaufort was born in Ireland, Liam gallagher for example is listed as english, but his parents where Irish. So why do you think that beaufort sould be listed as British? And why then haven't you already changed the List of Irish Victoria Cross recipients into List of British Victoria Cross recipients???Billtheking 13:54, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

If the fact that he may or not be Irish is getting in the way of major facts about the person I have a problem with nationalistic bias. Why don't you put birth and death location in the lead ... then people can make up their mind if he was Irish or not. But as a major feature (accomplishment) of his life was that he was an officer of the British navy. That was his choice and the basis for his fame as it was there he produced his famous charts. As far as the List of Irish Victoria Cross recipients is concerned the point is which British people of Irish birth/connection/location/whatever have achieved that distinction, so I have no problem with it apart from general reservations against Listcruft. Agathoclea 16:43, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

Trolling

Regarding your comment that I might look to keep an eye on your edits, I can assure you that I will do no such thing. Like any other editor, I have many articles on my watch list, but I am not in the habit of trolling through other editors contributions to check their "POV". I have no idea why User:Superdude99 decided to contact me regarding User:Alibabs - I have had no contact with S99 whatsoever. I am also at a loss as to why you decided to follow up S99's comment, as I am unaware of ever having any contact with you, let alone a POV dispute with you. Camillus (talk) 22:54, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

You replied that you merely wanted to show that the comment hadn't gone un-noticed. In that case, I would have thought it more appropriate if you had left the comment at User_talk:Superdude99, rather than involving me in it. Camillus (talk) 00:11, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

It should have not gone so far, but in the midst of a lot of vandalizm today and another editwar about Hitler being Catholic or not Haham hanuka (talk · contribs) got away with 5 reverts - the 4th would have been enaugh to get him banned for 24 hours. Categories

Hello,

I noticed that you deleted the Category:Firearm deaths from the 'Adolf Hitler' Article. I realize I also included the Category:Firearm suicides. I would like them both to be included. I am a researcher. If I want to call up a list of all Firearm Deaths, it is necessary for this to be included in an Article. If I want to call up just those suicides by firearm, it is necessary for this Category to be included in the Article. Including both Categories in the same Article makes both tasks much simpler for all of us.

Regards,

Michael David 19:23, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
Hello again,
It shouldn’t matter how many Categories a given Article falls under, if they are relevant to the subject so be it. Again, an Encyclopedia is primarily a research tool, and the convenience of the researcher must be in mind when it is constructed and maintained. I do not want to make a huge deal of this, but I do not see where it matters how may Categories a particular Article falls into – each needs to be included for it to be complete.
If all of the entries in a given Subcategory fed into the main Category, and this main Category could be viewed as a separate and complete list – this would be fine. But without this, if I wanted to have a list of all persons who were the victims of firearm deaths I would have to locate all of the subcategories, view each as a separate list and collate them myself. This seems rather foolish when this could be accomplished for me by including all of the relevant Articles into a main Category in the first place. In this way I could view all of them, or just a subset.
Regards,
Michael David 22:52, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
Hello,
I feel I owe you any apology. You were right - it isn't necessary to include the Main Category and the SubCategory in the same Article. It was pointed out to me, rather diplomatically, that there is such a tool called "Cat Scan" in Wikipedia. This does resolve my problem.
Thanks for you patience.
Be healthy,
Michael David 17:12, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
Cool - [11] helped me to find some category vandalizm today. Agathoclea 18:01, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Suicides by firearm’ cannot be a subcategory of ‘Deaths by firearm’. ‘Suicides’ is a main Category of its own; …by firearm is a method of suicide.

Michael David 22:40, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

nothing has changed: Categories: Suicides by methods | Deaths by firearm. Agathoclea 06:17, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
Then it very well needs to change. Suicides by firearm & Deaths by firearm need to be included in the same Article. And, by the way, the search lists you referred me to proved to be unreliable, and virtually useless as research tools.
Michael David 12:33, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

Auschwitz technical gas information

Hi, I agree with you that the detailed gas properties belong to the article about the gas rather than Auschwitz. It's all right to move it there, but not delete it completely without a good reason. Establishments by year

Thanks for your comments on using centuries for establishments long ago. I've been meaning to work on that and I was thinking of doing the centuries prior to 1000 AD. I also think that decades are likely to be useful and I've had a look at the way this hierarchy has been implemented for the births and deaths categories. It seems complicated, which has been putting me off.

I'm not sure which year you had in mind as I've been working on lots of years.

Finally, I don't want to make the categories too broad (ie cover too long a time period). I'm not sure how this will work out, but I hope that as the Wikipedia gets more world-wide historical detail it will be possible to see the detail of what was going on in any given year (or decade). Currently, historians only either give general information or focus on one part of the world for the specifics. Greenshed 23:22, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

Hitler

First off, there is no rule that the Oldest Information goes first on the talk page. In fact, most people would agree that the most recent information should go first -- not trivial issues and issues that have been settled. And the fact is, the issue of Hitler's religion is the most relevant. As well, please do not revert the additions I made in response to a users counterarguments. Secondly, the articles "Nigga" and "Time Magazine Sucks" contained offensive language that didn't need to be included. Thirdly, disontinue your Wikistalking of me -- do not post threats against users into the talk page. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.185.57.48 (talkcontribs) .

Re:Review

AA comment on Joshbuddy's lead me to your RfA qualification criteria. Although I am not planning on becoming an admin I would be interrested in an assessment from yourself especially about my involvement with 67.185.57.48 (talk · contribs). Thank you for your time. Agathoclea 22:34, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

Your involvement in that seems fine. I'm not sure there's much more to say about that, as you seemed to have taken a fairly minor role in that. The accusations from the IP that you were 'stalking' are clearly unfounded. It's quite usual as an admin (and doing that sort of thing as a non-admin) to get that sort of comment. A quick scan of my talk page should show that (I am less likely to remove posts entitled "Petros471 Abuses Adminstrative Priveleges" from my talk page than other people!), and I like to think of myself as one of the less controversial admins around :)
Try and use edit summaries for all edits, including ones on talk page. They are handy for finding specific posts in the page history etc. There is an option in preferences to make Wikipedia prompt you for one if you don't enter them if you simply find yourself forgetting.
You say you're not planning on becoming an admin, is that just now (fine, as you probably need more experience) or ever (which would be a shame as you look on course for that!)? Petros471 17:45, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi Agathoclea. Your familiar with this so I'm wondering if you can help by giving a warning to Timothy to stop placing socketpuppet labels on numberous user pages? In some cases he is edit warring with those users, who are reverting the changes he is making to their user pages. It's very uncivil and becoming increasingly disruptive.

It's silly for me and others to keep reverting him too when he not only persists but each time expands the list to include yet new users. I note he has even decided to publicize my persional home IP address as well: User:64.121.40.153 with the label. I've never denied this is my IP address, and it only occurs when I get unintentionally logged off. Still, I prefer to keep my IP address private. Needless to say this is not a "puppet" and he knows this but does it just to harass. In this, is it not also a violation of privacy? I've removed all of Timothy's additions. I would like an admin intervention to tell him to stop this distruptive, wiki-stalking behavior. He might listen if he is given an official warning from an admin. I've already taking him to informal mediation over this issue in IRC with no luck, despite agreement from the mediator. Thanks.Giovanni33 12:01, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

Now, I see that my old ideological opponent from the Christianity articles has decided to report me for a 3RR violation even though I have not made such a violation as its over 24 hours for this issue:

RE: Kleeneze

I removed the Neighbourhood Watch link because the organisation has dissolved and as such couldn't have a relationship with them. If you feel that the archival site is still useful, please feel free to readd it, bearing in mind the fact that it could be taken offline anytime soon. I must query your request to keep the spam tag, as the general consensus is to remove this if all links have indeed been removed, and to instead leave a comment using <!-- here --> instead so that editors can see that there has been a problem but that readers of the page are not assaulted with the tag. Does this make sense? Thanks. —Xyrael / 06:18, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Great, glad we could sort that problem out. —Xyrael / 09:25, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for your assistance. If you are a non-Witness editor, would you mind reviewing my comment on the article's talk page regarding the NPOV reasons why his insertion will not survive even non-Witness review, and perhaps add your own comments to the discussion? Thanks again, - CobaltBlueTony 18:41, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your help again and again. :-) Unfortunately, his edits were technically not a 3RR violation. Each edit has to be a reversion of the disputed text. My AMA request

If you are one of Jehovah's Witnesses, advocacy from you would only reinforce the user's accusation. If you are not a JW, this would lead to the presumption of non-bias and would be most helpful (and thank you for offering). With constant attackers like this, the best method of defending against deliberate misinformation and POV wars is for non-aligned editors to be logical and measured with their responses, and use Wikipedia policies to deflate their methods. - CobaltBlueTony 15:08, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

It looks like that I am getting a few proceses mixed up here. I made a few notes on this case, but I think I will need to learn what AMA really is if I wanted to get involved. Agathoclea 15:24, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

AMA Confusion

Hello Agathoclea,

Steve Caruso here :-)

Appearently there has been some confusion on Cobaltbluetony's page about his request for Advocacy within the Association for Members' Advocates. :-) I'm not very certain of your involvement myself, so what is your relation to the dispute and what would you like to know about the AMA? Have you signed up for membership or what's up and about? :-)

If you have any questions, I'm an open book so don't hesitate!

Peace! אמר Steve Caruso (desk/poll) 17:29, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Misleading editsummaries

Please note that trying to sneak in major changes against consensus with a misleading editsummary to disguise the changes is not welcome. [13] -- Agathoclea 06:55, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

I actually wasn't trying to change all the other stuff, only capitalize the comment part instead of the wikiformatting. I think it was because in the page history I went back to the version I had modified previously. Sorry, I'm not very experienced. Romperomperompe 07:59, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
The article is very watched so it got sorted pretty fast. I suggest you take the capitalisation of the HTML-comment to the talkpage maybe you can convince a few people of your reasoning. I have no preference myself. see WP:BRD for an essay on the precedure. Agathoclea 08:28, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
It's not important enough to argue about. Besides, with the way Wikipedia works, someone would agree that Wikiformatting doesn't work in HTML comments, but someone would probably argue about the fact that (in the process of re-typing it out and being from North America) I changed the S to Z, someone else would argue that the caps are distracting, with yet another suggesting we remove the notice as superfluous, and someone who had invested hours in the article claiming it is vitally important to keep it there. Several months later, consensus would be that we not change anything. Thanks for the tip though. :) Romperomperompe 08:34, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks!

Hi, I just noticed the very generous stern barnstar you gave me. I'll try to behave in the future, and will also look at my user page more often. :-) Thanks, Tom Harrison Talk 03:44, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

RE: Welcome!

Hello! I hope you're well. Thank you for your warm welcome. I stumbled across Wikipedia after reading about it and wanting additional information on Isaac Asimov. Wikipedia is wicked!

I've already taken the small step of creating an article. It isn't much, but I hope to edit and contribute much more in the near future. Thoughts? Again, thanks! Cogito ergo sumo 19:13, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

Hello again! Thanks; I've tweaked the article a bit. I'm not wholly concerned with the format of the footnotes/citations just yet; I just thought it important to cite my contributions. If someone comes along to correct or improve things, who am I to argue?  :) When I get a moment, I'll peruse the Manual of Style and the other links you've provided. Anyhow, thanks again! Thanks again. I still need to tweak the article RE sources/format, but I think I've done as much as I can do with this article for now and will move on to other articles/topics in due course. Maybe ask Jean Chretien office. Make sure that they understand the GDFL issues needed for publishing photos here. IE limitations to non-comercial use or wikipedia-only are not acceptable. Agathoclea 08:30, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

Picture of Hitler

Sorry, but an infobox usually shows the portraits of the person's head - and even preferably without a military cap. The rather blurred image of Hitler in Yugoslavia does not meet this infobox standard. The image of Hitler taken from a Mussulini photo is a compromise, until somebody uploads a better image. Why do you think the Hiler in Yugoslavia image is so great for the infobox? regards, Camptown 09:14, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

WikiProject Germany

Hi Agathoclea,

User:Badbilltucker has recently proposed starting a WikiProject for articles related to Germany. I was wondering if you would be interested in helping with this project. If you want to know more about it you can check the List of proposed projects or the temporary page of the project.

Grüße,

--CarabinieriTTaallkk 10:57, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi,

It's me Carabinieri again. I noticed you created the {{Munich-U-Bahn-stub}} template today. Unfortunately you didn't propose it at WP:WSS/P, where the creation of stub templates and categories is coordinated. What will be done with it is now being discussed at WP:WSS/D. The stub looks like it was formed well, but it also needs to reach a threshhold of about 60 stubs, in order for it to make sense to keep it. Maybe you can find some more stubs to use the template on.--CarabinieriTTaallkk 21:41, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

I think the list of stubs should go that deep, because it is a lot of work to sort the stubs if everyone just uses the {{Germany-stub}}.--CarabinieriTTaallkk 14:09, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

--FloSch 17:50, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for your message. It looks like the flickr license is changed, or I really made a mistake but I can't imagine that actually. Since I uploaded Image:Harley Jane Kozak.jpg and Image:Lee Child.jpg from the same source. Which indeed also are on a not compatible license anymore. Are you a Commons admin? Re: twp parameters

I generally take a pretty simplistic approach on this, based on text from the WP:RTPJ main page:

This project is an attempt to better organize and improve the quality of the information on Wikipedia related to: subways, Light rapid transit, elevated rail, and anything else that may fall under the category "rapid transit".

So far, only WP:NYCS has asked not to have Subway=yes if NYCS=yes is used, and I usually do the same for WP:LUL if Underground=yes is used. I haven't seen any WikiProjects for other systems, so all other subways, metros, etc., would fall under Subway=yes territory. Slambo (Speak) 14:40, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

Yikes! I did not see that. I've undeleted the page. Thanks for letting me know! -- Merope 14:29, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

I ask that you restore this. Recently at Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/E Pluribus Anthony it was determined that this user has created abusive sockpuppets and we are restoring his talk page so evidence for looking for his future sockpuppets be viewable. Previous discussion also took place at WP:RFCU and WP:AN/I. Plus, right to vanish usually doesn't cover the talk page unless liable/personal information was released on it, and he is only wanting it deleted so his talk page isn't viewed. Please, tell me why you deleted this. Thanks! semper fiMoe 00:58, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

There is a little bit of name confusion. Kleeneze plc is EHR not Kleeneze ltd. It be interresting to find out whose baby this now is after EHR went bellyup Agathoclea 23:17, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
Oh, agreed - Kleeneze, EHR - always a good sign: NOT! BCCI and Leeson at Barrings were our versions of WorldCom/Enron, but this one is an apparent piece of white collar crime. The big question for me is - why did they think they could trade out post the July profit warning; and secondly, why did people (savers) keep giving them cash? eeZee TV is not my kinda thing, other wise I'd watch - they do give out the odd "we're still trading" message - and the studios/registered office are within JML's HQ premises. I bet there's a share holders agreement which covers this eventuality. PS - love the UserPage photo! Rgds, - Trident13 23:32, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

University importance

I have re-rated some Universities you rated as Mid-importance, for a couple of reasons:

If we think of the Universities as part of a hypothetical "Education in Germany" WikiProject, I guess a couple of universities would be rated Top or High importance. I think we shouldn't rate them three levels lower than that for the general Germany project. (Or I'll feel bad about tagging Albert Einstein as top-importance). I agree on the Fachhochschulen, though, at least for now. Kusma (討論) 16:15, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

About the talk page of Rfayette

Hi. I have a small favour to ask. Since you have already gave him some advice on a talk page, could you give me your opinion on how Rrfayette (talk · contribs) is currently handling his talk page? It involves deleting comments critical of his edits and setting rules to talk to him. I have given up trying to reason him and would appreciate some neutral advice. Thanks, Pascal.Tesson 22:34, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

"setting rules to talk to him"
  • They are based on Wikipedia policies! You complain about the most trivial things.

"given up trying to reason him"

  • You are full of redundancy and negative remarks, not reasons. Talks I had with many other people went smoothly and productively; you on the other hand, I have given up on.
  • Why is it that ALL my talks stayed and were responded to expect Pascal.Tesson?

SolelyFacts 22:59, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

The subject comes up again and again on AN/I and people are quite split on the subject. Basially the consensus is that if a user deletes talkmessages to him, he has read them and can be held accountable accourdingly. WP:TALK#User_talk_pages sugests to move on or to go to dispute resulution. But it is no use edit-waring over those. On the other hand if such matters go to ArbCom they usually reflect very badly on the user who selectivly deletes warnings ect. Agathoclea 23:22, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
Allright, thanks for your input. I guess it's always wiser to let trolls self-destruct. Pascal.Tesson 23:29, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
Again with the personal attacks (and I wonder why I am so upset)-- enough of ignorant beasts.

Thanks for the comments on this, Agathoclea. On a related note, I'd like to get your take on people copying others' comments from an article talk page to user talk pages. Unless the discussion is moving there, or unless it's just a bit quoted to respond to, I'm not comfortable with my comments being copied in a way that may give the impression that I posted them on the user talk page in the first place. Thanks. -Milo H Minderbinder 13:55, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

It is very explicit and direct as to where the talk came from. It has a link and everything. It is a closely related discussion that will be updated as talks from where it was received progresses, but I have removed myself from that particular talk due to its heated nature.
I don't think I have any issues with you, Milo H Minderbinder, besides your reverting my revision that is yet to be resolved. That is were my focus is.
If you are not "comfortable with my comments being copied in a way that may give the impression that I posted them on the user talk page". Then we can always cooperate and come to an agreement as long as you talk politely w/o attacks, as you have done here. And as you can see, you received a proper response and not a attack back from me.
Furthermore, it will soon go into the archive so you needn't worry about other people reading it. Plus, to try and make you more comfortable, I could be more direct and leave a note before that section that says you did not post them on this user talk page, but I think, to be realistic, nobody would visit this one talk page out of soooooo many and read the talks for fun.
But, if this is really, really, really a big issue to you, I could always remove it since you are being very cooperative. Hope we can focus of the revision issue instead.

SolelyFacts 19:58, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

If the two of you have a problem with each other I suggest going to dispute resolution. It might be easier though to try and stay out of each others hair and carry on building that encyclopedia. Agathoclea 23:28, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Point taken. How about just "stay out of each others" since not all users have hair (I do tho). I'll go make a new revision and not waste so much time talking, and used the dispute resolution if some random person decides to erase everything I do. —SolelyFacts 23:48, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

My Nice Talk with Agathoclea

Ok, let's talk on this page so you don't have to jump through hoops as you so so nicely put it. I don't think we'll of to a good start.
  • What is the "given circumstances"?

"lot of people are quite helpful"

  • I am sorry, but it is very difficult to AGF of others, especially when they make snotty and petty remarks and term things as "jump through hoops" and "kind of experiment".

"they might refrain from doing so"

  • All the better, if they are not really trying to help, but are demanding and stubborn.

SolelyFacts 22:49, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

I think I have sufficiantly commented on Wikipedia_talk:Talk_page_guidelines#Headings_on_talk_pages. On another matter - please refrain from copying my comments to uninvolved talkpages. Agathoclea 23:22, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
Reason: I wanted to reply to you on your talk page since that was directed towards me. Is that wrong? "refrain" "refrain" What did I do that was so bad? —SolelyFacts 00:02, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Further reasoning: I thought it was OK to add my talk to the one above by that person, since I was replying to both of you. This way, I would not need to make a new header. I do not know how you do things. Sorry.
Maybe you should put some guidelines on the top, so I would have something to follow when talking to you. This way, I would not do anything that upsets you, because then, you would not be a very nice person to talk with.
I will reply on Wikipedia_talk:Talk_page_guidelines#Headings_on_talk_pages as you wish. —SolelyFacts 00:35, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

This is the mechanism on how this vandal operates. He uses...{{User:FFFearless|FFFearless}} to spam your user page. An example:

I am a freelance writer working on an article about the wide array of people who make Wikipedia their life, their passion, their pastime. Wikipedia “addicts” if you will. I’m looking for people willing to tell their story of how they got sucked into the intellectual whirlwind that is Wikipedia; how you got started editing, how the obsession grew, and what you spend your time focusing on these days? Do you write articles from scratch? Is your main push toward one particular type of article? Do you patrol for typos and errors, or spend your time diligently fixing vandalism? Do you take part in the “social aspects” of Wikipedia; engaging in animated discussions or decorating your user page with all sorts of internet memes? Have you ever forced yourself to take a “Wikipedia break”? If so, what’s your 20/20 hindsight on the obsession? Basically I’m just trying to get an idea of what it’s like for various Wikipedia “addicts.” If you are interested in participating, please email me

This article is intended to be a light informational piece, nothing too heavy or controversial, just merely introducing readers to a subculture that they likely had no idea existed. So please don’t email me with your conspiracy theories, or your grudge against the Wikipedia hierarchy… unless it directly applies to your overall experience with the site. This article is about the USERS, not about the pros and cons of the site itself.

UPDATE: 11/27/06

After a bumpy start (check out my user talk page) I've actually been getting a lot of good responses, both from people who take part in the various "social aspects" of the site, as well as from people who are simply hardcore editors and consider most of the social interaction outside of collaborating on article to be anti-effective to the objective of the site.

I would still like to hear from anybody who has been involved in the Adopt-a-User program (whether as the adoptOR or the adoptEE). Also, I'd like to speak to anybody who has been involved in any heavy collaborative efforts with other editors on specific articles - or who have been heavily involved with a Wiki collaboration project. I'd like to get some thoughts on what that process is like.

Thanks to everybody who has been so helpful thus far.

UPDATE 12/3/06

The article is coming along nicely. All the various aspects of the site are segue-ing nicely into each other for a good flowing narrative and discussion. I plan on sending emails to any user whose quotes I used for their approval within the next couple of days. And when the final draft of the piece is done, I will email a copy of it to anybody who participated, with the strictest of promises that you will not republish it on your user page or anywhere else until after it has appeared in print.

Thanks again to all who took the time to tell me their wiki-stories. It has been really hard trying to narrow down what to use and who to quote as so many people had such intriguing and insightful things to say. I truly hope this article opens up the eyes to more people about the great work going on here at Wikipedia.

UPDATE 12/11/06

Well the article is complete and I have already started submitting it. I will keep everyone posted on where and when it ends up running. I have sent copies of the completed article to everyone who particpated in the interview process, under the strict understanding that it not be redistributed or reposted until after the article has been published. So far the feedback from Wikipedians has been good and even full of truly constructive criticism (which I expected no less of from the folks here :-) ).

Thanks again everyone for your help and guidance on this article. I hope this piece ends up drawing more committed people to the cause.

Katherine Parr

please stop! Common usage of the name is spelled with a C. As in the times supplement just last week. Agathoclea 11:07, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

I'm easy - just trying to be consistant.--Bilbo B 11:39, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
Fascinating. Yet the Britannica uses C. I can only think that her name was spelled with a K at the time (or rather is a victim of the C-K sound shift since then) but it seems that today she gets referred to as Catherine. If anything her article is the place to sort that out, not at incoming links. Maybe following procedure at WP:RM#Steps_for_requesting_a_.28possibly.29_controversial_page_move will get a few people to provide some input. Agathoclea 12:32, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

Policy on single-user projects

I don't know that there actually is a policy on these things. What had happened was that, in the preparation of the Project Directory, I was going through all the projects which had been created, so I could know what all was there to be listed, and starting deletion discussions about those which had been inactive (meaning no project-related activity on the project page for the past three months) which had at most one listed member, the founder. The reasoning behind this was that these projects, for good or ill, were effectively clearly one-person projects, which doesn't meet the standard definition of a collaborative project. The closest thing to a policy regarding projects is that any project page which has no listed members, or only the founder listed as a member, and had had no activity as above in the past three months, can be tagged as inactive. Any of these projects could technically be considered for deletion, but there is no good reason to think that they necessarily would be. Also, crooked as it may sound, in some cases I myself joined the projects or performed some project-related activity on the project page of projects which I thought were either well-formed and just insufficiently advertised or were good ideas, but poorly formed. The only real thing close to policy I know of are that (1) any project which has no members stands a reasonable chance of deletion if an MfD tag is put on the page, and (2) any project page with no activity over three months can be tagged as inactive, and that in some cases some of these might be nominated for deletion. There is nothing like a set "policy" regarding the deletions themselves, however, they are all discussed in regular MfDs. I know that the above is overlong, but I hope it comes close to answering your questions. The Germany project you mentioned had specifically been around for three months, and in that time no one other than the founder had joined. Badbilltucker 16:48, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

Re: Munich U Bahn Stub

Well, the officialness is all a bit unofficial, but since it's transcluded on 85 articles now, I think we can go ahead with the category. Category:Berlin U-Bahn stubs can be used as an example on formatting the category page. I included it on the rail stubs category page more for completeness than anything else; the template exists and is in use, so it should be mentioned there. Slambo (Speak) 11:52, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Imageneeded switch

It now works in {{WikiProject Germany}} (I see you have added some image requests already before it worked). While I'm here, I'm trying my new welcome template {{subst:welcomeGER}}, which you should feel free to improve (or ask me to delete it if you think it is a horrible idea). I would prefer improvement of this still not very good template over deleiton, of course, but I'm taking any chance I get to advertise my To do template. Happy editing, Kusma (討論) 23:02, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

You're probably right about the flag overdose, although it's not as bad as when I returned to Germany from the US during the Football World Cup ;-) For the regional (or historical) subprojects, I suggest we implement yes/no switches just like the amazing {{TrainsWikiProject}} does. The subprojects could also have their own importance switches attached should that be necessary (and assessemtn for a focused subproject will be easier than for all of Germany). Maybe I'll create a Mainz task force as proof of concept soon, although Berlin is probably the only subproject that has a decent chance of actual success (I know of at least five enwiki admins living in Berlin, I guess we have quite a large userbase here), but that also means there are enough other people that can start that subproject and I don't have to do it. Kusma (討論) 23:25, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
The requested photos category needs a lot of work, probably not from photographers but from people who simply upload dewiki images at commons. I think we should slowly merge the category into our own to decrease talk page template clutter. Showing the coat of arms for a city subproject opposite the flag is a nice idea and would probably look really good, but will make things complicated for the "small" switch or impossible in case of several city subprojects sharing one topic (don't have a good example right now, but Peace of Westphalia is as much a Münster topic as an Osnabrück one), so I'm inclined to go for the usual stacked placement if only for sake of my own sanity. Or do you have a good suggestion for the implementation? Kusma (討論) 10:08, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

When can I nominate you for adminship? Kusma (討論) 13:53, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Although I haven't actually done much anything lately regarding Germany, I have at least been following developments, and have seen what you can do. You can count on at least one more vote when and if you do decide to run. Badbilltucker 15:09, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Doing something about the ridiculous date autoformatting/linking mess

Dear Agathoclea—you may be interested in putting your name to, or at least commenting on this new push to get the developers to create a parallel syntax that separates autoformatting and linking functions. IMV, it would go a long way towards fixing the untidy blueing of trivial chronological items, and would probably calm the nastiness between the anti- and pro-linking factions in the project. The proposal is to retain the existing function, to reduce the risk of objection from pro-linkers. Tony 00:53, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

Admin coaching, etc.

Are you ready to get started?

The waiting time over at Admin coaching is long (some people have been waiting in line since July). I'm an admin coach with the project, and for my students I set up a group discussion page so that we could all learn from each other. The scope of this concept has expanded into the Virtual classroom, which is an open forum for the teaching and learning of advanced Wikipedia skills.

Anyone and everyone is welcome to participate, as a student, as a coach, or both. Every week or two a new major topic of discussion or classroom assignment is introduced, usually with a guest writer who presents his or her expertise on the current subject and who remains on hand to answer questions. Everyone is encouraged to participate in the discussions, such as sharing your expertise, asking and answering questions, etc.

The current topic of discussion is vandalism, and our guest writer is Budgiekiller.

All discussions are open-ended, so all previous discussion topics and classroom assignments are still there for viewing and further participation. There are also sections for posting miscellaneous topics and questions, requesting coaching assistance, etc.

In addition to inviting those who would like to learn, I routinely invite experts from all over Wikipedia to come and contribute for the benefit of all. The VC is rapidly turning into a clearing house of the best resources, methods, and techniques known for working on Wikipedia.

You are cordially invited to participate.

Here's an announcement box which you can place on your userpage or at the top of your talk page for keeping up to date with classroom assignments.

I hope to see you there. Sincerely,  The Transhumanist    07:41, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

WikiProject Germany importance tags

Hello Agathoclea,

I think using the "Mid" rating for _every_ city below 100k inhabitants is slightly overdone, especially given the liberal usage of the words "town" and "city" in most Wikipedia articles on German places. Certainly, a Flecken with maybe 5,000 people living there wouldn't be of medium importance in Germany, for instance. For now, I am planning to tag articles on mostly unknown places with the "Low" rating, use the "Mid" for places of notable size (say, Zwickau) and "High" for ones above a certain threshold. (Haven't run into an example for that one yet, though.) The "Top" rating I'll probably spare for the bigger stuff above, say, 250,000.

Of course that isn't set in stone, as my main focus is on the class assessment right now. There's about 1,700 articles which do not have a class assigned right now.

Treneff?

I just saw that you deleted the article I created to make a definition of the word "treneff." I was surprised that it happened and would like to explain to you that the page is in no way meant as a "personal attack" as you cited in your deletion. In fact, the person the page is about is a very good friend of mine whose reputation is known throughout the city where we live and is fast spreading around the campus of MTSU. In fact, he begged me to make the article about him here on Wikipedia himself. I can understand if you still find the article to be inappropriate for Wikipedia, however I feel that there was a misunderstanding on the intent of the page. It was created with the intent of humor and nothing more.

Thank you, Cal Bowen

Can you please leave a message that the user has been blocked indefinately on user's pages which have been blocked? And, I am just curious, what if an admin uses his/her power inappropriately? How and what actions can be taken to take away admin powers? Thanks. Bearly541 13:04, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

I have just done so - I wanted to leave a personal message rather than the template one. The block notice you left has a wrong timestamp - did you c&p or is one of the servers up the creek again?.
Inappropriate actions - normally the usual process of RfC and ArbCom. In particular bad cases a steward will emergency de-sysop to prevent further damage. But most inappropriate actions are done in good faith and making an admin aware what and how he has made a mistake, so that he could either correct it or refrain from repeating it. Hello, I responded to your question on my tal page. If you could be of any assistance I would be grateful. The images are indeed copyrighted, but I don't know which option to choose. I have been given the images by Tufts University to use as I wish on the Web. Melody Ko is the Tufts photographer. She takes photographs, and then the University buys them from her. The University gave them to me on a cd. If you could be of any help please let me know. I spent hours trying to put up the images, so I would like to make sure they aren't deleted. thank you Pmurph07 08:30, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

First of all I recommend you stop adding any pictures, so you won't waste any efforts. Secondly as wikipedia gets mirrored into a number of commercial ventures all pictures have to be on a free licence (GFDL or equivalent). Could you check with Melody, if she is prepared to do so (Or if she she has transfered copyright to the University check with the office to follow the same procedure). See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how the process works. Agathoclea 09:11, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

However, I have a question: the Speedy Deletion criteria page gives examples of the "subst" template to place on the originator's talk page, but only for some of the criteria. What should I put on the talk page for speedy deletions for, say, "no context," or "blanked," neither of which seem to have corresponding "subst" templates? Proofreader J-Man 03:44, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

The {{db-blank}} or {{db-empty}} has the following warning {{subst:empty-warn|ARTICLE}} ~~~~. In fact which template are you using that does not contain the message? I would need to take a lok at that. Agathoclea 07:14, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

Anti-vandalism

Hi I just joined Wikipedia yesterday, and I realised just how much I loathe vandalism. I've decided to become a kind of part-time unofficial vandalism fixer, and I have a question which I thought I should ask an administrator...I was wondering, when you put a warning (template or otherwise) on a non-member's talk page, is there any guarantee that they read it? I have used Wikipedia for a long time without being a member, and I had never even heard of a talk page! Thanks for your help, (Mj92 06:29, 24 February 2007 (UTC))

Thanks for the advice. It all makes sense now, I didn't know of the new message bar before. Thanks again! (Mj92 09:38, 24 February 2007 (UTC))

The so-called "Third Reich"

How can I discuss request for a page to be deleted? (see Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Germany#The_so-called_.22Third_Reich.22 for details) Habibie 09:08, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Go ahead and delete article if you like, but it might be good to have a page (if there isn't one already) of German Mil. terms when relating to regiments, brigades, battalions, etc. V. Joe 14:03, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

There's really not much to restore. Please check out Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bettina Redlich as well, as that was the original source of the effort to delete the page. I was just the final step. All the page said about her was that she was an actress. Ok. Fine. But saying that does nothing to show why she's notable. Why should she have a page in an encyclopedia?

You mention expanding it. I'm hesitant to restore it as it currently is, since it really is not a useful page. One possibility would be to userfy the restored page to a work area in your userspace. Then you could work on expanding it a bit here before it gets moved back into place once it is a decent article. Sound reasonable? - TexasAndroid 14:06, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

Ok. It's at User:Agathoclea/Bettina Redlich now. I edited the stubs, categories, and inter-wiki link at the bottom to be non-functional. Just a pet-peev of mine, active categories and such in user space. :) But other than that, it's just as it was before the PROD/AFD/deletion. You can now work on it, and when you get it to a state that shows it's notability, it can be moved back to the article space. You might want to have User:Ganymead and/or User:Pak21 come review it to see that it's good to go to article space. Those were the two who were involved in teh PROD/AFD process with it, and so if you can get them to be happy with the article, you will know you have a good one. - TexasAndroid 14:29, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

I noticed that you have done a huge amount of good work in creating articles for the Munich U-Bahn stations. I think it also makes sense to split off an article for each line. Right now the main article is good, but rather long. If that sounds good to you, drop a note at Talk:Munich U-Bahn and I'll make individual line articles in a week or so. --Reuben 20:42, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your Welcome to Charles01

Welcome, Charles01

Thank you for your kind welcome message, Agathoclea. At the moment I'm working on an article on Deidesheim where (1) I used to live and which (2) has a particularly good article in the German wiki by (mostly) a fellow using the name Kallistratos, who seems to know a lot more about geology than they teach you in the English schools. And I've made a start on translating the article on the Rhenish Republic, tho here I bring a little context on my own account to the table since I studied the Weimar period as a special subject at uni some years ago.... (Don't believe them if they tell you history doesn't change once it's happened.) I anticipate concentrating initially on those areas where I have knowledge of my own to bring to the table, tho I am enjoying translating stuff from the German and French wikis (and learning a lot thereby, which for me is at least part of the point of it all). Once I run out of things where I have special knowledge of my own, I anticipate (unless I will fade out of the wiki world entirely) looking more closely at the 'Germany To Do' lists....

Album notability

DJ Webstar's page lists the album under the discography section, only because Webstar had a connection to the project. Young B does not have an article at the moment, and has apparently been speedy deleted every single time the article was created. Unless the deleting admins had only deleted the article based on prior precedence, then I think the album article should not be kept. If their are verifiable sources on Young B, and a whole new acceptable article can be made, then we can keep the album article. For the time being, I think the album article can then be deleted. I've brought up possible full protection of the page on AN and on the mailing list. In fact, if that guy persists, it's probably worth a block. There's no use trolling now that Essjay has left. – Chacor 12:28, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Block time, I think. – Chacor 12:38, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

I happened to notice the post you left on User talk:Arcticdawg regarding the block. I looked through the user's recent contributions, but I'm not able to find the edit or behavior that led to the block. The post to Jimbo's talk page referenced above by Chacor doesn't seem like justification for blocking. I just ask because I think people need to be given some latitude at this point in expressing their opinions—even when they use strong language. I think it is better to tread lightly in terms of blocking people on this subject at this time. —Doug Bell talk 23:22, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

GRAW 2 Article

Hey, the 211.28.166.87 user has *yet again* added the section to the GRAW article. If you take a look at User_talk:64.85.234.166 you can see that this user appears to be a sock puppet of the user you previously blocked and has repeatedly performed this edit and has a history of dubious edits. Can you just remove the section in question and perhaps semi-protect the article? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by CobaltBlue612 (talkcontribs) 10:20, 19 March 2007 (UTC).

hmm, not quite so clear a sock as they are opposite sides of this planet - unless some proxies are involved. Agathoclea 11:01, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Hrm. Maybe not, but it seems very dubious giving that the two exhibit a similar pattern of poor behavior, controversial edits and personal insults and interact positively only with each other. Hi, you might remember Dolla Billz, or his creators/sockpuppets: Jack tha Ripper, Fan3, Big Hunna Entertainments and Jordan Star Records. Well, he's back, and this time with a new user: Songz from my Heart, and he's reposting old deleted material everywhere. Could we block him and salt those pages, please? That would be great. Thanks so much for your work! We all deserve barnstars for this, lol. Rockstar915 19:22, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

I did put banned instead of blocked a few times, the checkuser report was also delisted from the main page but I haven't got around to listing all the diffs etc. that would be required.. I'm certainly in favour of making this a community concern. Deiz talk 09:23, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

More socks of Jack Tha Ripper

See [15]. I presume Loonie Toon and Tiny Toons are socks of Jack Tha Ripper. Could you tag all the appropriate cases with the right sock tags so I can file a checkuser (or consider filing one yourself)? I'll check this page for a reply. Thanks. Nardman1 22:37, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

grr. I am just snowed under at work. Looks like a clear sock continuing previous behaviour. Checkuser can only identify the network as the user is on a dynamic connection. I'll block, but someone else needs to clean up the mess. Agathoclea 22:45, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Josh Gotti Sockpuppets

Josh Gotti has more sockpuppets: JO Simpson to name one, but I think there are more. Want help with this? Rockstar915 23:00, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Yes, please tag them all. I want to write up the bit for the community ban so I need the full list. Agathoclea 06:27, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

Full list of Josh Gotti Socks

Okay, here goes. From the looks of it you've gotten most of them. Here's the complete list (as I know it to be):

Honk Tha Remix is still vandalizing, and has recently begun creating deleted pages of the Big Hunna Entertainments crew (most recently Joshy's Crazy Life (album)), which has already been tagged for speedy by janejellyroll.

Also, I have my eye on Spechialone as he/she has been working on some of the pages the socks worked on, but as of now, it looks like that user might be in the clear. But if anything changes, I'll definitely let you know.

Let's keep an eye out for further socks by this vandal and squash him ASAP. Rockstar915 04:33, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

Sure thing, I'll get to it this evening. Thanks, by the way, for clearing up that AfD and deleting some of the singles. Now it's time to gut Fan 3 and try to figure out what's real and what's not. Where/when will I be able to see the community ban on Josh, by the way? Keep up the awesome work! Rockstar915 20:34, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

Alrighty, well I've got a tiny tiny little stub there that I'll work on expanding ASAP. Hopefully Josh won't be back to vandalize this, but I'm watching it and Fan 3 closely and I can spot Josh from a mile away. :) Rockstar915 20:55, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

Instead of gutting the entire Fan 3 article and rewriting it, I'm proposing just reverting back to the version before Josh Gotti and his socks began to edit/vandalize. A good example of the page is the edit just before Josh got involved (see it here). There's not much difference between the current version and that version, except for that version is a bit cleaner of a stub. I think it would do us good just to revert it back to that version and then go from there. What do you think? Rockstar915 06:55, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Sounds fine to me. I am seriously busy at the moment. So only tend to check in first thing in the morning and last thing at night. I have not forgotten the community ban writeup, but got some real-life issues that need priority. Agathoclea 07:17, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
Best of luck sorting those issues out. Real life always trumps wiki. Rockstar915 07:41, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

One more Sock of Josh

Don Gotti. I'm adding a sock notice. Rockstar915 01:36, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

New socks

MC. Keenan redirects to Impacts Music, so I tagged Impacts Music with a sockpuppet tag. He tried to vandalize Fan 3 and claims to be Dolla Billz' uncle on his user page. Just another attempt... let's get him community banned. Rockstar915 03:29, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

I also tagged a bunch of his IP socks, too. Rockstar915 03:31, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

I believe you might have been caught in the crossfire here. Possibly an idea if we can discuss this somewhere like User talk:Agathoclea where the rest of the Don Gotti problem currently gets discussed. I am rather busy in real life due to work commitments and the death of a friend. So I might be very slow answering. Please leave the notice intact until everyone is convinced it is wrong. Agathoclea 20:59, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

The surrounding edits make me think that it was someone innocently ending up in the crossfire. An established account - on a quick look good edits. Agathoclea 21:04, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
It could possibly be true -- the reason why I tagged Chevr92 is because he/she reverted edits back to the album cover uploaded by Lucky6446, a known Josh Gotti sock. In the past, an action like that has been a red flag for Josh Gotti sockpuppetry. That said, I still might be wrong, but I would like to be convinced. Rockstar915 23:12, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
I'd say wait and see. I have asked to leave the tag untouched for that reason. An established account like that is less clear especially as 4.x reverted his changes to another red flag. Wish I had more time. Agathoclea 00:02, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Finally...

Instead of continuing to leave more and more notices of socks of Josh Gotti on your talk page, I just went ahead and created a subpage on my user page with a full list of Josh Gotti socks. You can reference it here. I figure that's the easiest way to do it so that I don't continue to keep annoying you with new talk notices.

Furthermore, if you're too swamped at work, I could theoretically write up a community ban with diffs and everything and submit it to WP:CN. If you still plan on writing it, however, that's fine too. But when you do you should look at my userpage for the most up-to-date list of socks. :) Rockstar915 08:51, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Yes - please go ahead. I will need at least another week to settle down here. I will comment once you written up something. I would make a note of the not so clear accounts. The most important thing is that once a ban is through we don't need to establish the credibility of every edit the sock has made but are able to revert in once swoop. In the case of established accounts suspected I then would ask a checkuser to look into it, as I'd rather be cautious.
P.S. please leave a short note here, as I most likely only am able to check for new talkmessages. Agathoclea 11:41, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
Okay, that sounds great. I'll make sure to write something up with clear diffs and then I'll let you read it before submitting it. I'll probably have it written by the end of this weekend. Rockstar915 19:49, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
So it looks like I won't be able to get to it this weekend. If you want to write it up, let me know. Otherwise, I'll do it soonish. Rockstar (T/C) 22:46, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
Just wanted to let you know that it looks like Josh has stopped vandalizing. I haven't seen his aliases or 4.252.etc. popping up in days. Maybe it's the end? Rockstar (T/C) 08:18, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
good news - there has to be some return for his actions and your vigilance has made his efforts a waste of time, I guess he will try again after a break. Agathoclea 08:57, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Help with my account

I'm sorry to take up your time, but I was wondering if you, as an administrator, could assist me with a problem I seem to be having with my account. I'm referring to my account Falastur here, this one has been made as a temporary replacement. Quite simply I loaded up Wikipedia today, to find that I had been signed out, and upon entering my password, could not log back in. Naturally, I tried the obvious things...checking other possible passwords "just in case" I was being stupid (though I log into Wiki enough to be certain of what it is), and trying to email myself another password. That failed, since apparently my account doesn't have an email address attached to it. Under the circumstances, I can only guess that my account has been hacked and the password changed for some reason, though I can't think of any reason for this to have happened to me, (that is, I don't remember offending or annoying someone who might do this).

Naturally, I could just carry on with this account, but if it is possible I would much prefer to regain use of my previous account. It has my watchlist and contributions list, it has the "history" (other editors can mentally link my edits to me via that account), and the '2' I had to stick on the end of this account to make it different from the last account just looks ugly, to be a little blunt. That said, I understand the constraints you work under, and if it is not possible to regain my old account, I will continue with this new one as best I can.

Either way, if you might be able to help me, or just advise me on what to do/point me at a different administrator, that would help me immensely. If you need me to answer questions or fill in red tape to confirm that the account "Falastur" is actually mine, I will do everything I can do assist you. I thoroughly scanned the pages on requesting help from admins, but couldn't find any dedicated pages for this problem, so I contacted an administrator at random, following the advise to "seek advise" by doing so, if I made the wrong decision then I apologise, and could you possibly tell me what I should do instead?

Thanks again, and awaiting your reply Falastur2 18:08, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
