Welcome and advice

[edit]

Welcome to editing Wikipedia. We need chemists, especially ones conversant in advanced topics! Here are some guidelines to help you:

  • be careful about potential conflicts of interest (see WP:COI) such as citing your own work.
  • recent articles are rarely sought. This approach reflects on the nature of the encyclopedia, which emphasizes established "dogma" vs fast breaking news (see WP:RECENT). Anyway, secondary sources (reviews, textbooks, monographs) are generally preferable references instead of citations of primary journals (see WP:SECONDARY). 80,000 papers appear annually in chemical journals, so we have no interest in competing with established reviews.

If you have questions, feel free to ask. But I hope that you can help others learn or understand basics as well as advanced topics.--Smokefoot (talk) 18:38, 17 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
