Help me! Questions about creating a new page.

[edit]

Please help me with...

Hello! I have been asked to create a new Wikipedia page for an alternative rock band called, Mercy Mode. I have done some editing on various Wikipedia pages through the years, most recently for actor (and Mercy Mode founder), Chase Coleman, who personally asked me to edit his page for him and create a new page for the band. I am very new to creating a Wikipedia page and have read through the guidelines, one of which talked about avoiding creating a page "for your band." More or less, I guess I'm just asking permission if it is okay to start a page for them. I have already written them a biography, and intend to use that information to develop a Wiki page. Chase would like to link it to his own page.

Also, I've had trouble (on Chase Coleman's page), uploading pictures he wanted to put up. Now, when I uploaded them, it prompted me as to whether or not I owned the photos. Being honest, I said no, because they are Chase's pictures. He did, however, give me a photo release for them, given to him by the photographer that took them. Unfortunately, even though I provided this information, the photos have been deleted from his page twice. I don't want to get into any trouble, or be banned from editing, so I'm needing assistance in this area, too. I have the photo release available for whomever can help me with it.

Thank you for your time.

First of all, if you're being compensated for your contributions on Wikipedia, you'll need to disclose that; see WP:COIPAYDISCLOSE for details.
That said, given your conflict of interest, I'd advise you to not try and create a live article but rather to use the Article Wizard to create a draft and to submit it for a review by an experienced (and uninvolved) editor. Please make sure that the band meets Wikipedia's standards of notability and gather reliable third-party sources like newspapers or reputable magazines on which the content of the draft can be based. WP:Referencing for beginners has information on how to easily create nicely-formatted footnotes for your references.
Regarding the images, you'll want to contact permissions-commons@wikimedia.org and forward that photo release. Whether an image is acceptable very much depends on the details of the release, on who owns the copyright and what license they have released the image under. WP:Requesting copyright permission has more information on this topic. Huon (talk) 18:19, 30 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Help me!

Thank you very much for your response. To answer your question about compensation, I am not getting paid nor reimbursed in any way by Chase to develop the Wiki for his band. He asked me to create it strictly in a volunteer basis which was agreed upon. To create the article, I will use the Article Wizard, as requested, and submit a draft to be approved. Before doing so, I will also be sure that the band meets the criteria, also as requested.

Also, many thanks on the advice for Chase's photo copyright issues. I will be contacting that link with the photo release.

Thank you for the clarification, however, please only use {{help me}} when you have a query or question to ask. Happy New Year from the UK at least. !dave 00:12, 1 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You uploaded, File:Chase Red Carpet.jpg, where you either stated or implied that you had permission of a third party to upload it; or that evidence of such permission would be provided on request.

Unless there's some record of that permission, it's harder to confirm if any given permission is genuine. Wikipedia currently needs the permission to be explicitly proven at the time of upload, and recorded in the OTRS permission queue, for this reason.

Please read Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission, which advises on how to confirm permissions you obtained from a third party.

It is also advisable to ask the third-party what source attribution they desire, as opposed to marking the image as having been "sent personally".

If permission is not confirmed, and recorded as detailed above, the media may have to be removed so that Wikipedia stays in compliance with copyright law and policy in some jurisdictions.
