Question about a possible future article about a wolf :)

Hey Fettlemap, hope you are doing great !

I've been working on writing the story of the famous Yellowstone wolf of the Canyon Pack : The White Lady (Numbered #1093F after her death). She has multiple pictures on wikipedia (at least 13) and her longtime mate 712M (at least 8). Their daughter, the Wapiti White Alpha Female (which i often called WWAF), and her mate, 755M, have also a lot of pictures.

I wanted to know if it would be a great addition to the wiki wolves and what you thought about it ?

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Wolves_in_Yellowstone_National_Park (the 13 and 8 are from here) and here's an example of both wolves public domain pictures :

I will put the sources later one day to cover what I wrote.

See an early version here -- > Draft:The White Lady (Wolf) Gimly24 (talk) 02:37, 6 February 2023 (UTC)

You have quite a start on the article but the absence of citations is concerning. I like to put them in as I go because it can be difficult to remember where various content came from. I also think the emphasis should be on notable rather than famous. I have no idea about the notability of this wolf without seeing the references. What matters is that the article should be well-written and be consistent with the core content policies – Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, Wikipedia:No original research, and Wikipedia:Verifiability. Best wishes, Fettlemap (talk) 05:10, 6 February 2023 (UTC)

Your reversion of criticism of Save the Redwoods League.

What's wrong with putting information about criticism of Save The Redwoods League? It's sourced. Wikipedia isn't a place where information that is critical of the subjects of articles is automatically suppressed. JoeDunning (talk) 21:42, 11 September 2023 (UTC)

Sorry, I was just putting it under History where it belongs but the program grabbed both edits. Sorry for the sloppy edits. As far as putting it as section heading rather than subsection, see WP:CRIT and WP:UNDUE. Cheers Adflatusstalk 21:51, 11 September 2023 (UTC)

US homelessness

I am not impressed with your recent revert. The 2022 figure is available from DHUD, as well as every other figure dating back decades. My edit summary was quite specific about the source and the update. There is no point in highlighting 2014, nor any other previous year. This is not a news site per WP:NOTNEWS, its an encyclopedia. You also failed to include the latest figure which was a valid addition to WP and simply reverted it, which is not in accordance with WP:REMOVAL. 14.2.192.61 (talk) 22:18, 14 September 2023 (UTC)

City of Houston's Wikipedia Page

Prehistoric settlers are not part of Houston's history because they predate the city by hundreds of years. It's not even fathomable that they would be included on the Wikipedia page for a 20/21st century city. Also, next time you want to make a comment, do so on my Talk page so I see it. Coastal prairies

You added "Jenner Headlands Preserve" to "List of protected grasslands of North America". Jenner is coastal prairie. Is intention to list protected grasslands of all types? The "Prairie" article discusses several types and has a "See also" to "California coastal prairie" article which lists several coastal prairies (should Jenner be linked from this?).

The Wildlands Conservancy Wind Wolves Preserve (article exists) has extensive grass covered hills in the southern Central Valley.

I'm fairly new to editing articles. I have questions related to The Wildlands Conservancy articles (separating list, what columns belong in table, whether to create articles for lesser-known preserves, etc). I see inconsistencies in how other park organizations pages are handled. What is best way to get feedback? I was concerned about posting in the teahouse since I'd rather have feedback specifically from editors doing park related pages. Seems like there should be standardization of what information is presented and how. I can list questions on talk page of the article but how do I invite people who are familiar with these types of articles? I'm pinging you since I know you've looked at several of these articles plus have modified several list-oriented articles. Is there any discussion group specifically about parks/features and doing master article vs list article vs individual articles on particular item? BookOfDisquiet (talk) 18:50, 29 July 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for getting in touch and for your excellent queries. I haven't searched for or been in touch with any groups in protected lands. I would caution about creating articles just because a preserve exists. See WP:NOPAGE. While lists can be useful, Wikipedia is intended to be mainly prose that is interesting to readers. Explaining notable or unique preserves is much interesting than just listing them. Having sufficient reliable sources is necessary for all additions to Wikipedia.
I typically edit on my phone so I will continue to add to this reply as I have time since I have not answered all your questions. I want to provide thoughtful feedback. Adflatusstalk 05:26, 30 July 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for response. I'll update Wildlands talk page with my proposed changes. I'm familiar with the noteworthy rule but I've seen many lists for which articles are written on every entry. Realistically some state parks aren't particularly noteworthy so I assumed these minimal articles were done for completeness. I'll let you know when I update the talk page. I'm impressed with your dexterity as I'm a touch typist on laptop and can't imagine typing on my phone. BookOfDisquiet (talk) 06:38, 30 July 2023 (UTC)
Please note that one can find many examples on Wikipedia that demonstrate almost any editing style but are actually examples of how things should not be done. It is better to rely on the Manual of Style, articles with the prefix Wikipedia: that provide generally accepted standards such as WP:NOTDIRECTORY and WP:NOTDB, and discussions with more experienced editors. To use actual articles, see WP:GA. Adflatusstalk 15:02, 30 July 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for feedback. I read many of these guidelines when I first started but went through them again. Lots of material. I updated The Wildlands Conservancy talk page with plan (not sure it generated a message to you). BookOfDisquiet (talk) 05:46, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

@BookOfDisquiet: My intention for List of protected grasslands of North America was to list any protected areas that mentions that it includes a prairie biome. The columns can be sorted so one can easily see together all those in a particular state or managed by a certain organization. The article, California coastal prairie could certainly be improved but not by one more entry to the See also section. Better to provide some examples, maybe by just copying some content with citations from those individual articles and editing it a bit. Adflatusstalk 04:02, 31 July 2023 (UTC)

US city infoboxes

There's been a lot of discussion about infoboxes on US city articles. I had a discussion here, and I see you left a message here. Would you have a moment to look at the edits here? Thanks! Magnolia677 (talk) 10:51, 26 March 2023 (UTC)

Dealing with the crazy edits not in compliance with WP:USCITIES is frustrating because fairly experienced editors seem to be ignoring the guidelines. I tend to go after new editors who seem more responsive. After reading Administrative divisions of Wisconsin#Town, I have to decline to get involved in that one. I have way more topics I want to edit than I have time for. Correcting random edits and trying to stop campaigns to change settlement articles just in California is enough for me. Cheers, Fettlemap (talk) 15:11, 26 March 2023 (UTC)

Request for input on discussion at San Joaquin Valley

Hi @Magnolia677:,
Hope you are doing well. I see you've done a significant amount of editing on articles relating to Californian geography and places, including San Joaquin Valley's article. I wanted to invite you to comment on the ongoing discussion on the San Joaquin Valley talk page, which regards the outlook of the article as covering a purely geological feature or a human geographical region. There has been differencing opinions and a bit of an edit war. I'd like to as for your insight on a matter: as to whether you think it is misguided or not in framing the San Joaquin Valley article as more than a geographical feature but also as a region in human geography terms. It makes sense to me, but doesn't to the editor who reverted my edits, so I wondered if I could ask you for your thoughts on the subject. Best, Cristiano Tomás (talk) 00:51, 7 September 2023 (UTC)

Interesting Single Mention?

How is something like drug-use, non-notable. This isn't a person on the street claiming he has used coke. This was one of the 11 Board of Supervisors of San Francisco. Alexysun (talk) 00:41, 8 December 2023 (UTC)

One ancient mention by one supervisor. We could fill all politicians articles with fluff like that. Better to have substantial content than gossip from another politician. Wikipedia doesn't include every tidbit one can find in the press. Please see WP:BLP for further guidance. Please bring it up on article talk page if further discussion is warranted. This is not a personal issue between editors. Adflatusstalk 02:05, 8 December 2023 (UTC)

Even in the lesser definition from wiki, GPS is a system of satellite navigation. It has many components involving communication between satellite, receivers, ground stations. etc. It is a system with many models and components. Saying she formed the basis for it, is like confirming a common misconception where people confuse a part of an item for the entire thing. Meter v. metre

Just for what it's worth, the point of my edit summary was that the LA Memorial Coliseum article uses American English, in which the correct spelling is "meter." That's all I meant by it. 1995hoo (talk) 14:49, 6 February 2024 (UTC)

Thanks, I could have stated it better. "Corrections" are made by many novice editors so it should be clear that this is not an error but a national variety of English for those who don't know. Cheers, Adflatusstalk 14:57, 6 February 2024 (UTC)
I probably could have given a clearer edit summary, especially because I think it was probably just a situation where the person who inserted the template wasn't aware of the spelling parameter. I have to admit I know I sometimes may have an overly negative reaction to the use of British spellings in American English articles because of some experiences in the past that need not be rehashed (other than that the most absurd may have been the guy who said, "The British invented the language."). 1995hoo (talk) 20:39, 6 February 2024 (UTC)

I just started a draft article I thought you might be interested in. I was wondering if you thought it was worth creating. It seems odd to me than many other California counties have articles for their boards of supervisors but Ventura County doesn't. McYeee (talk) 21:51, 17 July 2024 (UTC)

Sorry but I'm not sure I have ever read about any counties' Board of Supervisors article. Articles with local office holders are seldom up to date. When the up-to-date content is on the county website, I don't see the point. Interesting content would probably fall under the History of the county rather than being specifically for just the Board of Supervisors. Any proposed article can't rely on just primary sources such as the county website. All the best, Adflatusstalk 02:55, 18 July 2024 (UTC)
That makes sense; I guess it's not really notable. Thank you for taking a look. McYeee (talk) 03:48, 18 July 2024 (UTC)

Lake Park

Greetings! I have removed once again a deadlink from the article that you reverted with my original edits. Furthermore, I have hyperlinked the lake referenced within the article to Rivers Lake. As noted in my edit summary, hyperlinking to another Wikipedia article doesn't further validate nor invalidate what you presume to be a Reddit hoax considering the verifiability and notability of the article in question. I have noticed your history with your edit summaries on Lake Park (California), including you being responsible for its creation. The edit summaries and your involvement in its creation lead me to suspect a pattern of behavior that indicates at worst a Conflict of Interest, or at minimum a POV Violation. As noted, I am happy to further discuss or proceed with mediation should you attempt to engage in an edit war. UnqstnableTruth (talk) 18:52, 20 July 2024 (UTC)

Unable to properly defend the Reddit hoax, you have resorted to silly ad hominem attacks against Wikipedia guidelines. I will not accuse you of being a sports fan that likes the idea of commemorating a sports figure. Undoing edits is not an edit war but an opportunity to discuss on the talk page of the article. You have made this personal by bringing it here rather than allowing editors to join in the proper forum before adding your edits back to the article. Adflatusstalk 19:13, 20 July 2024 (UTC)
Pointing out the factual evidence of your edit summaries in your edit history and pinpointing a pattern of behavior is not a personal attack, something in sharp contrast to the incendiary language you have just used in your response towards me. Let's discuss further in the talk page of the article and please refrain from reverting edits in bad faith. UnqstnableTruth (talk) 19:27, 20 July 2024 (UTC)
Please stop and read the linked Wikipedia guidelines above. I will wait till you have. I apologize for calling you a sports fan, it wasn't meant to offend but to lighten up. Adflatusstalk 19:34, 20 July 2024 (UTC)
This shall be the last of my responses here as you continue to resort to gaslighting. For the purpose of clarification, I will only lastly point out the irony of you citing policies which you have clearly failed to read for yourself, particularly our policies against personal attacks which state, "Note that it is not a personal attack to question an editor about their possible conflict of interest on a specific article or topic." UnqstnableTruth (talk) 19:55, 20 July 2024 (UTC)
