Old Courthouse, Coleraine
[edit]Hi - I am intrigued by all your changes to this article and also to the article on the Bishop Street Courthouse. Like most wikipedia editors, I just want to get the facts right. If the old Courthouse in Coleraine was not the meeting place of Londonderry County Council, do you know where they did meet? Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 22:48, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Dormskirk - that's a very good question and I must confess my ignorance. As you spotted I first came across this via the Bishop Street Courthouse article, where the references used to verify where the now abolished Londonderry County Council met struck me as odd. Instinct tells me that the original assertions in the article are correct (that some county council functions were held at the Bishop Street Courthouse but the main meeting place was the Old Courthouse, Coleraine), however a quick search hasn't aided me in supporting either. That's why I opted not to remove the statements - I hoped someone else with better knowledge than me could reach for their well-used copy of The History of Londonderry County Council and provide a different citation!
- Further to this, in the Old Courthouse, Coleraine article a reference used to support the statement that the county council moved to its new building in 1970 doesn't do that. It shows that the new building was completed in 1970 - it may have taken another year to move in!
- As a new editor I would welcome your thoughts on this - is this over-thinking and unhelpful nitpicking? Adam Kehrle (talk) 09:58, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks four your thoughtful response. I am also convinced that the County Council used the Old Courthouse, Coleraine and have found evidence but not conclusive evidence. Additional citations from the The History of Londonderry County Council would be really useful if anyone has a copy. Best wishes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dormskirk (talk • contribs) 10:07, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
