Your recent edit of Western Australia I owe you an explanation...

[edit]

Hi. You may have noticed that I reverted your recent edit of that article. Your edit was very clearly a 'good faith' edit. For that reason, even though I mentioned a couple of points in my edit summary, I thought I owed you a more comprehensive explanation for my revert. Here goes:

  • I didn't feel that it was necessary to include the reference to the Russian sub-national entity in the lead-in, even though you were quite correct. The article is about Western Australia, and the lead-in is not the place for specifying detail about comparisons with other entities
  • Specifying the actual land area, down to the kilometer, appeared to 'clutter' the lead-in. The approximate land area is covered in the next paragraph, and the info box has the actual figures.
  • You referred to Perth as the capital. Good point. For convenience, I undid your whole edit, but it was clearly an improvement to the lead-in for you to mention that Perth was the capital city. I'll go back to the article tomorrow and re-insert that part of your edit.
  • The reference to Perth as 'one of the most isolated cities in the world' is a valid point, and possibly true, depending on how one defines isolation. However, it has been discussed numerous times in the past (once on the current talk page and in much of the archives). Whenever that claim finds its way back into the article, it gets removed - usually because the article is about Western Australia - the state - not the capital city. Even in the Perth article, the claim doesn't appear because it is a difficult claim to support. (difficulties in precisely defining "isolation" ie in relation to other cities? other capitals? ; also - Honolulu is about 4000km from Los Angeles, which is way further than is Perth from Adelaide for example). Obviously your statement was technically correct because of the use of "one of the most...", yet "one of the most" is, in most instances, an unencyclopedic phrase.
  • You wikilinked Perth in a subsequent paragraph. Probably not necessary as the link had already been done earlier in the article. (Actually - looking at that sentence which has been in the article for quite a while - I think Perth needs to be replaced with Mundaring anyway, as the pipeline doesn't start at Perth anyway.

Regards, GlenDillon 16:26, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

thanks for your reply, and I just noticed something else - you correctly removed the second wikilink of Perth - I mistakenly assumed you had linked it. I need to take more care! Apologies to you. I'll fix my error. My final bullet point above is thus struck out, and redirected to myself. As for your offer to improve geographical aspects of the article - just go ahead and edit or else leave a comment on the article's talk page first if you prefer. Whatever. cheers.GlenDillon 10:01, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

I noticed you've been working on Malaysia-related topics.

Would you mind taking a look at Malaysia's branch of Wikipedia's Outline of knowledge?

If you feel like developing this outline and are not sure what to do, there's a set of instructions to get you started at user:The Transhumanist/Outline of knowledge#Country outline development.

Request for help

[edit]

I thought it might be a good idea to run a contest or two through the Countries WikiProject to attract editors to improve country coverage on Wikipedia, especially the country outlines.

I noticed you are a member of the WikiProject, and was wondering if you could help.

I've posted a message at Countries WikiProject talk page to get discussion started on what the awards programs should be and how they should be run.

Your ideas and feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

You are now a Reviewer

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 02:21, 18 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Meet-up: Editors from Malaysia

[edit]

Hello! You might or might not have seen me around here as I've not been active in Wikipedia the past few months. Before leaving for NS, it was my intention to form a Malaysian user group. I'm still very much interested in forming the group. However, before forming the group, I would love to organize a meet-up between editors of the Malaysian editing community to test the waters and hear what you guys might have to say. To my knowledge, there has not been a Wikipedia meet-up in this country before. I don't mind organizing the meet-up but need to know if anyone is interested in joining the meet-up. So... please reply and let me know if you would be interested in joining a meet-up and your ideas/thoughts about a user group. Thank you.

Replaceable non-free use File:Kamus Dewan.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Kamus Dewan.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file's talk page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
