Vine Meme's
[edit]With the creation of Vine [1], one of the social media giants that allow its users to upload several seconds of video or picture content, it broke the barrier between internet Meme and social media memes. This gave many users the platform to use Vine and similar social media to upload their own content of Memes. This brought popularity, money and fame to users such as King Bach, Amanda Cerny, and Welven Da Great, which Welven Da Great is most popular for his viral meme containing the phrase "Deez Nuts". Vine Meme's have gained a lot of attention in its few year of being active, even appearing on major news stations such as ABC. Vine Meme’s have taken over social media, especially with the rap culture such as Drake, every time he releases a music video, shortly after that there are already meme’s using content from his music video.[2]
History
[edit]Meme’s were originally only found in websites such as 4chan and Reddit in the early 2000's, before gaining popularity and quickly spreading. Then it began being used on social media giants such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram etc. The first internet memes contained an image, with a catchphrase which was only known to certain users of the subject, but due to its gaining popularity, there are hundreds of available memes, with even the access to users creating their own meme’s on certain websites.[3] These meme’s were only known to be a picture, a catch phrase, and meaning, most of which were comedic or entertaining. However, Vine gave its users the ability of taking that picture, and turning it into a video, vastly broadening the meme’s purpose and entertainment value.
