Your question regarding rollback

[edit]

Hello Acalamari. I too hope that you are feeling better. Thanks your for your message regarding rollback. While I am not as computer literate as many wikpedia editors as I read through the rollback instructions it looks fairly straight forward to me. Thus, I very much would like to try using it. Needing only two clicks to get it done sounds wonderful and I especially like the ability to check the users contributions because, when I find a vandalizing edit, I always check this page to see whether a serial vandal is at work. Two questions for the sake of clarity.

  1. When I use it does it automatically put a warning message on the vandals page?
  2. If I want to leave a longer message in the edit summary don't I just revert without using rollback?

I appreciate your trust in making this offer and I also understand that if I use it in error or misuse it that the priviledge can be taken away. Thanks for your time and cheers. MarnetteD | Talk 04:37, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

1. No, it does not automatically leave a vandalism warning: that has to be done manually. 2. If you want to leave a longer message in the edit summary, it's best to use the undo feature instead. In the meantime, I've granted you rollback. :) You may want to see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback as well. Good luck. Finally, thanks for the good wishes too. :) Acalamari 17:14, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback

I must admit, id never heard of rollback before, but I am interested in obtaining permission for use of the tool. Many thanks for the offer, and get well soon. Twenty Years 15:07, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RFA Question

[edit]

Hey, I saw your question at WJBscribe's talkpage after I made a small grammar fix, and I thought you should know that Acalamari reverted your vote. [2] Cheers, Icestorm815Talk 04:25, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know. I thought that would be the procedure, but wanted to clear it with the 'crat first. SilkTork *What's YOUR point? 10:05, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi SilkTork, I saw your messages on WJBscribe's talk page and I'm sorry I forgot to leave a courtesy note on your talk page explaining what I'd done. I am sure that Scarian appreciates your support though, even if it did come after the RfA had been closed. Acalamari 20:35, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Lack of courtesy message duly noted, stored away and revenge planned. I may use a tickling stick as part of the revenge. SilkTork *What's YOUR point? 21:55, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RFA

[edit]
Thanks for participating in my RFA, which closed successfully with 40 supports, 13 opposes, and 4 neutrals. For those of you who supported my RFA, I greatly appreciate it. For those who did not, I'm also thankful for your constructive criticism. If you need some advice or have some pointers for me, you know where to reach me! A special thank you to Majorly for all his time and effort he has placed in my nomination. Once again, thank you all for your helpful comments. Now off to new admin school! A belated thanks for the rollback grant. I don't forsee myself using it much, especially in articles I actively participate in editing, but I'm sure it'll definitely come in handy in vandalism-fighting someday. -/- Warren 06:16, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Answer

[edit]

Hi Acalamari. In response to your question, yes, I would! Thank you for the offer. Is there anything I need to do first? Pinkadelica (talk) 00:13, 23 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, normally you would have to go to Wikipedia:Requests for rollback or ask an administrator for it. However, neither of those need to be done because I am an administrator and I asked you if you wanted rollback. :) Rollback granted. Good luck. Acalamari 00:17, 23 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Problem on Location hypotheses of Atlantis page -- someone editing with a version of my name

[edit]

Someone came on today for the first time, adding stuff from an IP address that I edited, adding references, etc. and removing some of the hype. They didn't like that and undid it, then added to the articled 'references by Doug Weller', then did an edit under the name Dougwellera. What do I do to avoid an edit war and 3R problems, and about someone clearly trying to confuse things by logging on with only a slightly tweaked version of my name? Thanks, Doug--Dougweller (talk) 16:28, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Fergie discography

[edit]

Hi. I would like to ask you why you deleted this page. I'm pretty sure that there was no concencus to delete it, so I would like to find out what I did wrong as the creator of this page. Thank you. JayJ47 (talk) 04:23, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It was deleted due to a deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Fergie discography, and since the article was recreated, I deleted it under the speedy deletion criteria regarding the recreation of deleted material. I hope that helps. Acalamari 17:08, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of fan sites from Dominic Keating

[edit]

I'd noticed that you've removed the fansites from the links at the bottom of the Dominic Keating page. Why was this done? Is it not all right to link to fan sites on Wiki? If not, I'll make sure that stays clean. RoaringMice (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 16:36, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fansites are generally considered inappropriate external links, which is the only reason I removed them. Acalamari 17:09, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome! Glad it's been useful! Acalamari 02:35, 27 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I am speaking on behalf of JayJ47. He is concerned about the deletion of Fergie discography, and feels (as well as I) that even if Fergie only released one album, the article is still valuable and deserves to be on the pedia. I personally feel so because I feel that even if she only has one album, she will probably release more in the future. Also, it included information about her songs and videos, etc. which are not suited to be placed on the page Fergie (singer). At the very least, I would appreciate it if you recover the page and put it in either in my user space or that of JayJ47. Thank you for reading this. I know it's long! Cheers! Cuyler91093 (Contribs) 04:31, 27 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I hope there's no question in your mind that I trust your judgment as an administrator. You're one of the hardest working that I've seen. Help with Puma Swede article

[edit]

I asked J.delanoy about creating the Puma Swede article and was told to ask an administrator to create the article for me since it has creation protection. Can you create the page for me? —Preceding unsigned comment added by GoPuma (talkcontribs) 18:52, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As an administrator, I can create it through the protection, but it would not be appropriate for me to do so, as it has been deleted as the result of a deletion discussion (located here), and would qualify for deletion under the speedy deletion criteria regarding the recreation of deleted material. You'll have to take the article to deletion review first to discuss recreation. I hope this helps. Thanks. Acalamari 18:58, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Quick check of giving rollback

[edit]

Hi Acalamari – it's been a few days, but thanks for the shirt! Just wondered if you could quickly check that me adding rollback to User:Cahk was the right thing to do. I checked everywhere that I consider obvious and couldn't see a problem, but if I've made a bad call and missed something, please let me know (or revoke it quickly if need be). Thanks αlεxmullεr 21:01, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're very welcome for the shirt. :) After a review of Cahk I don't think there was a problem with the granting: but if you have any doubts, I recommend giving a link to Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature to Cahk, and explain that rollback is for vandalism-reversion. Remember, however, that rollback is even less of a bit deal than adminship is, and it can be removed very easily. I hope this helps. Good luck! Acalamari 21:04, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's good, thanks for the reassurance – I'd hate for my first time giving rights to be to somebody who might go crazy with it, and just needed to check :) αlεxmullεr 21:55, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pussycat Dolls

[edit]

Hi there, Journalist here. I'm a bit bothered by an edit you made earlier today. Today as an anon, I sourced the claim that Carmit Bachar was leaving the PCD, only to have it reverted with the terse explanation that it was "just speculation" [4]. On what grounds do your assumptions rest? The site is a news website— abc Action News— and not a blog. Even if the report was from perez hilton.com, its still worth looking into.

I'm not here to preach to you, and I assume that you acted in good faith. But in the future, please be less hasty. Wikipedia doesn't necessarily succeed when people simply revert poor sources. It's far more productive to take two seconds of your time and do a quick google search to confirm the claim and introduce a more authoritative source yourself. Thanks and happy editing. Orane (talk) 04:57, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about that, it's just recently, a blogger started a rumor about Carmit Bachar leaving the band, and there had been nothing but speculation and crystal-ballism into her leaving (and also vandalism). I might have misread the source, but it didn't seem to say anything other than what the blogger said. My apologies. Acalamari 16:29, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your reply, and thanks for notifying me. I don't usually go to the other's talk page to view responses.
Also, my apologies if I seemed rude or fussy. I understand what you were trying to do. Orane (talk) 14:16, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that User:VoABot seems to not have made its regular clean-up of WP:RFPP for a while. RFPP seems to have a lot of requests that should be moved down to the fullfilled requests by VoABot, but it has been over 3 hours since it has edited RFPP. WOuld you be able to look into that?149.169.159.251 (talk) 21:34, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
VoABot might be down, or slow for whatever reason. The best thing to do would be to ask Voice of All if there is anything the matter. For the moment, however, Steel359 has answered your request by archiving the page. I don't know how bots are programmed, so I'm not the best person to ask about the way bots are run! VoABot sometimes does this, and I'm sure Voice of All will get it fixed soon, but it may be worth asking him about this anyway. Acalamari 21:39, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, yes. :) Isn't it nice to be welcomed twice in one day? :) You seem like a good editor; you should get an account, though, of course, there is nothing wrong with editing from an IP. :) The bot is working again, thanks for the posting. Acalamari 23:33, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, though I already have an account here :-) I just used the Wikibreak enforcer to give me a wikibreak til wednesday cuz i needed to study for exams, but Wikipedia came calling and I couldnt resist :-) and it is interesting to experience editing as an IP. Its kinda weird lol.149.169.143.239 (talk) 23:39, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, good luck with your exams then. :) It must have been weird to be welcomed twice as well! :) Thanks for the participation at RFPP, too. :) Acalamari 23:42, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Haha yeah it was weird being welcomed twice, both by you! lol, and np, I have worked a lot at RFPP and I like to see things go smoothly there. Cheers!149.169.143.239 (talk) 23:46, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
See you around then! :) Acalamari 23:48, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Jeez these IP addresses switch around like crazy, lol.149.169.143.185 (talk) 23:57, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
They seem to! Your third welcome today then? :) Acalamari 23:58, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hahaha lol, I guess thats what happens when you edit at a university!149.169.143.185 (talk) 00:05, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think you've set a record: you're an established editor who just got welcomed to Wikipedia three times in one day. :) Acalamari 00:08, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And you set the record for welcoming an established editor three times in one day lol.149.169.143.185 (talk) 00:12, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My RfA

[edit]
File:David,larry.JPG My RFA
Thank you muchly for your support in my recent request for adminship, which was successfully closed on 76%, finishing at 73 supports, 23 opposes and 1 neutral. The supports were wonderful, and I will keep in mind the points made in the useful opposes and try to suppress the Larry David in me! Now I'm off to issue some cool down blocks, just to get my money's worth!

Kidding btw. All the best, Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 11:42, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, thanks for the T-shirt. Started working through those links. Started by issuing multiple-blocks to that tendentious, revert-warring POV-pushing, law-suit issuing, sock-puppeteering, vandalizing miscreant, User:ThisIsaTest. Had to unblock him though! All the best, Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 11:17, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ah yes, ThisIsaTest: that user has been blocked many times. :) Acalamari 17:13, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok just wanted to let you know. lol Arnon Chaffin (Talk) 17:04, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your swift help. Cheers Geologyguy (talk) 17:06, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. :) I saw Phaedriel's talk page show up in my watchlist. I noticed the IP had done a load of vandalizing. Blocked for 2 months now. Acalamari 17:08, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Smiles.

[edit]

What's this? Acalamari spamming talk pages? It must be The EndTM. · AndonicO Hail! 18:10, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Heh, not spam. :) Just giving some (bizarre) smiles to a few people. :) How do you like your elephant? Acalamari 18:12, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
My elephant would be fine, were he not in musth, and were the population of elephants not tripled already... · AndonicO Hail! 18:19, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ah yes, the tripling elephant populations. :) Acalamari 18:20, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the grapefruit...

for rollback!--Finalnight (talk) 02:47, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. :) Just remember it's for vandalism reversion. You may also want to see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. Good luck. Acalamari 02:49, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Question

[edit]

Yes, please, it looks like having rollback rights might come in handy from time to time. Thanks, Hqb (talk) 21:52, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback granted. :) Just remember it's for vandalism/blatant spam-reversions, and not for use in content disputes or to revert good-faith edits. For additional information and practice, you may wish to see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback. Good luck. Acalamari 21:55, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, that was quick, thanks! I'll try to use it wisely. Hqb (talk) 21:57, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. :) Acalamari 21:59, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What do to about an article about an author added by the author?

[edit]

I don't know how common this is, but I've run across one that I'm suspicious about and one where at least the author is honest enough to admit he wrote the article (the first edit summary says "There was no page for this author in a pre-existing reference so added here by the author himself". The article in question where the author admits writing it is Paul Dunbavin. I think some of the content would be unacceptable no matter who wrote it, but I'm uneasy about the whole thing. Where should I ask about this? Thanks.--Doug Weller (talk) 15:00, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think the noticeboard for conflict of interest would have been an appropriate place to report it, but the person who created the article hasn't edited it since November 2006. Another user, judging by the edit summary, plans to do some work on it, so I think in this case, attempting to improve the article might be a good idea instead. It's been tagged anyway. Acalamari 16:31, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks very much.--Doug Weller (talk) 16:54, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. Acalamari 16:52, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My RfB

[edit]

I wanted to personally thank you, Acalamari, both for your support in my recent RfB, and for the admin T-shirt, which I need in a size XL, unfortunately :( I did move it to my userpage in my collection of thoughtful gifts :) . I am thankful and appreciative that you feel that I am worthy of the trust the community requires of its bureaucrats, and I hope to continue to behave in a way that maintains your trust in me and my actions. I have heard the community's voice that they require more of a presence at RfA's of prospective bureaucrats, and I will do my best over the near future to demonstrate such a presence and allow the community to see my philosophy and practices in action. I hope I can continue to count on your support when I decide to once again undergo an RfB. If you have any suggestions, comments, or constructive criticisms, please let me know via talkpage or e-mail. Thank you again. -- Avi (talk) 15:46, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry, I plan to support next time you run! I hope we can see you again at RfB in a few months time. Acalamari 16:32, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Protecting my talk page

[edit]

Thanks for letting me know. This isn't the first time it's happened. I may unprotect it myself, but I'll probably let it run out its course. J Milburn (talk) 17:21, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think it would be best to let it finish in this case: you seem to have picked up a fan base there! Acalamari 17:24, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
