A pair of protection requests
[edit]Also, Adirondackman continues to sock, and it may be time for archive 32. :) Enigmamsg 20:01, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
- Both are semi-protected; good job on spotting new Adirondackman socks; and yes, I'd better archive my talk page soon. :) Acalamari 20:41, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks. One more: Detroit_Red_Wings off of two semi-protections this month. The NHL playoffs end in a few weeks, so perhaps it could be protected until the end of June? Thanks, Enigmamsg 05:15, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
- Done until July 1st. Acalamari 16:10, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

Question
[edit]Dear Acalamari,
would you mind explaining me how this and this was “bugging”? If you do have any concerns about me or my editing, I'd appreciate if you let me know them directly so that we can truly work on them. I feel confident that this would achieve much more than complaining off-wiki. Regards, — Aitias // discussion 21:49, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
- I think it would just be best if you kept away from MZMcBride altogether. Majorly talk 21:52, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
- What Majorly said: I don't understand why you thought it was necessary to comment, in light of past history between you and MZMcBride. As for me, I did try to talk to you about concerns prior to your RFAR being filed, and I gave you advice, but unfortunately, little came of it. Acalamari 22:12, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
ThankSpam
[edit]Thank you for participating in my "RecFA", which passed with a final tally of 153/39/22. There were issues raised regarding my adminship that I intend to cogitate upon, but I am grateful for the very many supportive comments I received and for the efforts of certain editors (Ceoil, Noroton and Lar especially) in responding to some issues. I wish to note how humbled I was when I read Buster7's support comment, although a fair majority gave me great pleasure. I would also note those whose opposes or neutral were based in process concerns and who otherwise commented kindly in regard to my record. ~~~~~ |
Absent user
[edit]Acalamari, I note that you are one of the editors (as am I) who continue to watch Phaedriel's page. Do you know of any way, other than via wiki, to contact her? She has, as you doubtless know, been absent for some 18 months, and I really need to talk to her. It's a personal matter. --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 19:32, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
- You could try using the "E-mail this user" feature, but I don't know if she will respond or not: no one has heard from Phaedriel since she went inactive, and as far as I know, no E-mails have been responded to. Acalamari 19:38, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
- No, I've tried e-mailing (of course). I even tried e-mailing Oklahome City Police department, where she works (or worked) but they failed to reply. --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 19:44, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
- Hmm, sadly, I don't know of any other way to contact her. I only used E-mail and talk pages. Acalamari 20:25, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
- No, OK. As you will recall, I had a serious personal disaster a little over 2 years ago (OK now) and she had serious personal problems at about the same time. We helped each other a lot, but she suddenly vanished. Such is life. --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 20:32, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

Was this done using Rollback?
[edit]I don't know how you tell if an edit was reverted using rollback, but if this edit [1] was done via rollback it's time for rollback to be taken away from him. He also needs to learn to use edit summaries. Dougweller (talk) 19:57, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, that looks like rollback, and an inappopriate use of it too. In fact, only the other day, KoshVorlon rolled back an edit of mine and slapped a template on my talk page, which I removed. Acalamari 20:03, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
- What's the best way to take this up? I can't remove it from him as I'm involved, ANI? Dougweller (talk) 20:50, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
- AN/I is indeed where rollback can be discussed if an admin is involved and needs more opinions. Acalamari 21:16, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
- I raised it there. We aren't the only ones it's happening to. As I'm involved (someone's commented about him on my talk page before I realised he was using rollback), and also off to bed now, I've asked for another Admin to help. By the way, I think it was you who gave me rollback originally last year. Thanks. Dougweller (talk) 21:35, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
- We'll see what the opinions there are then. As for your own rollback, yes, it was me who granted it to you (April 2008!), and I'm glad you became an admin since then. Acalamari 21:39, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

Nimbley6
[edit]Damn, that was quick! I'm sure you're aware, but in case you're not, Nimbley6 is now community banned. Hopefully it should make life easier reverting and blocking, and otherwise trying to ignore, the sock.

- Kelly Clarkson is a page I've had on my watchlist and have contributed to for a long time, and I was surprised to see Nimbley6 show up on her article. Yep, I saw the ban discussion yesterday, though by the time I noticed it it had already closed. Thanks. Acalamari 16:19, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
- I think it's "any excuse to fiddle with pictures", to be honest. And Nimbley6's tastes seem to be expanding to encompass a wider range of musical acts than just Scotland - possibly the sock thinks it'll escape notice? Oh well, glad you were on the ball! - Yeah, I noticed those. I tend to check at least once a day for Nimbley6 socks, though I don't need to when something like "Undid revision # by This flag once was red" shows up in my watchlist. ;) Acalamari 16:35, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

- You're very welcome, and I knew you'd like them. ;) Here's an interesting fact about them; I actually found out by accident that they're nice even when they're old; once we had a packet of them that were open for well over a year, and despite that they were as hard as rocks when we ate them, they were still very nice. You're welcome for the returning gift, it's good that you are coming back. Acalamari 23:41, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
- Yikes - over a year old? Were they hard, or just more chewy? Kafka Liz (talk) 23:46, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, they were hard all right, with the exception of the center, which was chewy. They had to be sucked in order to eat them. If we'd bitten them, we'd have broken our teeth. :\ Acalamari 23:49, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

User:Pokista02
[edit]- Pokista02 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)
Hey there Acalamari, can you take a look at User:Pokista02? This user continually adds improper images and unsourced content into Michelle Williams (singer). Generally, this user's edits are disruptive, even if they are doing it in good faith. — Σxplicit 15:28, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
- Hi Explicit, I actually encountered this user the other day when they went and re-added things I removed from the Michelle Williams article, and they never gave any explanation for their reverts. A look at their talk page shows that they've had countless warnings, and even a block. Unfortunately, based on past experience with users like this (they are common in pop culture articles, but you probably know that already), I find it unlikely that they'll change their behavior: I know that's assuming bad faith, but I've yet to see a user with that many warnings stop what they're doing (all since May 17th!). However, while I agree with you that their edits are disruptive, with my involvement on the Michelle Williams article, I'd say me blocking Pokista02 would probably be an inappropriate block (I've edited that article, and reverted Pokista02 at least once), so I think AN/I may be a better place if you think the user should be blocked. Thanks. Acalamari 16:10, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
I'll start a new discussion at WP:ANI right away. Thanks. — Σxplicit 16:20, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
User permissions
[edit]I've had this userpage watchlisted for a little while, and I see now that you granted rollback. I don't object but suggest we keep a careful eye; something about a fixation with updating edit counts combined with rollback makes me just a little wary. It's probably nothing, but just thought I'd drop you a note (and I'm watching too). Frank | talk 17:19, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
- I don't really consider it a major deal, as I once had a great love for edit counts too, but I agree it's probably something to watch over, just in case. That being said, if the user uses rollback to boost their edit count but uses it correctly, I think we should be okay. ;) Thanks for letting me know. Acalamari 17:24, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, it's the correctly I'm a little concerned about. Since I wrote the message above, I dug a little; I don't know that this merited an only warning. (Preceded by a welcome message, too.) Still not requesting any positive action; let's just be watchful. Frank | talk 17:27, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
- I just reviewed the revert: that edit would depend on regional knowledge: in some areas, "wank" is slang for masturbation, so the interpretation of the only warning would vary depending on where someone comes from. When I gave the user rollback, I mentioned that misuse/abuse of the tool can lead to its removal. Acalamari 17:33, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
- It's cool; I've probably said more than enough. Thanks for listening. Frank | talk 17:35, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
- No worries: you had a concern and brought it to my attention. In the end, we all benefit. Thanks again. Acalamari 18:01, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

OK, on another note...aside from (apparently) here, do you know of a place where wank means something else? ;-)
- I'd never heard of that mountain until now! However, since it's in Germany, I think Germans pronounce their "w"'s as "v"'s (funnily enough, I was explaining that to someone yesterday, too), so it would probably be said as vank over there. The "wank" I was referring to is this one. :D Acalamari 21:20, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Fawcett
[edit]Please take a look at Farrah Fawcett and remove that stuff about "Ferrah" and a later change in spelling. It's rubbish and was removed (and the sources checked) a while back. Her mother made up the name; there are no WP:RS to support otherwise. - Hi there; I'm not so sure if I should make that edit: it was me who added the semi-protection to the article after all, and I've avoided making any major content changes to Farrah Fawcett because of that. I'm also not familiar on anything to do with her birth name. However, there is this discussion about her name, which was recently started. Thanks. Acalamari 02:02, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

Mount Whitney
[edit]I noticed that you edited Mount Whitney and removed spacing in the infobox. While there is no consensus to support or suppress the practice, it is common in mountain related articles to use spacing before a reference in the infobox. Most of the time when a reference occurs in the text of an article the reference follows punctuation and looks clean but in the infoboxes, because there is not punctuation and there are often a number of references, thing can start to look crowded. I hope you will not object if I restore the spacing. I'll wait to see if you object strongly before I edit the article. Thanks for your work. --droll [chat] 00:22, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
- I normally remove unnecessary spaces from articles to tidy things up, but yes, sometimes the spaces actually improve the article. However, you won't need to restore the spacings: I've done it myself, though I left an unspacing further down the article that I made, as I think that one is okay. Thanks for letting me know. [edit]Well, I did a full edit summary and a comment on the talk page, rather than, say, just rolling back. Funnily enough, One reason I took this approach was that I was concerned not to seem overzealous in pursing individual Americans for good faith spelling "corrections". My apologies jimfbleak (talk) 05:40, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, I see now that you did leave a note on the talk page of the article, and no, I do not believe that you came across as "overzealous" either way: you were only making sure the encyclopedia is consistent, so I thank you for that. Best. Acalamari 18:37, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
Rollback request
[edit]could you please grant me permission to use the Rollback feature. Jimmy Skitz's Answer Machine 21:14, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
- Hi there, I have granted your account rollback rights in accordance with your request. Your use of Twinkle seems to be okay, and I hope your rollback usage will be equally as good. Remember that rollback is for reverting vandalism, and like Twinkle, it can be removed if it's misused (misuse defined as using it to revert-war or to revert edits you disagree with)...sometimes without warning. Good luck and thanks. Acalamari 22:44, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
Happy adminship anniversary!
[edit]- Thank you for the gift. It's hard to believe it's been two years...I remember it like it was yesterday. Thanks again. Acalamari 19:33, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
Re, Three years
[edit]Hello Acalamari. Thank you for remembering this date. Myself, I had completely forgotten. :-P These were 3 good years, I learned a lot in this place and made some good wiki-friends. I have been wiki-bonked lately, frustrated by some recent events at Wikipedia, and of course tired of the continuous dilapidation of the human spirit of Wikipedia. Ever since the end of Esperanza, being on Wikipedia is like being in the office with no right to coffee breaks. It's gotten really boring, but I hope it's temporary. I'll be back to my previous level of activity some day. And I hope you're still around then. :-) Best regards, Húsönd 14:03, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
Apteva
[edit]Hi. I noticed that you recently gave rollback rights to Apteva. I have to admit that this user's multiple accounts concern me, see User talk:Delphi234#Usage of multiple accounts, and recent indications are that he has no intentions of changing his ways [2]. Johnfos (talk) 04:14, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
- I was aware of the event from October 2008, but I'll admit the May diff is more concerning. That being said, rollback rights won't help anyone if they want to use socks (ip-block exempt would be something I'd recommend not granting in this case), and they'll be removed if abused. Thanks for letting me know. Acalamari 15:09, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

- Thanks for letting me know. I'll admit though, while I the third-highest contributor to that article, my edits have been formatting, rather than content-addition, but if I can help further, I shall do so. Thanks! Acalamari 21:01, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
Happy Bastille Day!
[edit]Dear fellow Wikipedian, on behalf of the Kindness campaign, I just want to wish you a Happy Bastille Day, whether you are French, Republican or not! :) Happy Editing! Sincerely, --A NobodyMy talk 20:51, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
- A Happy Bastille Day to you too, A Nobody! I've never been wished that before, so it's a pleasant (and surprising) first. ;) Thanks for thinking of me. Acalamari 21:01, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
Another Rude Admin
[edit]Hi. I was wondering if you could ask ohnojamie (another admin) to stop being so rude... I just started editing wikipedia and added some links that he thought were spam. When I asked him about it he accused me of being a SPA (i guess for editing a lot of schools.. even though I started with the schools that I personally attended). Also of having conflict of interest, spamming, and gave me a 'final' but actually the first warning for 'disruptive editing' which I was absolutely not doing. I started adding to school sites with government statistics, but found a better external site for information and started linking to those. And, that site had hospital pages also so I linked to those too. I explained that they were relevant, added value, whatever etc but he wouldn't "discuss it further". Again, new to wikipedia (likely not going to keep editing thanks to this really unpleasant experience...) but isn't this assuming bad faith? Not to mention just being plain rude (i.e. "do we really have to go into SPA? quote ohnojamie). Like I said.. i'm not going to edit wikipedia again. But please, take a look at this admin. He's been rude to other users too. http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User_talk:Ohnoitsjamie that's the link to his usertalk page. my "conversations" with him are under the LA Statistics section.--Jesssicar (talk) 17:51, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
- Hi Jesssicar, I've left a note there requesting Ohnoitsjamie to respond to your questions. I'm sorry if you've felt any hostility here. Acalamari 18:18, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
He still isn't answering my questions =( but thanks anyways =). --Jesssicar (talk) 18:37, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
Thank You

A little monitoring assistance, please
[edit]I'm still overwhelmed with personal issues right now. A user asked me to look at a discussion on Talk:Canna (plant), an argument about an image. I've removed a few personal comments, asked another user (Curtis Clark) to settle the issue about which image to use, thanked User:Muhammad Mahdi Karim for not being a jerk, and asked User talk:Giantsshoulders to stop being a jerk (calling others "idiot" and "moron") and stay away from the article until Curtis or Hesperian has the time to look at the image question.
Could you, or one of your network of talk page spies, simply make sure that User:Giantsshoulders does not continue to use that talk page to call other users morons. Curtis is actively editing right now, and he will ask someone else if he cannot get around to settling the picture matter, but I could use help until someone figures out which picture to use in monitoring User:Giantsshoulders' manners. It can be simply dewatched after the picture image deal is settled and Giantsshoulders has bad manners episodes but can usually be reasoned with to cool down, so I don't expect anything interesting to come of this.
Thanks for whoever can help with this.
Hope all is well with you, Acalamari. --KP Botany (talk) 22:19, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
- Added to my watchlist. I'm okay for the most part, KP Botany, thank you for asking. ;) I hope the personal issues you mention aren't too bad, and will sort themselves out soon. Best. Acalamari 22:26, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks. I'll be back. I shall return, etc., i tak dalej. --KP Botany (talk) 22:49, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

GA reassessment of Natasha Bedingfield
[edit]I have conducted a reassessment of the above article as part of the GA Sweeps process. I have found a large number of concerns with the referencing which you can see at Talk:Natasha Bedingfield/GA1. I have de-listed the article which can be renominated at WP:GAN when these are fixed.. Thanks. Jezhotwells (talk) 20:23, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
- Hi Jezhotwells, thanks for letting me know about Natasha Bedingfield being de-listed from GA status, but I never actually brought the article to GA in the first place. I'm aware I have a high edit count to that page, but none of those edits were actually adding content.
- Note I'm not annoyed here, it's just that I've had three GA-related notifications this last week, when I don't believe I've had any before, despite being here for over 2 1/2 years! :D Thanks. Acalamari 20:32, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
- NO worries, I just contact the top contributors not counting bots or edits marked as minor. It is a bit scattergun, but usually lets some of the right people know. Jezhotwells (talk) 20:34, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

Editting help
[edit]im not extremely experienced at editting wikipedia right now. but i editted this section of a certain video game. do u think its ok? or does it appear to be vandalism because im afraid someone will revert it.
heres the link : http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Call_of_Duty_5#Downloadable_content
the part i added is this (towards the bottom of the Downloadable content section):
On July 20, 2009, Treyarch announced that there would be a third map pack for World at War. This map pack will also consist of 3 multiplayer maps along with the usual nazi zombie map. The three multiplayer maps are Battery, which is when you are on an armored island surrounded by anti ship mines, Breach, which is set in the overcrowded streets of Berlin, Germany. And the 3rd multiplayer map is called Revolution which is based on an industrialized city in Russia. The new zombie map will be called "Der Riese" (german) which translates to "The Giant" in english. It will be based in some type of factory environment in which you must fend off the zombies.
i cited my source on the page. does this follow all of wikipedia's guidelines and what not? also....to post an image it says i need to have a license....i tried saving a picture from google images but i guess those dont come with licenses? how do i upload an image and get around the licensing problem? --Mark0528 (talk) 20:23, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
- I didn't see anything wrong with it when I read it, but I'm not familiar with the topic at hand. If you get reverted, it won't be reverted as vandalism: see Wikipedia:Vandalism; under no circumstances is your edit vandalism. Should you be reverted, I'd suggest talking to whoever reverts you, though I am glad to see you posted to the talk page about your edits. Thanks. Acalamari 20:31, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
thank you. but what about how to upload an image? how would i acquire a license for that if i got the image from...google images for example?--Mark0528 (talk) 23:12, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
- Google images are copyrighted, and I think they come from other websites themselves, so I would not recommend uploading any. Any image from Google uploaded to Wikipedia would likely be deleted, as would most other images from websites. You may wish to see WP:IMAGE, Wikipedia:Image use policy, and Wikipedia:Non-free content. Thanks. Acalamari 23:18, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
alright i read the "WP Image" page and also the "wikipedia image use policy" page. they dont tell me HOW to get a license though. they only explain what it is and what it does. i want to kno how to acquire one. do you know from personal experience? --Mark0528 (talk) 23:41, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
- No, I don't know how, for I've rarely uploaded images (the last one was over two years ago), and rarely deal with image issues. I would suggest asking either J Milburn or MBisanz about obtaining image licenses, as both of them, in my experience, know a lot about images. Thanks. Acalamari 23:48, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
ok. thank you. --Mark0528 (talk) 20:53, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

GA reassessment of Kelly Clarkson
[edit]I have conducted a reassessment of the above article as part of the GA Sweeps process. I have found a large number of concerns with the article which you can see at Talk:Kelly Clarkson/GA1. I have delisted the article as it will need a lot of work to bring it to GA status. Thanks. Jezhotwells (talk) 20:19, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for the note, and thanks for your work with this too: I'd forgotten the page was even a GA! :\ Acalamari 20:22, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
This article has been protected since March...i think it desrves to be unprotected for a while, im sure there wont be unsourced editing and vandalism like before...cause now the album has been released and all the info is there aready....so i was wondering if u can unprotect it....SOSOLAME (talk) 21:22, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not so sure: if you look at the page log, it's been protected several times, and I suspect that, if unprotected, it will be protected again shortly. However, if you still think it should be unprotected, I kindly suggest you file a request at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection#Current requests for unprotection; remember to mention in your request that I suggested you file a request there, otherwise you'll just be told to go and ask me again, and that won't be of any help to you. Let me know if you need any help. Thanks. Acalamari 21:30, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
